We were looking for somewhere for a Saturday evening meal while staying at Hatfield House and found the Golden Elephant. So glad we did. The food was excellent, service swift, efficient and friendly and everything reasonably priced. Many of the others customers were obviously regulars which is always a good sign. If you don't know the area it's a bit hard to find as the satnav takes you up the side street to the back gate which you can't get through. It's off the High Street, opposite St Helen's Church but DON'T go up Granary Close, go up the drive next to the white house with black paint about 20 feet away and this will take you into the private car park. It's a pity we don't live closer as it's well worth a visit.

ordered a takeaway set menu this evening. Turned up quick enough and was warm enough too.the duck was so dry and shrivelled i could use it to bang in roofing nails. The rice was greasy and tasted terrible.The spring rolls were manageable and the prawn toast stamp sized pieces were ok.i ate the chicken in blackbean sauce and it wasnt great.chicken and mushrooms looked like it had just been served in a school canteen and tasted as such.i stopped eating it and put it in thd bin £32 down the drain.

Have used this takeaway for about 15 years, never had a problem, until last night. Phoned in an order, collected fine, dished up chicken chow mein, noodles rock hard, gave them a call, could they bring another one over, no problem they said. Thought we'd start on the rest, special fried rice was cold, had enough by now, so went over to get my money back, not once did the lady behind the counter say sorry for the inconvenience, I wasn't offered anything else, no nothing. Now I know we all have off days, I that I can accept, but what I can't accept is that no-one said sorry. So for their rudeness we will not be back.

We have been coming toHoy Che regularly for 10 years. Weve never had a bad meal here! The Chinese food is always perfect and the fish and chips is beautiful and extremely fresh. Literally cooked in front of your eyes! Best Chinese and Fish & Chips in Welwyn (and we've tried them all)

We miss the excellent restaurant, but the food from the new take-away at The Great Wall is just as good as ever, and Shirley is still a wonderful lady. We have always loved the spare ribs.

With two friends and pre-booked visited for the first time for perhaps ten years. Decoration is a little drab but the service was friendly and whilst busy dishes were delivered in a timely manner. Typical Chinese selection of dishes for a la carte menu though my wife and I had the Set Menu no 2, good value at £29.90 each. Everything well presented and cooked and delicious though in no way outstanding but with drinks and a tip good value at some £35 each. Toilets on the same level, including a disabled and un-restricted parking right outside.
