Very poor service & bad attitude of the owner

Reviewed By prabhath_s73

We were brought to the hotel in a very poor-conditioned bolero jeep. The seats were very dirty and all our baggage and clothes were wetted due to water leaking from the vehicle roof. Even the sides of the vehicle were not covered to protect from rain. The owner asked us to use candles for lighting and there was not even a generator to use for power failures. Under this bad hospitality, we had to come back home.☹☹

What a Great Adventure!

Reviewed By bioprof

This was the last place for viewing wildlife on our trip. Staying here was a wonderful adventure and we have amazing memories (and pictures!) The trip up the mountain to this location was certainly arduous and I did wish they had told us that our touring vehicle (not a 4-wheel drive) was not appropriate to go up the mountain. I really didn’t think we would make it. And indeed, our guide was sent back down the hill with our vehicle and after our 2 night stay, we were ultimately delivered to the bottom using a vehicle belonging to the ecolodage as our vehicle wasn’t made for the steep terrain or slippery & bumpy rocky roads. But it all worked out OK. The wildlife viewing here was superb. From the jay that perched on our patio railing to the hike to the waterfall to the night walk, it was all great. We got to see a loris deep in the foliage at night (actually just saw its eyes shining back at us), and it was neat to know that they reside in these forests. The walk to the waterfall had lots of wildlife to be seen, and the fish nibbling on our toes was very ticklish and more than my feet could handle. But it was certainly fun. And we saw lots of great wildlife along the way and our guide was superb. The accommodations were nice, and certainly unusual. The food was good, but the service at mealtime pratheretty spotty. But we came for the wildlife viewing, not for fine dining, and we can certainly accommodate anything. BTW, you need these "leech socks" to prevent getting leeches attached. They provide these green leech socks, which you put over your own socks, and then put your shoes on over them. They work well. I walked for 2 minutes just as we were leaving, taking a few last pictures, and got a leech (and bled for the entire trip down the hill). What a fun "last' memory. My own fault. ;)

Surprising all our expectations

360 degrees rainforest was our favorite place of our whole Sri Lanka trip. It's hard to put in words how fulfilled, relaxed and touched we felt after our stay. Make sure to stay for several nights to get the vibe of the place.. Kaushan the manager, greeted us with such hospitality, kindness and goodheartedness that we felt at home immediately. The staff was more than helpful and accommodating, greeting us with a smile. We fell in love with the place immediately. The cabine‘s are clean, cozy and quiet. The breakfast was delicious and plenty. The vegetable curry was the best one we've ever had in Sri Lanka. The only minus was that we couldn't stay longer :) We can only recommend staying here and would return immediately when visiting Sinhajara.

An authentic experience to remember

We stayed a long time ago in 2003 with Pali and did the excellent rainforest tour. We had some truly memorable experiences in the area including a few monastery visits and a wonderful rainforest day trek. Pali was a wealth of knowledge back then and it is inspiring to see him still at work. The accomodation and food was like staying with warm friends. Pali made such an impression on us that we almost named our son born a year later after him! We hope to return one day.

Great place inside Sinharaja

Reviewed By Vachintha

Wonderful place tucked inside the lush, green highlands of Sinharaja rainforest. It's located just about 100 meters from the forest entrance and the resort consists of 4 chalets with private balconies overlooking Sinharaja. Their chalets are equipped with basic facilities including hot water, decent beds and air conditioning. They also have non A/C chalets but other options are the same. In terms of food, they don't have a massive menu. It's either Sri Lankan, or basic Chinese dishes such as fried rice, deviled dishes, etc. Nevertheless their food is absolutely delicious and there's nothing to complain about. Portion sizes are more than enough and filling. The resort is done by a local family and their service and hospitality is commendable. They made us feel like home during our stay. Guests can also arrange nature trails and hikes which the resort staff will facilitate. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway by a forest, this is definitely the place to visit.

Small b and b located next to the river. Simple rooms with fan and hot water, clean. Beautiful to wake up in the forest...we were lucky to see monkeys first thing in the morning. Great location to get to some wonderful treks in Sinharaja. Please note the road has been improved so that you can get here in a mini van as we did. Only 3 or 4 rooms so it's quiet and personal. You can order lunch and dinner from the restaurant as well. We would definitely recommend it.

A peaceful haven - a bit of paradise!

Reviewed By Surafernando

We stayed here from 25-27 March 2022. From the point of booking to our leaving in this bit of paradise, we were very well looked after by its owners Janith and his wife Manisha. Nothing was too much trouble and their main aim is to please and to make the guests as comfortable as possible. On arrival, we were greeted with a very refreshing homemade drink of lime and herbs. The first thing that struck us (myself and my daughter) was the quietness of the surroundings with only the sound of chirping birds. There were stone seats placed in strategic places where one could sit and look out into the forest and listen to the sound of water from the waterfall, meditate or read a book. We had the room with the glass walls and lying on the bed, we felt we were in the middle of the forest and you slept to the sound of the waterfall which is visible from the room and you woke up to the same sound. Such heavenly bliss after the noise and dust of Colombo!! At night the forest was magical with the little tinker bells (fire flies) lighting up. The room was very clean, but you have to expect little insects coming into the room and this is all part of being in the middle of the forest!! The Resort is a small one of just 3 rooms and has been constructed very sensitively to blend in with the environment. The food - we always opted for the Sri Lankan dishes (being Sri Lankan) and they will tone down the heat if you ask!! Most of the vegetables are grown organically on the premises and are delicious. Manisha does the cooking and is helped by Janith's uncle and they will try and accommodate your choices if at all possible. We also took a 3-hour trek with a local guide Dilan who was very respectful and helpful as there are many rocks to climb and at nearly 77 years of age, I did need a bit of help from my daughter and Dilan. He will explain and point out various herbs and medicinal plants that are used for all sorts of ailments. He is very passionate about preserving the forest and is also quite knowledgeable. You do get leeches, but Manisha will provide you with a pair of very innovative leech-proof socks!!! There had been no rain so although there were leeches, not as many as there could have been. People with mobility issues should be aware that there are a lot of stone steps to climb down to the main area and then of course back up again. However, Janith will help you. My husband who came to drop us has mobility issues and he managed quite well with Janith's help. We came to Deniyaya from the side of Galle and the road has many bends!! But what joy when you eventually get there and the two days we spent at the Kurulu Ella was the absolute highlight of our stay in Sri Lanka. The evenings and mornings are cool, so go prepared with a light cardigan, wrap, or jacket. We took many pictures but I am not technically skilled enough to put them here and my daughter has returned to her home in Devon, so she can't help me!! Such warm hospitality is experienced only in Sri Lanka!! I can recommend this place without reservation.
