An event at Canterbury Cathedral followed by a light working lunch took my dining companion and I to this delightful Thai restaurant, on the edge of the mainstream tourist area. The restaurant was blissfully quiet so suited our purpose perfectly. Decorated throughout in true Thai style, Bangkok House provided me with a welcome reminder of past visits to that beautiful country with the waitress service reminding me of the warmth of the Thai people. The starters. We both chose the crispy spring rolls which arrived piping hot, full of flavour and with a mild sweet dipping sauce. Delicious! The mains. I chose the Prawn Pad Thai with extra prawns, a great favourite and which I was happy to pay for. Sadly, the extra prawns didn't materialise but no matter. The dish itself more than compensated for the loss. Perfectly cooked noodles and, again, piping hot. My colleague chose the Thai Green Curry with steamed rice. Again, delicious. All in all, a very welcome oasis close to but comfortably away from the local 'Cathedral' tourist traps. Well worth a visit. Highly recommended.

Popped in for lunch on a Monday.The welcome was very nice.Nice wooden benches and tables. Decor fine. Noise levels- well, happy people eating, high.Waitress, Spanish, brilliant, engaging, knew the dishes, good advice.Food, delicious, filling, hot, spicy.I saw the manageress (I believe), flitting around, working front of house, smiling all the time, doing a brilliant job.Bill with soft drinks about £32. Good value.The Spanish waitress took the bill and chatted to us. We really needed something to waken up our taste senses again in Kent. This Indian restaurant had good recommendations on Google and TA. We are with two vegetarians and one of the kids does not really value spicy food.The men of Gurkha Dine served us well and did great suggestions for some side meals and flavors. All the kids enjoyed their meat, fish and veggies!(Waiting was pretty long for the youngest one: (with 3 tables occupied) over 25 minutes)

Went here today for my daughterâs birthday. What a pleasant surprise. Beautiful little restaurant with amazing food. My starter and main was absolutely delicious. Iâm vegetarian and found that there were quite a few choices to suit me. My husband had a steak and found it cooked to perfection. Our children had the kids menu which was great value with main, dessert and drink included. Our waitress was absolutely lovely- attentive and friendly without being overbearing. Thanks so much . We will be back.

On a Sat night many independent restaurants in Canterbury were fully booked, and the chain restaurants didn't appeal so we went slightly out of centre and found the fabulous Tomago. Wonderful friendly service, great menu, delicious ramen and sides, beautifully served, nice atmosphere, good price, quick service. All was perfect. A real gem. Well done. Can't wait to return.

I was picking my son up from Canterbury West and as this was close by, decided to order a takeaway. A takeaway for three was around £55, reasonable value and the building is stunning, absolutely beautiful. That sadly is all I can say that is positive. On arrival the menu was read out and as my son wanted mint sauce with some of the dishes (lamb cutlets and onion bhaji) I asked for two more. I had already paid for one with the popadoms and the lady behind the counter immediately snapped back that I could not have these for free. I pointed out that I had not asked for them for free, he just liked mint sauce, although most restaurants do provide this with these dishes. I just found it strange.Here is my concern... the lamb cutlets were as tough as old boots and he could not eat them, I tried them and they were chewy and over cooked.. horrible, when cooked properly these are moist, soft and delicious. We had two King Prawn dishes and they were very mediocre, bland to the extreme and underwhelming. Itâs such a shame as the building is wonderful and the atmosphere inside convivial and warm (aside from the lady front of house)! Such potential but the product does not deliver.

Came here after seeing such great reviews. The prices are rather expensive from what I usually expect from a Chinese. £6.80 for a Singapore vermicelli ?? £8 for crispy chilli beef?? Everything is around £1.50-£2 more then normal. We got a variety of dishes, the chicken dishes seemed slightly over cooked and everything seemed to be lacking in flavour. Which was disappointing for the money.
