Want to eat delicious food with fresh ingredients from the market? Chef Egon will prepare it for you. The menus change monthly in accordance with the season. Every dish is presented in a special way. You can feel from the service that it is a family business. If weather permits enjoy dining in the beautiful garden. Among other things we had excellent chanterelles. As this place is very popular make sure you book a table in advance.

Gasthof Ochsen

What can be better than going for dinner on a snowy white evening to a village inn/restaurant where the food is delicious and the decor soo very cosy??!! It was a wonderful experience....the snow outside and all the Christmas lights and Christmas trees, then the warm ambience inside. It has been in the hands of the same family for 250 years and has been a restaurant all this time. How can it not be cosy?? - Low ceilings, wooden beams, an old green enamelled furnace (don't actually know what it is called), a decorated Christmas tree, wooden seating all around and old household items used in the decor. And, above all that, we had a delicious meal. I chose the menu - soup, main course and dessert for 26E. All perfect.I cannot recommend the Ochsen enough. If you are ever in this area of Germany, I highly recommend you to visit.I understand it is also a guesthouse, but, we did not see the rooms so I cannot say anything, but, judging from the restaurant, it must be a very authentic and special experience to stay here.

(Gasthaus Zur Blume Kleinkems, Kleinkems is the name of the village belonging to Efringen-Kirchen).Years ago we had a basic hotel in Melaca, Malaysia. Superclean, white tiles, very small, hot. When we entered our room in Zur Blume I thought: yes Melaca, superclean, white tiles. But it was not small, no tropical heat either, we had a decent amount of space. Well installed bathroom. Only the television on the wall was unobservable from the bed. So you had to sit down on one of the two right up chairs, which was not very pleasant . It is a pity that the room designer did a bad job in this respect. The hotel has a nice outside restaurant, a choice of dishes but practically no choice for veggies. Pleasant staff, good drinks. Staff advised us which restaurant in the neigbourhood to choose for a veggie meal. A good advice indeed. The hotel’s WIFI is very poor.

My husband and I went to this restaurant in the small village with no real expectations having read about it in a food/restaurant guide. We were very pleasantly surprised. From outside it looked fresh and inviting with its small, but pretty terrace surrounded by green trees. A whitewashed wall had been creatively decorated with coloured glass bottles set into it. Inside was equally attractive. We hadn't made a booking and were a little early. Within ten minutes the terrace was full and inside was getting busy. Service was good and the hearty, mostly local, food was tasty. A selection of the wines come from the vintner next door. Our choice was good and inexpensive. Although busy, we were not rushed in any way and enjoyed a delightful experience.

Great location, Buildings nothing special on the outside but once you get into the restaurant the place is warm, cozy and welcoming. We had carrot soup, very good, salad wasnt comparable to ultrafresh organic but good enough, some cold cuts a pot of tea ( assam) not the best ive ever had sadly, and a slice of very good cake. I appreciate the fact that tea is served in china, you get a big pot, old rugs add colour on bare floorboards, old comfy chairs invite you to stay, there are rose patterns on everything and unlike the more utilitarian style of swiss or german cafe this place is like visiting your aunt betty for tea ( only being in germany, unlike your aunt bettys its really warm inside) - a fireplace in every room, friendly waitstaff, a bit harried, not fast but that s fine. Easily spent 3 hours relaxing. One complaint - if you pay with a credit card and the bill is less than 40 euros they charge you 2 euros on top - they tell you when you want to pay which is fine, but for 2 people without alcohol 40 euros is a high bar (afternoon snacks not lunch) - still 5 stars because whats in the box is whats on the box and i know of no other place this charming serving scones and clotted cream in the basel areaDear Polianthusthank you so much for your warm feedback. I am glad that you appreciated our house. We always try to create a nice atmosphere for our guests. You mentioned thatthe vegis could be improved which I totally agree. Winter is a bit difficult, but our chef has already worked out a contract with a local biofarmer for all our vegetables and our gardeners are about to sow all kinds of herb- and vegetable seeds in the greenhouses.( We mostly get seeds from Sarah Raven ).So from spring onwards everything will be fresh as a daisy, so I hope.We are looking forward to seeing you again some time when the gardens are at their best. With kindest regardsGisela Seidel

We had a lovely family meal here, which met all the requirements - Wiener Schnitzel (great for kids), Elsaesser Flammkuechle and Spaetzle dishes were all excellent. Friendly staff - very accommodating for a larger group. Good value for money too and not to forget the excellent view over the Vogesen in the sunset - stunning.

We visited the restaurant rather late in the evening and just before they were going to close the kitchen. So, we had to make up our choice very fast. The food was very good, the portions way too big. As well as for the kids (kids menu) as for the adults. Some advice, only take starters when you are really hungry, I mean Hungry :-)At the end of our dinner, a thunderstorm was on its way and the staff adviced us to go inside and helped us with our plates.
