What a slice of paradise in Colonia

What a fool I was. I only booked two nights here. Yes, we had other places in Uruguay and Buenos Aires we wanted to explore during this trip. But what we didn't realize is that Los Limoneros would be such a delight. It's a confluence of so many extraordinary elements that make a stay memorable. One is the staff, led by owners Mario and Sergio. Sergio's fantastic cooking and gracious hospitality, Mario's intellectual depth and knowledge of the area, the Monet-ready garden (complete with lily ponds), the lemon groves, the lovely pool, the proximity to a gorgeous historic town and beach... wow. I want to stay there for a month, at least. Two nights! My wife and I were just starting to get into the Limoneros vibe when we had to leave. Shame on me.

Highly recommend for location and value for money

This is a lovely hotel that feels like an upscale hostel. The location is excellent- right in the heart of historic Colonia and an easy walk to all tourist attractions, restaurants, and the ferry. The staff was very helpful and gracious and the breakfast buffet was excellent. We needed a triple room for my sons and I, and they have a spacious room with 3 singles that fit the bill. I highly recommend this hotel, which is an excellent value for the money.

Rooms small and dates, basic breakfast

The rooms are very small and very dated. The bathroom looks better because it has nice tiles. The breakfast has basic options, basic quality. The girl from the reception was very nice. It is ok for 1 maximum 2 days, otherwise you can feel like staying at a retirement home.

Great place to stay

Rooms are very basic, WiFi wasn't good, but we absolutely loved it here. Very quaint and beautiful country setting. Owners were very friendly, (English was limited). You would need a car. It's about 10km from Colonia del Sacramento, which we also loved. It's positioned on a good road so exploring in a car is easy from this place. Continental breakfast was good. Has got a small pool and kids play area and has good outside seating area. We would recommend this lovely peaceful place to anyone.

Room for improvement

Reviewed By Qldgirl1

Stayed here for a night in November 2013 whilst travelling around Uruguay for 2 weeks. This accommodation appears to be in a quiet location but the road outside is quite busy with trucks and noisy bikes. Our room was up a set of extremely steep steps so we were glad we did not bring our heavy suitcases inside the building. This access is not suitable for those who are mobility impaired. The double bedroom is of a good size. There was an air con. No fridge or television. There was some storage for clothes. Bathroom was a decent size with toilet, bidet and a shower that worked well. There is a dining room and I was advised that evening meals were served from 9 pm - 11.30 pm. This was a bit late for us so we walked down the street to the Granja Suisse Hotel (that we had stayed at on a previous visit to Uruguay) for dinner in their restaurant (open 8pm). Breakfast was included in the price of 1700 pesos and was nothing out of the ordinary. Simple continental. The outside grounds of Posad Ofelia were undtidy and it seemed like a lot more could have been done to spruce up the place. The yard and pool were not very inviting. There was some oniste parking at least. Two things that were not very impressive: The white coverlet on the bed appeared to have a fresh blood stain on it and other stains (e.g. a large grass stain). The shutters and windows (no screens) were all open on arrival and as a consequence there were mosquitos in the room. I would not stay here again.

Highly recommended restaurant by locals but only average service and food

Reviewed By Teramo48

Four of us stopped here for a late lunch. The building/restaurant is attractively decorated in a Swiss manner. Service was OK but slowish, not that I'm expecting the American kind which I abhor. We started out with a nice cheese fondu--haven't had this in ages! Everyone else in our party got a large hunk of meat for their lunch and seemed to be happy with their selections--beef and pork. Unfortunately I was not too hungry and got Swiss gnocchi (really spaetzle) with tomato sauce. The spaetzle was good but I should have ordered it with butter and cheese; the tomato sauce tasted like Campbell's tomato soup. The wine was good.
