A Gem with Excellent Service

I absolutely loved my stay at this beautiful hotel located near the San Sebastian neighborhood. Quaint and charming in a wonderfully restored mansion converted to what is essentially a bed and breakfast. I stayed 6 nights and then another night on my return to Cuenca. Both rooms were clean, comfortable, with quality mattresses, good pillows, plenty of hot water and thick, sumptuous towels. Breakfast was fruit, eggs, roll, cheese, juice, coffee and yoghurt with muesili with variations each day. Maria was amazing and went out of her way to ensure i had a good stay, as did the remaining staff. I have nothing but good things to say about my stay here.

A wonderful place to stay in the heart of Cuenca

Reviewed By tonytD9568SZ

Sonia provided a beautiful place to call home for 4 nights during our time in Cuenca. Her B&B is stunning ( built in the 1800's). It is a colorful place with lots of antiques to look at but at the same time seems very up to date. The breakfasts were very tasty with fresh fruits, yummy pastries/breads and eggs. She has lots of information available . Her English is limited but Google translate and my wife who spoke some Spanish but Google translate worked just fine-don't let this deter you from staying here . It is blocks away from the main square and there is an amazing Italian restaurant called Manjare 2 blocks away. If available ask for the front room it is a little more expensive but worth it.

Great staff and location but the guest noise level is unbearable and WiFi setup is terrible

Reviewed By Phillip O

I am torn about my rating for this bed and breakfast, but the negatives outweigh the positives, at least for me. I will list the bad first: 1) Noise level is terrible all day until about midnight. I am just talking about what past guests have said. The building design is not good for a bed and breakfast 2) Only one employee speaks English and he works nights. The staff is friendly, professional and trained make the guests happy, but nowadays, a bed and breakfast should hire bi-lingual staff; there are plenty of them in Cuenca. 3) WiFi setup is inadequate for the # of guests that are streaming video. I was unable to Skype with my family and grandkids on Christmas. I got tired of asking the staff to reset the router 3 or 4 times a day and finally just did it myself, since the router was a few steps away in the courtyard in front of my room. The staff and management kept blaming the WiFi provider, but the router was 10 years old and there was not enough bandwidth to take care of all the guests. If you have a cell phone with an adequate data plan, then this is not a problem for you. The inability to Skype with my 6 grandkids and family ruined my Christmas and New Year. I stayed at the property for 15 days. The good: 1) Breakfast was awesome and changed every morning. Eggs cooked to order and ability to take a tray to your room was perfect. I have stayed at hotels that have bigger setups, but none were better. They always had strong coffee and fixings for tea available all day long. 2) Hot water was great and rainfall shower head. Never a lack of hot water or high pressure. The shower was huge but needed a mat to prevent falling when floor got wet. I had to use a towel to avoid falling. 3) Staff was friendly, well trained and willing to make your stay pleasant ( except for the noise level and WiFi that sucks) 4) Location is close to all the tourist spots and walking to most places was an easy feat. Taxi fare was usually under $2 and there are plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Most cafes had a daily special for $2-$3, with drink, desert and main course. Or you could go to a fancy place and spend as much as a meal in the USA. 5) My room was well appointed, with Direct TV ( no English channels) and bed was very comfortable. The guest room attendant did a great job of keeping me supplied with toiletries, towels and extra pillows. 6) Price was very reasonable and breakfast was included. My total cost for 15 days, including all taxes, was $347. This was a geat deal for Christmas and New Years. The bottom line is that you need to decide if you can live with WiFi that sucks and a high level of noise, for a great location, great staff and awesome breakfast. I would rather pay a little more for a quiet room and strong WiFi. That is the problem with Skype- once you discover it and set up friends and family with the app, Bandwidth becomes as important as hot water or a comfortable bed!! BTW, the management never communicated with me about my WiFi complaint, but hid behind the staff, that can only apologize for being unable to make me happy. Bah, Humbug!!

Don’t stay there if you plan to sleep at night. The place is so noisy that it seems like you are trying to sleep in the park. You can hear the chirping of the crosswalk light, and cars and motorcycles speeding next to your ear. You can understand people talking outside while lying on your 3rd floor room! Good location but nothing matters if you can’t have a decent rest. Just awful

Check inn bed and breakfast - BedBugs - horrible

Reviewed By Brandon9229

Stayed here with a friend 1 night, reported bed bugs the next day. We were moved to a new room. He was aware of the problem already and just lied and said “the plastic around all mattresses was because customers piss and s*** on the beds” it is actually because he has had his building treated so many times for bed bugs. Found out all my stuff is infected, the safest thing to do is throw away everything I own and buy new, not worth taking the chance of bringing this home with me. Feel sorry for the guy but people need to know that if you stay here all you clothes, bags will be infected and you will transfer them everywhere you go and back to your home and they are ridiculously hard to kill once they have spread. Not great

Reviewed By knovillo

I had reserved a triple room purposefully because I would be traveling with my two teenagers. Upon arrival, the receptionist barely greeted us, didn’t introduce himself, then quickly grabbed two of our suitcases and rushed us into our double room. He could not accommodate our request for a triple room until the next night. Not wanting to be an obnoxious guest, I thanked him for doing that for us. As my kids and I squeezed into the tiny room and tried to sleep, the incredible amount of noise both from a discotheque nearby and all of our hotel neighbors, we realized that we would not be comfortable at all in this place. Siena Hotel is only for 1-2 guests who are super heavy sleepers.

We really like this place

Reviewed By Larissa9591

We came in to Cuenca on January 1, 2020 in rainy evening. Hotel we made a booking with (I don't want to call it's name) didn't find our reservation in spite of lot's of print out confirmation papers and emails. They offered us a very small and tiny room on 4th floor with no elevator. So we decided to find another place. Just around the corner we found Hotel Cordero with amazing and thoughtful Ismenita on reception desk. Bingo! She gave us nice large room with outside view with 2 double beds on second floor with elevator. Two other guys we met in this place and lady from restaurant were also nice people. Thank you, guys. You made our stay in Cuenco comfortable and pleasurable. Larissa and Andrei from Canada
