Le Peche Gourmand

Reviewed By Greenlightsal - Surbiton, United Kingdom

The only reason I have given this three stars is because as (mostly) vegetarians, we struggled to find enough on the menu. What was most disappointing was that when our friends visited a few weeks previously, the chef had told them that with 48 hours notice they would be happy to provide a veggie menu. But when our friend booked for our visit, and tried to ask about this, received the answer "non". We went anyway, as it was a special occasion and we do occasionally eat fish when there isn't any other choice. It's an odd ambience - rather sparse, but the service was nice. The food was delicious, as you would expect. The wine service was rather slow. So, we had a lovely night, but would we go there again? Probably not.

An excellent restaurant in the old town part of Briancon. The lovely atmosphere of the main street of the old town continues when entering the restaurant. Friendly staff, sometimes the dishes are served by the chef personally. The food was gorgeous, I can highly recommend this place to everybody whether on a business or a family dinner.

We visited the beautiful medieval village of Briancon after spending a whole day skiing in Montgenevre. We found Le Valentin restaurant while walking along the narrow roads of Briancon and we do not regret stopping there for dinner. The place looked like a traditional local townhouse, very welcoming with a warm fireplace inside. The staff were really helpful and friendly, and the food was just perfect with reasonable portions. I will definitely recommend the place!

L'Etage

Very lovely restaurant along the Main Street, both the small Delors and the inside are quite pleasant and the food is mountain style and delicious, with typical dishes from the area. We had raclette with plenty of charcuterie and tartiflette. For dessert a huge cup of strawberries and ice-cream which I shared with my son and my husband had a crepe with Nutella he much appreciated. The service is fast and very kind, the price appropriate for the food (huge portions). Worth trying.

You must go there if you are coming through Briancon. I have never seen such a well decorated restaurant. My daughter loved playing in the "School section" and we had amazing food. Everything was delicious, and the owners very friendly. We highly recommend it. We ate there twice, my favorite dish (which is their specialty) is Fondue aux Morilles.

I would have liked to rate this restaurant as good rather than average, but felt it didn't quite fit into the very good bracket, so average it has to be.
The staff are friendly and the food it good, but the restaurant, I feel, is a little pretentious and seems to think it is better than it is. Perhaps it is resting on it's laurels too much?
My husband chose the Medieval menu and enjoyed the pate starter, followed by the slices of leg of lamb in the "golden sauce": more akin to curry sauce, such a shame to spoil the delicate flavour of the lamb, but enjoyable none-the-less. This was finally followed by the apple tart with genepi ice cream. I, not feeling so hungry, chose to have tartiflette des alpages which came with a very small helping of salad. All very nice, but not as good as at L'Etage which is the restaurant opposite Le Gavroche.
If you fancy somewhere chichi go here, but if not there are plenty of other places to dine in the old town.

Essentially this Restaurant has a a pretty traditional Savoyard Menu that is interspersed with Nepalese/Indian cuisine however each has been subtly influenced by the other. I'm not usually a great fan of fusion food however the quality and attention to detail of the dishes really one me over. The Service is both friendly and efficient.

Very good Italian pastries. The very best Panettone! Coffee, cappucccino, hot chocolate, awesome.
The other day we bought chocolates and they were good. I usually get panettone and everyone loves them, very fresh, not too sweet, very tasty!
I recommend a stop there either for coffee or for a delicious pastry.
