My half- board rate at the attached Teshio Onsen Hotel included dinner at Yubae. The dinner was, in a word, wonderful. I was not expecting such a good restaurant in a town of only 3,200 people! What a nice surprise.There was an appetizer dish with smoked salmon, a cream cheese ball with nuts on tapenade, and beef carpaccio with grated parmesan. Delicious.A warm custard with mushrooms, shrimp and a bit of fish was also very good. There was a generous serving of tenpura, seven large pieces. That could have been enough. But, add to that a hotpot with mushroom, tofu, scallops -- and even more -- another large serving, a heated ceramic plate with pork, pepper slices and asparagus. Lastly there was a strawberry crème with fresh strawberries on top. It was a feast, and all delicious.The service was great â very friendly and attentive. The décor in the restaurant is modern, with lots of wood and a warm mood. Thereâs a lot of glass looking out towards the sea. With lots of locals using the onsen, itâs a natural meeting- up place, so the atmosphere was nice and lively, with a very positive vibe. I loved this place!
