Ningyocho Imahan Nagoya Midland Square-branch

This place was recommended by the Marriott hotel manager and it was an absolute hit. It is on the 41st floor of the Midland Square tower and there are at least two tables right on the window with awesome city views. For dinner you can choose between Shabu Shabu and sukiyaki. Similar things, but taste is not the same. Price differs by the category of beef you order, either Y10k or 12k per head. Comes with veggie and noodle to cook in the pot. Surprisingly the lower grade tasted better for us, not too fatty. Both types were excellent for sure.Service was excellent. Very japanese. Price was not cheap at USD 100 per head, but well worth it.

Misen JR Nagoya Station

love spicy food and found the taiwan ramen, chicken wings, clams and mapo tofu very satisfying! but if mildly spicy is your preference, you might want to go for the non-spicy dishes on the menu. dishes are slightly on the salty side, so good to go with plain rice.

Hongotei Meieki

Reviewed By Tsucchy

As I read on various review sites, I had to try this Ramen joint. Ramen costs around 780 yens, so it is not bad. Their menu includes Shiroyu, Shouyu, kuromen, miso, chuka, and Taiwanese (sorry, I didn't know how to read the kanji). I went with Shirayu. The soup is "tonkotsu" (pork) based. There was a line out the door, so be patient. They have upstairs sitting area, too. You line up first. Once you are inside and reach the ticket booth, purchase your ticket. If you are next, someone will take your ticket. My Ramen smelled very tasty and tasted very smooth. Noodles were cooked perfectly, and chashu (slice of pork) was very good. Overall experience was great. I was happy after leaving the restaurant.

Menya Hanabi

Hanabi's Taiwan Ramen is without soup, the owner believes that the best way to eat their spicy minced pork is to eat without soup. I ordered their signature 台湾まぜそば (Taiwan Ramen without soup). It has spicy minced pork, fish powder, scallions, leek, egg yolk, garlic and seaweed. Tasty but a bit too spicy for those who can't eat spicy food. After eating the noodles you can ask the staff to add some rice to eat with the left spicy minced pork, I was too full, didn't try the mixed rice.

Yabaton Nagoyaeki Meitetsu Branch

Firstly, the Sumo Wrestler Pig is definitely an iconic symbol of this shop. Secondly, if you are coming to this location and using a map application to find it, use a mixture of map and good intuition. I wandered around for a while before I actually found out I was walking the outside perimeter of Meitetsu, and I totally missed the '9F' in the address, as my map kept recommending I go to the basement. Nope, 9th Floor, and it's basically right outside the elevator--with a huge line of people. Now, the line intimidated me, after I spent so long trying to track down the location, but it moved amazingly fast! 20 people disappeared in roughly 10 minutes. This is helped because they take your order ahead of time, so when you sit down it's only a few minutes before your order appears before you.Warning to English Speakers. When I asked for Eigo (English) Menu, for the first time, I was told they only carry Japanese, Chinese, and Korean. Don't worry, this stunned all my Japanese friends, except the most snooty of them. Still, we spoke enough to get my order taken. If you're there for Miso Katsu and you're relatively hungry, get their largest portion. There is a 'first timer' option which costs a little less with half the serving (1200 Yen vs 1600 Yen, I think), but it's a far better deal to go all the way if you can eat. The regular portion was good sized, but I was able to eat again a few hours later. So after a short wait, I was seated. They offer cold green tea in pitchers. For my plate, it arrived, and they quickly covered it with a generous pour of aka (red) miso, I believe. I didn't really get to read anything while I was there for my own clarification. As I said, the portion was decent--sliced tonkatsu covered in miso sauce, a bowl of rice, and a bowl of miso. The flavor combination was definitely unique, a twist on more plain katsu I've had in Japan and abroad, a bit more robust and less salty. This alone made me wish I ordered a larger serving. They also had Yabaton gifts and merchandise, which I stopped to look at. I slightly regret not buying their T-shirt, as I said, the image is very iconic, and my friend loves pigs--just not for eating. That said, even though this is one of several locations nearby, it was pretty crowded, and it's not a huge location--there's just a lot of foot traffic with Nagoya Station so close to Meitetsu Department Store.
