Historic Old Town

Reviewed By denisf255 - Toronto, Canada

Located along the Vistula River, this former State of the Teutonic Knights is a must for historians. During the era of the State of the Teutonic Knights Grudziadz had become a distinguished trade center, in particular for textiles and agricultural products including grain. The town proper was surrounded by town walls, except on the side of river Vistula, where instead of walls there stood huge massive grain silos, from where grain could be transported through wooden pipes to the embankment of the river. At the end of World War II, As the result of heavy fighting in 1945, over 60% of the city was destroyed.

Bombed to the core in 1945 it was rebuilt later by the citizens. It's like a huge monument to the lost power of Teutonic Order which settled and ruled here ih the 14th century. Unforgettable view over the city and Vistula river. Wish you were here =)

It is ok for kids under 10. Do not expect disneyland! The restaurant outside the park is ok and not expensive. Inside you have to pay extra for horseriding, shooting etc.

forteca w północnej części miasta, której budowa rozpoczęła się 6 czerwca 1776 roku z rozkazu króla Prus Fryderyka II. Inne forty powstały na przełomie XIX i XX wieku.
Większość umocnień była wykorzystana jedynie w 1806, 1807 i 1945 roku. Wiele z nich, włącznie z Cytadelą, zachowało się do dziś w dobrym stanie. Fragmenty fortyfikacji są dostępne dla zwiedzających.
Super polecam

Most ładnie prezentuje się, zwłaszcza okazale wygląda od strony spichlerzy. Niestety próba przejechania go w godzinach szczytu nie należy do najszybszych i najprzyjemniejszych, choć można znaleźć czas na podziwianie go od środka.

I was visiting Grudziadz on holiday on May 22 2012, and came across this museum and art gallery. I speak a little Polish and I found out that on Tuesday's entry is free. The staff were helpful, despite our language differences. I first saw several rooms of paintings and theatrical photographs, which I thought were good for a provincial art gallery to have in its collection. The staff then led me to 2 other buildings, which contained exhibits on the history of Grudziadz from stone age times up until the 1940's. Part of the display had information in English and German. The museum and gallery were more intresting than I expected they were going to be.

3 to uczciwa ocena, jednak na zachętę.
muzeum jest żywcem wyjęte z poprzedniej epoki, suche eksponaty, brak przewodników papierowych i elektronicznych, kilku pracowników, którzy obsługują kilku gości dziennie.

Fort Wielka Ksieza Gora

The fort at Wielka Ksieza Gora was undoubtedly the most powerful fortification located in the east of the German Empire. It is a unique example of the so called Festung from its early evolution period. It is still a valuable heritage site and the objective of pilgrimages of fortification lovers. Concept work on construction of fortifications started already in 1885-1886 and the construction itself began in 1889 and it ended in 1914 with over 22 shelters/bunkers/ammo shelters. In 1920, the fort was taken over by Polish military leadership, in 1926 the Festa was renamed as Dabrowski Fort. After the occupation, munitions and explosives warehouses were created in the bunkers. Soviet forces used heavy howitzers located at the conquered fort during the siege of Grudziadz in February and March of 1945. On 4.12.1998, the site was officially entered into the registry of heritage sites. Currently, Fort Wielka Ksieza Gora association is active on the site, which makes it possible to visit.
