Rude Staff and Room Smelled

Reviewed By gdunn0926

The room smelled terrible. The front door to the hostal doesn't work properly. Upon exiting one morning while trying to open the door, I was yelled at by a staff member very rudely and loudly. It was unacceptable to speak to a guest that way. The housekeepers start very early and are incredibly loud. I would not stay here again.

Its a must stay

This is a quirky place but how often do you get to stay in a Palafito on stilts with a top class restaurant above you. Don't expect luxury but don't expect hostel either, its a boutique hotel with bundles of charm. We really enjoyed it and from what we saw was a great choice for a few days on the island. We loved the views and great sitting outside just watching what was going on. They could have made more of the outside but suspect that was a compromise as a number of bedrooms overlook it. The rooms are like a ski chalet and rustic, bed was brilliants. YOU MUST go the restaurant on the top floor which separately owned. It is run by an experienced Santiago chef and his wife who has set this up using his experience of top hotels with his personal twist. They couldn't have been more friendly. The food was different and excellent as was the wine, if it was a restaurant in London we would definitely go back. I don't normally eat fish but their special Ceviche tempted me and I am glad I tried it. Enjoy

Stayed here for two nights in a twin private with bunk bed. Our room was in the back building which comes with an own kitchen which was just like the main one quite well equipped. The room was fine apart from the window which couldn't be closed normally and would let the cold air in from outside. The bunk beds are wider than the avg. beds we had so far. The shared bathrooms were rather dirty and NOT cleaned daily. There was the same trash lying in one of the showers for two nights. Another review from March already mentioned this for the same bathroom to which the management replied that they will improve tge situation which is obviously not true. The common area is nice and there's also a bar downstairs. The location is excellent. You can pay with credit card but they surcharge you a 4% fee compared to when paying in cash. They justify it with that as a foreigner you don't need to pay tax (19%) but that has nothing to do with their 4% surcharge! Not sure if that's even allowed in Chile...

Mapatagonia Hostel

MAPATAGONIA is a hostel in an old colonial house of Puerto Varas, built by a German settler about 100 years ago. Gigantic, high ceilings, all wooden, and heated by a fireplace, MARGOUYA PATAGONIA, takes you back to the colonial past of southern Chile as soon as you step inside.

Friendly, multi-lingual staff

I stayed at Mapatagonia multiple times as I traversed around Chile. Storing my non-essentials for each segment of the trip was easy and lightened the load of what I carried. I stayed in different parts of the hostel during my various stays and each was clean and warm. On multiple days the staff even baked something to share with the guests which was an unexpected treat. I am very glad that I booked at Mapatagonia!

A calm and cozy hostel, exactly what I needed

Reviewed By MartinGg1994

I wish I could stay for more nights in this hostel, it was the perfect mixture of social and calm. The people working here where very nice, they helped me with every question and problem I had. The dorm was nice, kitchen was fine, bathroom and shared areas where good. They even had a hammock. Breakfast was included in my room and one morning they they even packed me a lunch since I had to go early in the morning before breakfast started. I don't know what could be better in this price range.

Amazing stay !

We stayed at Chili Kiwi for 10 days and really felt at home. The hostel is perfectly located (right in front of the lake, in the city center). It has great outdoor spots (notably a terrasse in a tree facing the lake - perfect for sunsets). Clean areas, well equipped kitchens. The personal is super nice! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone, and hope we can come back ! Thanks again for this amazing stay

La Joya Hostel

Good hostel but loud at nights

Reviewed By Heidinner

We were mainly happy about our visit, the staff is super friendly, the decor is pretty cool, and the rooms are ok. The breakfast was nice too. Kitchen is a bit tiny for the amount of people, but serves the job so we were happy with that too. However some very basic things could be improved, We were staying in a room with stairs where the beds were located upstairs of the room, close to the roof. Although the hostel states that there is silent time after 11pm or so, both nights there was very loud music and sounds of drunken people coming from the roof and even hallways. I understand it's a hostel but I think the personnel should be able to make people stick with the common rules to make sleeping possible for other customers.
