Best Central European food near Goslar, Lower Saxony, Germany

Reviews on Central European food in Goslar, Lower Saxony, Germany. History is visible all around Goslar, from well-preserved old houses to the Romanesque imperial palace elevated over the city. Designated a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO, the ore mine at Rammelsberg has been closed since 1988, but now teaches visitors about the more than 100 years of mining that occurred in the Harz mountains.

Cruising through the Weihnachtsmarkt outside the hotel, we decided to rather opt for a proper meal and visited this Restaurant called Rotes Eichhörnchen. The waiter was neither welcoming nor friendly, which put us off for starters. We then perused the menu, which would be more befitting for a fast-food outlet. Only two seafood and four meat meals, the rest offered rather mini-meals - the entire menu fitted on a single page. What was offered as 'local speciality' looked more like Bavarian food - Obatzda, Meat Loaf, Weisswurst & Co. No background music was playing, so ambiente was also not too conducive to a good meal. Two of us had the special offer of the day, Goose with Rotkohl and dumplings (which were still raw once they arrived) €22, and two of us had Geschnetzeltes €15, with a rather bitter side salad. After returning the food to the kitchen for the exchange of raw vs cooked dumplings, it took close on 30 minutes for the plates to be returned. The other two by now had long finished their meal. No apologies, no making good - and that in a 4-star restaurant? Very, very poor. The waiter kept his sour face throughout - not a place I would likely dine again. At the price I would have expected significant more quality - pictures attached - very mediocre.

We have just returned from five days in Hanenklee and found this place by chance first for just coffee then for some Goulash and finally a full meal on Christmas night. On every occasion the service was good and the meals were excellent and well priced. I thoroughly recommend it and would return again.

Season for hunting had started. We had great dishes with deer and wild pig. Excellent local beer. Was missing more vegetables and less potatoes.

We had the wild boar and the venison. Both were excellent. The service is friendly and efficient. The interior is neat. The building is very old as the proprietor will tell you. Plus it sits next to a tiny stream. Everything was wonderful, the food, beer, desert, service and the setting. Plus, it was very reasonably priced. This was one of our best meals. Highly recommend!

Wanted to try a typical German place when in Goslar.Nice to dine outside in mid October and service was fast to take our drinks order. And it did not take long to get our drinks where I tried the local Gosbeer. It was great refreshing in the light variant.Placed our order and only waited for 15 min before the food arrived. Unfortunately I made a mistake from the German card with one of my kid orders but they were nice to replace it. Food was nothing special but pre-pared things and tasty. For the price it was fine and with kids it was nice with the fast service. Restaurant is located close to the market square so kind of a tourist trap but I would say as expected. If I wanted fine dining I would have chosen something else.

I ate here two times and on one occasion it happened to be German Beer Day (April 23)!. My most memorable meal was Jägerschnitzel with Bratkartofflen. The potatoes with Speck and Zwiebeln were perfection. I will return just for that dish. And of course the beers were great. Assigning seating to accommodate the wait staff over the wishes of your guests indicates to me a bit of disrespect. I encourage the restaurant to seat customers where customers wish to be, not where the waiters want them to be. Sometimes people wish to be seated away from noisy children or noisy adults for that matter.Hello and thank you for the things we will think about and set into practice. Have a good time, best wishes, Odin Paul, owner and brewmaster

Was there a few times before. "They have" many tea options, but twice happened today they didn't have that option. Ordered Wok with the sauce aside, although they asked to changed when they brought the food (with all the sauce on it) my friend had his food there too. I ate it as it was served. You don't ask such a question to the costumer . I am sorry but quite bad, the situation and the wok thingy!!! The guy taking care of us (small blond) was really nice though! Last time I went there too and the food disappointed me. To the managers: Take a look on what you're serving, better quality than quantity.

We called into this restaurant, as it looked cosy from the outside. We were greeted by a lovely lady called Katy, who supplied us with an English menu. There were 3 good vegetarian options for my wife to choose from, and the food that arrived was an excellent lunch in a very generous portion.I had goulash soup followed by sausage with sauerkraut. My food was also an excellent standard.Draught Weissbier was available in 300ml or 500ml glasses. Beer was cold and fresh.Staff were attentive and friendly.Toilets were clean and had deodorant and hand cream available in the washing area.I recommend eating here whilst in Goslar.

During my first visit to Goslar I had a recommendation to go to lunch at Truffel. Brilliant idea as we enjoyed our visit and the food very much. My sister and I both ordered beef liver Berlin style. Fried liver with onions, apple and fried potatoes. It also came with a small salad. This was just one of about 6 dishes that were offered. Each came with a delicious tomato-rutabaga soup from the days specials. Prices quite affordable for the lunch specials. The total incl. a soft drink each came to Euro 25

This restaurant has a gorgeous setting, with a nice interior and a lovely quiet terrace. Imaginative menu, with local trout (but not available that night, in spite of being advertised on the day's special) and venison. But it was all very disappointing : slow service (only one young friendly man, but definitely not in a hurry), and the wild boar medaillons or mini-steaks were dreadfully overcooked. What a pity. To finish on a positive note: very good organic house wine directly sourced from Weingut Hermann und Bianca Schneider from Landau (Pfalz).
