Bach Mayer

We had two attempts to had lunch at Bach Mayer. First time we went there, it was gorgeous afternoon, with clear blue sky, but it rained in the morning. These guys have lovely garden, so naturally, we wanted to eat outside. We kindly asked if we could be seated in the garden, the answer was NO!! We were really upset, and the hostess showed us indoors instead, which was horrible - we could sense cigarette smoke, and air inside was really horrible, so we left. In few weeks, we were there again, and came over for too. It was a lovely day, with bunch of sunshine in the morning. They did serve in the garden. I kindly asked hostess if we could get a place in the shadow, which they had a few! But she said they all are reserved. I mentioned that we will not stay long, max 30 min. Oh well, we got seated in semi shadow, and during our whole presence, most of the tables in shadow remained unoccupied... Fazit smoky lounge, lazy personal refusing to serve few meters further away from the kitchen :( Garden was useless on a sunny day...

I called ahead because the first two restaurants were full....what luck! I Google mapped it here 2.1km...thrpugh the vineyards! It was a beautiful walk! I was so thrilled to get to the restaurant which appeared to be very clean and traditional. I went during Spanish lunch time 14.30...so I had a big booth all to myself! The staff tag teamed my service, mostly due to the limited English abilities. They were however able to speak some french, which I could understand better than German. We were able to get by with English and French and Google translate. I am vegetarian and was recommended a mushroom pasta dish which at first mention was a bit disappointing. However, it was so beautiful and even more delicious. The wine was spectacular. All wines were from a local vineyard and really great. Dessert was not a disappointment! I had the marscapone ice cream with peanut crumble and mocha cream. It wasn't too sweet...but beautiful with the sweeter white wine. Service was very good, but little things could be improved (needed to ask for a napkin). Otherwise, very professional and attentive. The price was great 37€ 2 large glasses of wine, entree and dessert. I would most definitely recommend and return.

We arrived a bit late during a bike ride ,but the nice lady told us to sit in the beautiful courtyard full of olive trees and lemon trees and we felt we were in Tuscany ....We had snails as entree which were tasty with an unusual sauce made of butter , rosemary and lemon .The best were the liver dumplings which are a specialty of the Palatinate ,but these were the best we have ever tasted : soft and full of flavour served on a bed of perfect sauerkraut. The homemade spätzle to die for as al dente and served with a chanterelle and cream sauce .Their wines very good too and all very cheap.Everything served with a big smile !

In this (despite its name) very small village we was not prepared to find a restaurant of this standing. Just off the narrow sleepy street (Hauptstrasse indeed) this hidden gem served an exquisite and well prepared lunch, complete with a pre-dinner amuse-bouche and a delightful and tasty finishing tidbit to the coffee. Excellent!

We have been there after a short walk in the vineyards. The restaurant is nicely decorated. The menu was diverse and making the decision was difficult as everything looked nice. The wine list offers several local and also international wines which is rather unique in the weinstrasse. The service was very well done. So, for sure we will go back.

Our hotel made us a reservation for the restaurant. It had more offerings than many of the smaller Weinstuben around, but it was also a little more expensive. The food was great and the waiter was trying very hard to impress us with his English. He always said thank you or you are welcome before we ever addressed him. Other than that the service was great. The food was wonderful and well prepared. Eat here if you want a more expansive traditional German menu.

Restaurant Kallstadter Hof

Been there for dinner on a Saturday night. We got there at 1830 left at 2130 - during that time we had wine then first course followed by main and desert. The dishes were BRILLIANT where anything else was waiting time. Personally I don't think it was too slow since we had wine and enjoyed ourselves in the meanwhile but ya'll gotta know this ain't a place for a "fast eat". The courses was seriously great - salad & carpaccio were made SO well, not the common ones you would find in a high class restaurant but more sophisticated. Main courses - the beef stripes were unbelievably tender and the sause & the potatoes with truffles side dish went perfectly well with the meat. I had lamb fillet with scoops of potatoes with Rosmarin which was amazingly tender and flavored. For desert we had the combo which combined all the main deserts so you don't have to struggle with choosing one. Needless to say the wine from that region (BW) was premium. Staff was highly professional and spoke perfect English. Highly recommended!

St. Martin

I went with 2 German Friends during my recent visit to Germany to Freinsheim. The restaurant St. Martin was known to my friends who live in a town nearby and I had been there before, approx. 15-16 years ago. The restaurant is beautiful outside with flowers in all the window and very "gemuetlich" inside. I had a mushroom dish (Pfifferlinge) as I'm vegetarian, which was excellent and my friends were very pleased with their "Schnitzel."The wine was also excellent. There was a list of wines available 'by the glass" and the wines were described as "dry" and "lieblich" (semi-sweet).The prices, especially the wine, were very reasonable, even translated in dollars.I have eaten in several restaurants during my recent stay in Germany, but St. Martin stands out and I hope to eat there again on my next trip to Germany.I think they have outdoor seating in their yard (garden?), but we were there on a very cool day.

While staying in Kallstadt, we had lunch there. We sat outside on a lovely afternoon and enjoyed good wine and a snack of excellent Parmesan cheese with balsamico. We explained that we only wanted a snack and they treated us as if had ordered an expensive meal. We had a very relaxing time after a walk through the vineyards and also bought some bottles to take home. It was on a Sunday and it was busy. As soon as a table became free, it was taken again. It is a very stylish place.
