It had a population of 31,573 in 2011. The town lies in the far north-east of the county, bordering Norfolk and only 5 miles (8 km) south of Lincolnshire. The tidal River Nene running through the town centre is spanned by two bridges. In 2011, Wisbech was the second largest town in Cambridgeshire, after Cambridge. Before the Local Government Act 1972 came into force in 1974 Wisbech was a municipal borough.

The pub is under new management, lovely couple who run the pub, and very friendly.The food is lovely home cooked food with fresh veg or lovely salad to go with the fish pie.Not expensive, two main meals with two & half pints of beer £23.90. Dogs welcome.Food is served all day. Will go back again soon.Thank you for the review we will look forward to seeing you again soon. K

Just had an amazing Sunday roast at the five bells. Snowing and cold outside, inside was a blazing fire and great hospitality. Cannot praise food eough. All freshly cooked, not frozen and heated through also very reasonably priced with more than enough to fill even the biggest eater. Bar service was great, greeted cheerfully and couldn't be more helpful. Highly recommend for both food and ambience

The black bear is a traditional pub with a good sized restaurant. The pub is a nice friendly place, well run, clean and with a a good atmosphere. The restaurant is clean tidy and can cater for most needs. The food is wholesome, fresh and clean. A good selection means something to fit most tastes. There are also "specials" so watch for those. Friendly service helps to make the dining experience a nice event. Sundays we believe is a carvery. If you are in the area this is worth a visit as a one off or a special visit.

We have been to the woodmans on two consecutive sundays with different family members. On both occasions everyone has agreed that the food and the service has been excellent. Sufficient meat and a wide selection of vegetables to suit all tastes. My advice to the restaurant, donât change what you are doing and customers be surprised at the quality and cost. Very good meal at a reasonable cost.

Visited at lunchtime. There was a varied selection of meals available. Food was excellent I had an excellent steak cooked to perfection for me. It was obvious from our meal that the people that run the Rising Sun care about their customers and know how to cook food very well. Will be returning again. The Elgoods beer was pretty good too.

Stopped for a quick lunch (starters only) on a Saturday en route to North Norfolk.The place was almost empty which should have been a worry. Nicely decorated, we were shown to a table in the restaurant of 20+ tables, but there was just one other couple dining.We had fish cakes and grilled prawns and decided they were both almost tasteless. We couldn't decide if it was lack of seasoning or poor quality ingredients but they were certainly not of a good quality. To add salt to the kitchen's wounds, our neighbours in the dining room both had steaks. One looked steak like and the other (same cut) was very thick and under done. It was sent back and another provided with many apologies.Whilst finishing our drinks in the bar a couple booked in for a room they had booked online. There was much discussion over whether or not breakfast was included it the rate. Guests said it was but the receptoinist disagreed. It would be resolved later in the day by talking to the Elm Tree's owner.It just seemed that everything was conspiring against the place that day and that it was nearly empty.We won't be returning but perhaps we were unlucky.

Just popped in the Red lion this lunchtime for a quick lunch and was certainly not disappointed, good quick friendly service, my horseradish beef was superb, being a good size portion and very reasonably priced, so if you fancy a traditional pub lunch in a traditional old pub that has admirably avoided going along the route of turning the pub into a gastro style overpriced clinical dining room this is the place to go, well worth a visit.

Dropped in for a drink and found ourselves having a meal as well. We have been visiting The Lamb and Flag on & off since the mid 1980's, whey before TripAdvisor was even considered. The atmosphere and ambience is great, the decor purely local and attributed to the Fens, you wouldn't expect anything else! There are two dinning rooms, with plenty of choice on the menu. Tonight I had the Gammon, washed down with a pint of Elgoods ale, absolutely excellent. The staff are terrific, friendly, warm and welcoming. Harry B is very happy to recommend The Lamb and Flag in Welney, although I took a chance for a table, be sure to book to avoid disappointment. Enjoy!
