Wisbech (/ˈwɪzbiːtʃ/ WIZ-beech) is a market town, inland port and civil parish in the Fens of Cambridgeshire, England. It had a population of 31,573 in 2011. The town lies in the far north-east of the county, bordering Norfolk and only 5 miles (8 km) south of Lincolnshire. The tidal River Nene running through the town centre is spanned by two bridges. In 2011, Wisbech was the second largest town in Cambridgeshire, after Cambridge. Before the Local Government Act 1972 came into force in 1974 Wisbech was a municipal borough.

Visited at lunchtime. There was a varied selection of meals available. Food was excellent I had an excellent steak cooked to perfection for me. It was obvious from our meal that the people that run the Rising Sun care about their customers and know how to cook food very well. Will be returning again. The Elgoods beer was pretty good too.

We called into the Elme Hall restaurant for lunch one week day, the restaurant was empty but it did not put us off. I chose soup as a starter and my husband white bait, my main was fish and chips and my husband had the meat pie. The starters were nice, then the mains arrived, the meat pie was actually quite nice with seasonal veg. The fish and chips was a surprise, the chips were stacked like building bricks but were only partially cooked not edible. However, the fish was the greatest surprise...it was a frozen fish portion covered in breadcrumbs which had not been oven cooked or deep fat fried, only put in a microwave so the inner was too tough to eat and the outer was uncooked and anemic, only the pies were edible. Then to add insult to injury the waitress tried to over charge us for the uncooked meal! Such a pity as the place seemed nice and convenient for meals, alas we won't be back.Thank you for your feedback, we're so sorry you found your Fish & Chips "inedible" and are disappointed that the issue was not brought to our attention at the time, particularly as our waiting staff did ask if everything was satisfactory with your meal.Our fish is delivered to us fresh each day, but is of course put straight into our refridgerators to keep it as fresh as possible. The fillets are deep fried per order in our own light flour batter (not breadcrumbs) in our kitchen - it's impossible to cook freshly battered fish in a microwave as you suggest.Glad you enjoyed the Steak and Ale Pie though, which is homemade by our chefs and is on of our most popular dishes.As for the mistake with overcharging this was quickly resolved when you went to pay your bill.

Went for a late breakfast and wasn't disappointed. Loved the old fashioned greasy spoons and this is a modern version with no grease in sight thankfully. The food is cooked to order so is hot and what you expect. The cafe is clean and bright with table service.. Loved the bright red cups and mugs.

Went in a couple of weeks ago for a cake, coffee and sandwich on a sunday afternoon.Personality of the owners makes the place what it is! Wonderful man ensuring we had a lovely seat under the apple tree in the orchard, cake was wonderful, and sandwiches delicious.Would definitely go back another day to enjoy the sunshine, friendly dogs that walk around, and a lovely coffee and cake!

Stopped for a quick lunch (starters only) on a Saturday en route to North Norfolk.The place was almost empty which should have been a worry. Nicely decorated, we were shown to a table in the restaurant of 20+ tables, but there was just one other couple dining.We had fish cakes and grilled prawns and decided they were both almost tasteless. We couldn't decide if it was lack of seasoning or poor quality ingredients but they were certainly not of a good quality. To add salt to the kitchen's wounds, our neighbours in the dining room both had steaks. One looked steak like and the other (same cut) was very thick and under done. It was sent back and another provided with many apologies.Whilst finishing our drinks in the bar a couple booked in for a room they had booked online. There was much discussion over whether or not breakfast was included it the rate. Guests said it was but the receptoinist disagreed. It would be resolved later in the day by talking to the Elm Tree's owner.It just seemed that everything was conspiring against the place that day and that it was nearly empty.We won't be returning but perhaps we were unlucky.

Just popped in the Red lion this lunchtime for a quick lunch and was certainly not disappointed, good quick friendly service, my horseradish beef was superb, being a good size portion and very reasonably priced, so if you fancy a traditional pub lunch in a traditional old pub that has admirably avoided going along the route of turning the pub into a gastro style overpriced clinical dining room this is the place to go, well worth a visit.

Went for a meal with my son for his birthday. Very very good. We had the scallops and chicken skewers for starters then steak and salmon for main course, everything was well presented and hot. Excellent service. Although a Friday evening the restaurant was rather quite, wonder if not enough advertising? A little more expensive than I would normally pay for a meal out but worth every penny. Apparently Sunday lunch is very good so off to try that next.

Dropped in for a drink and found ourselves having a meal as well. We have been visiting The Lamb and Flag on & off since the mid 1980's, whey before TripAdvisor was even considered. The atmosphere and ambience is great, the decor purely local and attributed to the Fens, you wouldn't expect anything else! There are two dinning rooms, with plenty of choice on the menu. Tonight I had the Gammon, washed down with a pint of Elgoods ale, absolutely excellent. The staff are terrific, friendly, warm and welcoming. Harry B is very happy to recommend The Lamb and Flag in Welney, although I took a chance for a table, be sure to book to avoid disappointment. Enjoy!
