We were doing a Treasure Trail around Canterbury and came upon Lily’s on our route and decided to sit outside in the sunshine for a well-earned cuppa. This little cafe is a true find and is a lovely organisation to support. We knew nothing of the work of Lily’s until after we got home and did some research. The cafe is gorgeous with delicious home- made cakes. The almond and coconut cake and the lemon and blueberry bundt cake were delicious. The tea is served in charming mismatched cups and saucers and the pots of tea are really generous with all of us having at least two cups. A wonderful concept and a wonderful cafe. Lily’s - you are amazing and wonderful and Canterbury is lucky to have you. I really wish there was a Lily’s nearer to me.

The Refectory Kitchen

We suppose it is inevitable in a city where proprietors don’t have to to try hard because of a captive tourist industry and financially challenged student population, there will be many outlets like this. We were, however, disappointed because the Refectory Kitchen came with above average reviews. Lunch with the house special of hot roast salmon and salad was just OK save for the vinegary, cheap salad dressing blobs. No tomatoes or cucumber. Not sure why these, basic, salad items were omitted. A side dish of chips was unpleasant. Too greasy and not fried at a high enough temperature. Worst of all was the cheap chemical smell from the table cleaning fluid used by waiters and waitresses. Exactly as used in the bad sections of the care home environment. A real turn off. Cost with an apple juice at £11 plus must make for a very profitable business. Average, average, average. Go away, as you probably eventually will, and you won’t be missed.

Went with friends for afternoon tea with Champagne. We were not dissapointed, the sandwiches were freshly made with delicous fillings as were the cream scones. Then a choice of home made cakes with a choice of many different teas. Service was excellent in a very preety tea house. Well worth a visit.

Lovely meal. Delicate flavours. Pistachio cheesecake was delicious as were the aperitif’s from the kitchen. Menu is fish heavy and I was surprised not to find a 28 day aged steak on the menu but went for the duck. The young man in the restaurant tall with blue eyes, started polishing plates in the kitchen and now front of house runs the restaurant extremely well, is attentive, polite and knowledgeable so a shout of to him as-well. The Fordwich Arms certainly lives up to expectations with lots of surprises. Loved it! The duck perhaps a blackberry, some red fruits and more fig for more flavour perhaps? All in all extremely satisfied.

We came here whilst in Canterbury for the afternoon, the weather was great and we managed to find a table in the outside terrace, note that outdoor seating is limited. I ordered Hunter's chicken and my other half had the fish finger sandwich, I was really impressed with my dish, everything was tasty and cooked fresh. My partner wasn't that impressed with his, it was quite a basic breaded fish finger in the sandwich, but this is what was advertised on the menu. Overall I would definitely recommend.

We wanted somewhere interesting to stop for lunch on our way to Sandwich. This beautiful country pub fitted the bill admirably. Traditional features from the original building have been lovingly retained and it’s now an excellent place for food and drink. A wide and interesting menu had lots of lunchtime choices - the baguettes were particularly good. Nice beer as well.

My husband and I were on holiday in Kent and visited this great friendly pub on the 30th of July 2019. We had a fabulous home cooked main meal and puddings with very friendly service from the owners. There was a lovely atmosphere which was made even better by the jazz band playing in the bar which plays on the last Tuesday of every month. This is well worth a visit! !!!!!

We went to Kathton House for the Summer Evening Tasting Menu and were not disappointed. The warm welcome was excellent. It was definitely fine dining but with an element of sophistication and ease combined. The staff were excellent in their delivery and the young man who provided the detailed information regarding the wines for each course was superb. Nothing was too much trouble and I even had Happy Birthday written in chocolate with some chocolate truffles. . Each course was simply delicious and we will be returning without a a doubt. Maybe we might use the accommodation next time in order to drink more of the fantastic wines on offer.
