I visited Restro Rin a couple of years ago and I was deeply impressed by the ability of the chef-patron, Mr Kobayashi. I have now gone back, and the restaurant was exactly the same, including the excellent food. The meal starts with some delicious pate', rillettes, and a slice of home-smoked chicken. Then comes an unexpected pig's tongue. It melts in the mouth, and the spicing is just perfect. There follows a tiny bowl of soup, potato soup. I would have preferred some soupe a' l'oignon, but the creamy soup is very good. Then we waited for a while, while the venison and fish for my friend and a delicious pork cutlet with mustard sauce was slowly prepared. The dessert was a superb apple sorbet. Overall one of the best restaurants in the Ueda (Nagano) region. I was told that from November 2012, Restro Rin will close and the chef will open a "Rotisserie" in the castle town of Matsumoto.
