I have eaten at this restaurant a few times, it's a fairly good option for being fast, local and reasonably priced but don't expect your dream roast dinner. The roast potatoes are consistently THE worst I've ever had, they're soft on the outside, and not soft on the inside, awful. They are always covered with paprika, so they're powdery and are bright orange with an overpowering flavour. I'd happily go in the kitchen and show the chef how to cook roast potatoes that are crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside! These potatoes are your only option, no other potato choice. The meat is lovely, as long as you don't want lamb, they don't seem to ever do lamb, disappointing. The vegetables are ok, however the mashed Swede is 90% carrot and 10% swede, bit of a shame. Cauliflower cheese is nice though. The usual offering of peas, sweetcorn and runner beans is available and always a dish of underdone cabbage and leek. Underdone stuffing balls are also available, thank god for the great gravy! There is NO drinks list. If you ask any of the staff about their wine, they don't have a clue what they have, no idea whatsoever! Even the barman has to read wine labels as he has no idea either! I always end up following the waitress to the bar to read the wine labels, every single time! Would a wine list really be too much to ask of a restaurant? If you're starving, you could do worse, and the trips to the buffet are unlimited. If you want fine dining, this is not the place for you!

The Blacksmiths Arms

A traditional Kentish pub serving good home cooked food, daily specials, fresh fish and local suppliers.

We were staying for a few days in the area in a chain hotel so we looked for a traditional pub for sunday lunch and found the Blacksmiths arms. I have to say that our roast beef sunday lunch was without any doubt the best we have encountered. The service was first class and all the staff were friendly and helpful, a log fire just added to the ambiance. After this we came every day for the next 5 days for lunch and sampled many of the delicious meals including the steak and kidney pudding which I thought was excellent. I did have an issue with the fish pie, nothing wrong with it just that it did not suit me. I ate some of it and left the rest which was quickly spotted by Stephane who offered to get me something else. I said I would really like some biscuits and cheese. He said they did not have that on the menu and but would see what he could do. He soon returned with a huge plate of various cheeses, pickle, biscuits, butter, celery and apple and a glass of port and said this is on the house!. Now that's what I call service and attention and care of a customer. Rarely found in this age of chuck it on the table and if you dont like it nobody cares at all found in most places and certainly in the chain pubs. I can really recommend this pub and whenever we are passing in the future will take the time to visit. Very many thanks to Stephane and his staff and in particular to the lovely lady behind the bar who was so nice to us and sorry I did not get your name.

Found this place after being hugely let down by a large establishment down the road. Im so glad we found this lovley friendly place. The welcome was pleasant, we were shown to the restaurant by the girl at the bar who was very friendly. We ordered and service was very good, food was of a decent standard. We will be returning to this pub again, as we both enjoyed the food and drinks on offer!

The Old Mill

A traditional looking, privately owned pub with a large restaurant serving very, very good quality grills (with Scottish aged beef a signature menu item), seafood (fresh lobster another speciality), an expanding fresh vegetarian menu and many other meals.

On a very wet and windy Saturday evening we came for an evening meal with friends, and a very successful meal it was. The warm and friendly welcome was totally different to the horrible conditions outside and we were quickly shown to our table. There was a large selection on the menu and my wife, who is Gluten Free, hasd no difficult in finding a meal to her taste as there Gluten Free, Vegan and Vegetarian options on the menu. The food was well-presented, very tasty and efficiently served. The portion size was more than ample and it was good value for money. The setting itself is very convivial and a very good atmosphere. I would recommend The Old Mill as a very good place to eat and drink.

Booked a table for 2.30 and arrived on time. We were immediately shown to table in front of the toilets, unfortunately every time someone entered either the ladies or the gents we could see right in to the toilets. Not really what you want to see when your tucking into your Sunday lunch. Having been seated the waitress immediately asked us for our drinks order and return some 5 minutes later to take our food order. Having placed our order we had to wait 45 minutes for our food, when the food did eventually arrive it was adequate an OK meal. Far as the pub is concerned it's looking tired, the carpets are dirty and old as is the upholstered seating and both could do with a deep clean or replacing

We have eaten here before and it was the obvious choice for our wedding breakfast, made even more so because of the hotel above. This is a wonderful place for lunch or dinner, or indeed breakfast, with local sourced food and drink, but a wide selection of wines from further afield. We were looked after by friendly and professional staff whose visible smiles didn't shift despite our loud enjoyment, sorry to the other diners, and the wedding balloons and very eco-unfriendly plastic table decorations which we were still picking up at breakfast, which was every bit as wonderful as dinner. We live locally and unreservedly recommend The Kings Head restaurant for breakfast lunch and dinner and we can't wait to come back again soon.

Three courses for under £18 can't be bad, however no one is going to get fat. The pigeon was bland, the pork belly and potatoes overcooked. The chocolate brownie nice but too small.Having read so much about the pork it was very disappointing.Plenty of room between tables and quiet unobstrutive staff. Real shame as really looking forward to meal.
