Great Unagi and very generous portion. Interesting that it primarily seems to be visited by locals so no queues, restaurant actually has parking and very friendly staff looking after you and keen to practice their English. Very worthwhile alternative to the other top Ungai places.

My husband and I have been to Japan many times and we both agree this is one of the better kaitenzushi in Japan. Their sushi all come with thick and long slices of fresh fish. Ordering is done via an iPad with English option so worry not about not being able to read Japanese. There is one service staff, an elderly lady who is super helpful and chirpy, which made our experience there even better. A must-visit if you are around Sakae area.

As the name suggests Sapporo Kani, is a restaurant that specializes the Hokkaido crab. I am suprised though that although it may bear the name Sapporo, it has more branches here scattered around Nagoya City with around 4 or five stores. I visited the Nagoya Kanayama branch due to proximity to my home. Reservations by phone are not allowed, but waiting area is cozy and since there is a pond of live crabs, you would really be excited to order what is ahead. They offer Kaiseki courses with several crab variants, snow crab, queen crab and the highly priced king crabs. Depending on season, each crab would be the best to eat. Although most Japanese would say that crab season is in autumn and winter. The prices and the extent of preparations are really to showcase the crab as a vital and versatile food ingredient.Usual courses start with the crab tofu, a cold appetizer with delicate crab flavor enough to start up the appetite, crab meat au gratin, they it would be followed by crab marimo or miso, they the fried shell crab with fresh rhubarb and lemon slice (an easy favorite) and the dish highlight the Kani suki or crab combination and vegetables to be boiled in dashi and dipped in ponzu sauce. I would always like the soup because it has all the good essences of the ingredients. Ask a lot of lemons...To look forward are ala carte preparations which include crab siomai, boiled crab, sashimi in drift ice and grilled crabs.Lunch menus vary and are named after places of Hokkaido start at 2500. The course dish are more expensive. With multi-storey buildings as the restaurant, one may have the impression that thousands of people eat crab all at once on a day to day basis. However going beyond the facade is the fact that the volume of the building is mainly dedicated for aerated tanks to keep alive the valuable crabs, and well appointed, japanese themed room with graden views. This in itself makes the dining experience special. Plus the servers are in traditional kimonos, and the eating wares are of course crab- themed. This restaurant though in order to enjoy the experience fully need not to be hurried up...Take at least 2 hours for the course, and dont come just before closing... They are a bit strict on this, which is I think the only downside I could think of.Seasonal discounts are available, look for coupons in free food guides or webpages as these are really useful to go for good value meals, because discounts are really big at 50%.Non-Japanese speakers need not fear because they have English menu.I really look forward to bringing friends and family to this restaurant when they visit me...
