Arabesque

This hotel is temporarily closed. -- About the property: Arabesque is a newly restored and renovated Ottoman building in the ancient city of Acre (Akko/Akka) on the northern Mediterranean coast of Israel. Nearly 300 years old but with some stones dating back one thousand years to the Crusader period, Arabesque boasts a Great Hall with a baby grand piano and chef’s kitchen for events; a cozy courtyard with a trickling savil fountain; and three sumptuous suites all with high vaulted ceilings, original stone walls, tile floors, antique furniture, artwork, and all the amenities of a modern hotel room: TV, a/c, comfortable furnishings, a kitchenette. Arabesque is situated in the very middle of the Old City and is only a few minutes’ walk to the suk (market), the Crusader Knights’ Hall, the Templar Tunnel, the Al Jazzar Mosque, the Turkish bathhouse and all the other major tourist attractions. Its central location also means that the experience of a stay at Arabesque is one of being a part of the local community and not apart from it. About us Arabesque is owned by the father-and-son team of Evan Fallenberg (artistic director) and Micha Fallenberg (manager) and staffed by locals. Evan is a novelist, translator and professor of creative writing and literary translation at Bar-Ilan University; Micha is a trained tour guide and adventure sport enthusiast. For them, Arabesque is more than just a charming place to spend a few nights; it is a venue designed to serve the local community through hosting cultural events, promoting local talent, and welcoming artists of all kinds to engage in dialogue through the arts. About the neighborhood Arabesque is located at the very center of the Old City of Acre, one of the oldest inhabited cities on earth and a UNESCO World Heritage Conservation Site. Once the capital of the Crusader kingdom, Acre is today Israel’s second most popular tourist destination, with its colorful market, unique culinary traditions, marina, beaches, museums, festivals, mosques and churches. The annual fringe theater festival is the most important of its kind in the country. The main tourist sites include buildings and ruins from the Hellenistic, Ottoman and Crusader periods, such as Al-Jazzar Mosque, the Order of St. John, the subterranean Crusader city and enchanted garden, the Khan al Omdan and Sultan’s Clock Tower, Hamam Al Basha (Turkish bath-house), the Hospitaller fortress, and the Templars Tunnel. There are unique museums, like the Underground Prisoners Museum, the Okashi Museum and the “Treasures in the walls” Museum for Ethnography and Folklore of Acre and the Galilee. The city itself is a living museum offering walks that track Crusader, Ottoman, Napoleonic, Jewish or Bahai points of interest, though getting lost in the city’s maze of alleyways is often the greatest treat of all.

Unforgettable weekend!!!

Reviewed By AnaMariaL521

My friends and I stayed a weekend before joining a group in Tel Aviv. It was beautiful, an Ottoman period stone structure with unique rooms. The breakfast are included and are very typical of the Mediterranean diet. The General Manager Fabian is very personable and laid back which sets the tone for his staff, without lowering the Hotel's standards. Would return. It's location makes seeing the city very easy.

Beit Elfarasha

Magical

Reviewed By DASBarcelona

Beit Elfarasha is a beautiful multilayered experience that is captivating on every level. I don't want to spoil the impact by describing in too much detail. However any visitor or guest will feel the magic whether they are attending a cooking class, yoga seminar or find an opening to stay over in one of the beautifully decorated and furnished rooms. Another special aspect of Beit Elfarasha is the connectedness to its surroundings in Akko - artistically, culturally and culinarily. Highly recommended.

Shabby, dilapidated and expensive

Reviewed By Amnon B

I have never stayed in a place where there was such a gulf between the advertised description and the actual reality. The construction and condition of the rooms was appalling: Floor tiles were broken and uneven. The walls were made of plaster-board, held in place with gaffer tape. DIY electrical wiring which was a fire hazard, with multiple extension leads attached to the walls, and bare wires coming out of holes in in walls. Holes in the walls in random places. Graffiti on the walls. Stains on furniture. (see photos) The owner's listing on booking.com claims to accept credit cards. But she refused to accept payment by credit card and threatened us with the police if we did not pay in cash.
