Everytime me and my partner head south of Aberdeen whether we're going to Edinburgh or Glasgow we make a (not so small) detour here for food because we know it's worth the trip
You can't book a table here but you just walk in and if there's not a free table then you wait in a cosy room by the fireplace and can have a drink whilst you wait
The steaks are incredible, although flame grilled isn't always my first choice it's always cooked perfectly and we always go for a blue cheese sauce and a pepper sauce which compliments the flame grilled flavour perfectly. You always get way more chips than you need and even though they are delicious you will be too stuffed from your steak
Don't even get me started on the waffles.. they are out of this world. Sometimes I think the waffles alone are worth the 2 hour trip from Aberdeen. Even if you think you're not a waffle person you will be blown away by how scrumptious these waffles are! Must try
Service is always excellent, all staff are friendly and accommodating which is another reason we keep going back
Overall if you are looking for a delicious meal away from the city at a price that's not extortionate then Champany Inn is a must try. We've yet to try the restaurant part next door but I'm certain it is fantastic

It is difficult not to compare this place with what it was under the previous ownership, when a five-star rating would have been a gimme. Yes, the place is still historical and clean, and the service was friendly enough. But the food is the issue and was very average on my visit, luke warm meat in a steak pie, with a pastry base which took some sawing! The portion sizes have shrunk too! There are few visitors in Linlithgow in February, however no locals were dining, not one other table was in use at 12.45 Friday lunchtime. You can draw your own conclusions here!

Not having been here for quite some time I was looking forward to some good pub grub.
Unfortunately the pork in cider gravy and the lamb in red wine gravy were both reminiscent of boil in the bag. Uniform slices and tasteless sauce.
Maybe we made poor choices but the veg was also very like something you could buy in a bag from Tesco.
Shame as I really liked it as a place to go for a good meal.

Firstly I just cannot understand the reviews where people complain about the decor and the chargrilled nature of the steaks.
This is an authentic, old fashioned chop house. Don’t bother going if you have expectations of a modern, uncluttered spacious setting. Also as the name suggests it’s a chop house. Veggies, don’t bother going. Trust me, it’s not for you!
The steaks are fantastic, always cooked to perfection over flakes which makes them extra tasty. The side salad is exactly that, a side salad. The chips are to die for. Proper chips cooked in beef dripping. I always order a side of blue cheese sauce with my steak. I’ve enjoyed many a burger here too. Juicy, large and cooked to your specifications.
The wine is always excellent.
My only criticism is that you can’t book. Sometimes you can turn up and get a table but I’ve had to wait a good hour on occasion. Totally worth it though.
Always fantastic food, a nice welcome and cosy surroundings.

The burgh hall was closed so we went in here instead for coffee and a homemade scone. Not a lot of room inside but tables well laid out so not too close to one another.
Coffee was good and scone was not as well risen as most scones as I could only just manage to cut it through the middle to spread my butter but very nice. Very reasonable prices.
Staff friendly.

Bit of a last minute decision to go down with family for a Sunday evening meal but the place was packed and glad we had booked. The variety of food on the menu is excellent and the food itself was very good and beautifully cooked. Plenty to go round our small group. Service was to be expected and could not be faulted.

Park Bistro

We ate here after I had driven by this beautiful, picturesque location and building but sadly that’s where the positives end
We arrived at 7pm and were greeted and seated quickly, the building is beautiful, but for an evening meal it was lit up like a football stadium, all the lights were on and not dimmed, no candles for intimacy on the tables and all in just a bit too cold in atmosphere.
The waitress took our drinks order and served us quickly, a second waitress came and took our food order (the cod and the Turkey from the Christmas menu) she asked if I wanted cranberry sauce, I replied yes
Our starters came out and were as starters should be, then our main courses arrived, again asked by the same waitress if I wanted cranberry sauce, if the place was busy I could forgive the lack of memory, but either way I got the sauce
My roast Turkey crown dinner was so devoid of gravy that I had to send an expedition to find it, the little slither of gravy that was on my plate was being separated by the flash flood and my entire plate of food was swimming in boiled water
My butter that they coat the vegetables in was sat on top of the water like a diesel spill
The veg was over cooked which is fine for me but not for the other dinning companion, the Turkey was tasteless and bland, and because of the water my food had no real taste to it at all
The fruit on the desert had been frozen and defrosted and perhaps fresh fruit or none at all is a better choice or perhaps fresh seasonal fruits instead
We did get a small discount off the bill but sadly we will never be back to this venue
So much potential but a shame it clearly can’t or won’t live up to its first impressions

Biscuit Cafe

Biscuit Cafe is a small cafe serving amazing coffee, teas, soup, sandwiches and other hot and cold food. The cafe is bright and spacious yet cosy with a beautiful garden where you can also sit and enjoy our food during the summer. The ideal place for lunch after visiting the beautiful medieval village of Culross.

Popped in for some light refreshment after walking around Culross. Quite a 'nooky' cafe, looks small, but seats a few people in three separate areas. Service can be slow (you can't order from the counter area) as you wait at your table, especially when there are a number of people there and it is busy. Teas and coffees were nice and cakes tasty. Prices on the 'tourist' level.

Corbie Inn

The Corbie Inn pub/restaurant was refurbished and re-opened in October 2011. It is situated close to the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway line. In the summer you will be able to waive to the passing trains on their way to and from Birkhill Clay Mine from the beer garden. The objective and vision has always been to offer the best of real ales and cask beers from local, regional and national Breweries at value-for-money prices. Beers are available in pint, 1/2 pint and 1/3 pint measures so you can taste & try and enjoy a selection from the 6 ales on tap. The pub also offers a family-friendly atmosphere where children are welcome and can be served meals until 9pm when accompanied by an adult. A children's menu is available but children are welcome to choose and can be served half-portion meals of their choice from the main menu. Booking for meals is not a requirement but is sometimes advisable especially at weekends and if a set time is preferred.

Booked ahead as family going to the Santa train at Boness and Kinneil railway, pre-ordered food as time would be tight. Staff on telephone couldn't have been more helpful and understood our timetable! Arrived just before opening, large funeral party arriving at adjacent function room! However staff opened bar a few minutes early as it was freezing outside. I have to compliment staff again, food and drink delivered in good time, despite how busy they must have been. Food piping hot, generous portions and very good. This was a great start to our Santa experience just along the road. Must try and go when the micro brewery is open. To be recommended.
