It was great to revisit the Dovecote & find that it remains everything an English country pub should be, with bunches of hops hanging from the ceiling & barrels of real ale behind the bar. Also, it was refreshing to find no obtrusive televisions, loud music & gaming machines. We were there for Sunday lunch & the lambs-shank with all the trimmings was superb. Service was generally friendly & efficient & my Canadian friend wasn't too put out at the refusal to accept her £50 note. The pub has lots of parking & a pleasant garden, which was well populated during our visit.Thank you for your kind words! We are so glad that you had a good time with us. One of the reasons we took over the Dovecote was to ensure that it continues to be everything an English country pub should be. Sorry about the £50 note, but we have had a few problems in the past. Hope to see you again soon!

Anyone reading my reviews would imagine that I spend my time complaining about bar staff, but when one is confronted by a grim-looking female who actually rolled her eyes at one point, I feel aggrieved enough to mention it. Despite the cold introduction, the pub’s garden is lovely with a beautiful view and the tranquil ambiance on a sunny day is great. I will return here and sample their food and see if the customer/staff interaction is better. Maybe the lady in question was having a bad day, but honestly, her expression would have stunned a statue!

As frequent visitors to Brunning & Price pubs in the north-west we like to visit their pubs in otherparts of the country and the Hare has all the hallmarks of their style of decor. Very surprised to find a "destination" place of this size appears to have no car park, not one we could find anyway, apart from a few spaces on the front so we ended up parking on the lane at the side - probably doesn't make it very popular with the neighbours even though it attracts the "civilised" B&P clientele. Good range of beers, tasters provided to help you choose. Food up to the usual standard, we sat in the conservatory overlooking the village green, very pleasant.

Popped in here on our way up from Eastbourne back to London. Was suprised to get seated so quickly as it was very busy with live music in the garden. Received a warm welcome from the lady serving the carvery which looked tasty but she advised we wait 5 minutes while they put fresh food out. Was so full from the delicious roast that we couldn't manage a desert that comes with it. The waitress insisted we pick something to take home with us. Can't recommend this place enough.

Kids ordered baby pizzas but got full sized which was a bonus! Proper pizza with thick, hand-pulled dough. It is very popular looking around the inn but there are plenty of other options if that's not your thing. The chicken and mushroom pie i had was delicious. The white wine sauce was a little runny and the chicken was the tiniest bit dry but otherwise full marks.

Whilst out getting some air after working nights, I happened across The Guinea a colleague of mine had mentioned months ago about his friends taking it over so I popped in for a little food and a drink.Walking in it was very quiet but staff were friendly and I ordered a drink Titanic Brewery stout, as no Guinness but was thank full for the suggestion as it was a very smooth pint. The menu was short and sweet, enough choices to cover everyone's tastes, but not that many that you have to think and think about what you want.I decided upon the Brisket and burnt ends, which had a home made potato salad and home made cornbread muffin. The brisket was very very yummy, (smoked on the premises as well) it fell apart as you are it and was smothered in a rich spicy (a little too spicy for me) BBQ sauce. The potato salad was good as it softened the spice of the BBQ sauce but the potatoes could have been cooked just a few min more (and checked for bad ones as I had one which was a little black) but was lovely and fresh. Now the corn bread, I can still taste. (Can't remember what the butter was they out on top, but the flavours were amazing) the bread was crispy and soft inside and really did finish the dish. Not normally a dessert kind of person but fancied some icecream of a light dish.Ordered the cheesecake but unfortunately they didn't have any ready, so went for sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream. It was amazing, warm sticky and full of flavour.Whilst sitting there it did get busier with family's and singles alike. I didn't go into the garden but from what I saw it looked welcoming and tidy.Staff were great from drink recommendation to info on food, a real gem of a place and will definitely return (the staff member mentioned a sharing platter of Brisket and pulled pork, which sounds devine )

My husband live near this pub. We like wandering down there past the beautiful rocks and having a pint in the garden. The food is perfectly nice. Affordable. Friendly staff. The beer garden is not accessible for wheelchair users or buggies really. I wouldn’t bring my grandma or young kids there. Thanks for your review Lucy.Although the garden may not be accessible ( due to the fact we are situated in a natural rock formation area and the whole pub is built on a tier system) we have wheelchair access to the side of the pub and from there on in an easy accessible patio area, we are well equipped with a large disabled loo also. We are glad you enjoy our food and find it well priced- Thankyou for visitingNick, Shell and Team Toad
