Nice hotel, but bad receptionist
Reviewed By 309tatatWe have visited this nice hotel several times over the past years, since before it was renamed from Sonesta, and it was always a nice, great and welcoming stay. Unfortunately there seems to be a new receptionist named Collette, or similar, who did not show the usually experienced welcoming and kindness when we came back last week, i.e. basically she seems to be missing basic social skills when treating guests, e.g. there seems to be a new rule, that all guests have to present their IDs, which is not common in Chile, and although she was asked why, she replied more or less in a nearly angry and nerved tone, that these are the rules, and when we pointed out that in none of our previous stays, this was requested, she said that it was a new rule, so we asked that she please speaks with the person, that we spoke previously for reservation to check on that item, so she called and did not get response, but later during the checkin she stated simply, that that person said it is like she exposed, without really having checked it. For example in Chile it is not mandatory to have IDs for children, so although the change could be reasonable, it creates complications for some guests, and if a receptionist does not transmit the necessary empathy and politeness, you are basically shadowing the most important part of the welcome experience, of a apart from that great hotel with great breakfast, extremely friendly and willing other supporting staff, e.g. in the spa an pool area, or the maintenance guy who fixed the sauna, the bar man, service staff during the breakfast. Basically, it is weird to be literally confronted by someone who is not representing the spirit and culture of the hotel at the reception, and to us it looked like as if this person is just like that, and even some trainings would not help her improve her soft skills, so we would recommend the managenent to assign her tasks, that are not related to guest/custumer contact: There are ways to handle situations without showing or expressing a cold and unwelcoming atmosphere, you know we felt as if this receptionist had personal issies in handling guests with questions and doubts.

Reviewed By adamrM4735MYI was surprised to read the recent negative reviews of the Mercure Concepcion. We are well-experienced travelers who stay in the full range of hotels from low to very high. It's a four star hotel. It s well-priced and centrally located. We paid about $75 a night for two nights here. The big surprise was that numerous staff, female and male were sporting small rainbow flag pins. Very welcoming! Many of the staff are fluent in English. The food at the complimentary breakfast was delicious and fresh in a pleasant setting. It was the best of the hotel breakfasts we had on our trip. A true test of a place is when things don't go right. The bathroom sink was clogged. When we reported it, a maintenance staff member arrived within 10 minutes. Done! The downside: It is located next to the highway and a railway. Another plus: near the local Unimarc, about 3 blocks away. Also near two car rental agencies: Mitte and Chilean Rental Car.

Reviewed By SivasankarD1The service was really Bad during the stay. Hand several issues during the stay, they almost lost all clothes which was given for Laundry. I have been contacting the hotel for several times now and no response so far. Definitely a hotel to avoid.

Good but still some refining needed
Reviewed By Clare JWe enjoyed staying here, a 1 night stopover on the way to Santiago, and world stay again if in the area. Room great, clean, good air con, good shower and a nice touch with a free welcome drink. Breakfast adequate and nice big car park. Points we felt a bit let down on were, a mess up with our keycard which they said they corrected but the new card wouldn’t work in the lift repeatedly and we were unnecessarily being asked to use the staff lift and then still notable to enter our room meaning we had to go back to reception etc - no real apology. We would have forgiven, these things happen, but then when requesting milk for our tea/coffee (machine in room) we were told we had to pay, and also we couldn’t take it upstairs ourselves, we had to wait for it to be delivered. This seemed inefficient and penny pinching. Breakfast service also a bit clunky with having to point at buffet rather than helping ourselves or ordering from table. Queues built up. Covid is reason but staff put their hands all over glasses, cutlery and food they served anyway ….

Horrible - ibis corporate: close down the hotel!
Reviewed By nicklausiThis place is unacceptable! I stayed there with a Brazilian and a British business partner. We all shared the same opinion about the place. They advertise low rates outside and charge you 95$ inside. The interior is like a hostel with deteriorated furniture. The entrance is dirty and the breakfast is worse than a truck stop (i think most truck stops have better food) I hope the hotel is being marked as a location being avoided. The staff is not helpful and only speaks limited english at the front desk. It is a rip off.

Reviewed By 786lestermAlways a first class hotel for Exspress staff are very friendly the hotel is incredibly quiet the Exspress food is prepared by a hotel ideal for a quick dinner, beds and rooms are very clean and sleep fantastically. It’s location is great 5 Resturant’s all within 10 min walking distance. Opposite is a mall also walking distance, staff speaking English, we stay many times at this hotel, being a platinum elite member.

Fine but unmemorable
Reviewed By ValHI spent three nights at this hotel which is around 10 minutes walk from the main square in Concepcion and also close to the park. The room was spacious, with two king-sized beds. It was also very quiet with no internal or external noise (apart from a noisy AC system in the room). There was a safe in the room and a mini-bar although no ironing or drink-making facilities. The wifi was fast and reliable. A buffet breakfast was included. All in all, it was a perfectly comfortable stay but fairly unmemorable as a hotel.

Dont stay herr if you have problems with stairs!
Reviewed By avcapobiOk hotel but definitely NOT the place if you can't carry your suitcases up and down the stairs. The only elevator us really slow and only gets to the lobby. I was here with senior citizens and they could barely get up and down the long staircase to the rooms. The bathroom is also a dangerous step up. Pretty expensive for what you get. I'm not coming back.

Reviewed By Element108The place is nice, but the room with carpet was very dirty. It had a lot of dust and it was hard to breathe.The beds were clean though, the bathroom was kinda outdated. The view is amazing and the people working there are nice.

Too expensive for too little
Reviewed By hann0liebenbergThis hotel charges top dollar, however the offering is below standard. I was staying there for 7 nights from 12 to 19 January 2019. The internet was slow (less than 5megabits per second download) and frequently went off. The carpets have stains on them. I got bitten by bed bugs in my room and upon reporting this to reception they merey moved me to a different room and didn't give the matter the extreme urgency that such a thing would normally cause when reported to a hotel. The hotel is surrounded by seabirds that cause the most awful amount of noise and you will be woken by them as soon as first light breaks (long before the sun comes up)
