8 Villas in Puerto Rico: Best hotel deals for 2023

April 23, 2023 Myesha Cogley

Puerto Rico offers the perfect balance of rum-soaked nightlife and tranquil retreat. The Spanish colonial buildings of San Juan set a perfect backdrop for a day of shopping and sightseeing. Hike the massive El Yunque rainforest to see waterfalls, stone towers, and colorful Puerto Rican wildlife. As far as beaches go, it doesn’t get better than the private sands of Isla de Vieques – particularly Mosquito Bay, where by moonlight the water glows blue-green thanks to magical microorganisms.

Hacienda Tres Casitas

Return to Paradise

Reviewed By 663janetv

My husband Ray and I were blessed with a return to Hacienda Tres Rios. It’s our little piece of paradise and our home in the Mayan Riviera. What makes Tres Rios amazing are two things #1 the eco system that has three natural, clear, pristine rivers that run through the property which support the mangrove jungles. It’s a place that is lush and beautiful. It is a daily thing to see the wildlife all over the park like Iguanas, tropical Great Kiskadees, Cuati, large and small fish, sea turtles, geckos and so much more. There are beautiful resort pools that stretch out all inside the park and there are adult and family areas. One area has a new water slide feature. Inside the resort are 6 or 7 restaurants including an ice cream and coffee parlor. Each night there are free high quality professional entertainment shows. In the daytime you can enjoy complimentary kayak or snorkeling tours. We bring our own snorkeling fins, masks and wet suits and spend all day in the rivers. Usually we take the catamarans out but this trip they were waiting on a part to repair the one the resort has since a recent storm took the second one out to sea! What makes the Hacienda amazing is #2- the staff. We were so happy to re-encounter many staff we have known for years such as Jose Rubio from Kotori and Antonio from Abeje. Nateri from Portabello. Also Jose from the grill. We became Herencia members this trip and met new friends in Janelly, Daniel and Gabriel who are the butlers. Everything we asked they made happen in a seamless and excellent customer service way. We also met Felix in the Herencia balcony who made us feel welcome and cared for. We were blessed to see Patricio, Doc Rojas, Joshua and Luis in sales. Someone who stands out is Jonathan in beach activities who arranged our kayaks and gave me the most beautiful conch shell he found as a gift. It’s the little things like this that make the experience amazing. We were blessed to rent a car with Marco at the resort to be able to visit Fisheman’s Village resort to see our friend Marcial and hotel manager Antonio. It is like coming home to go there and the food, hot tub and beach are also so amazing! We didn’t get to see our long time friend Gina Mora because she was working at the Royal Sunset in Cancun and we didn’t rent a car for the week this time like we usually do, but we will see her next time! We have been owners in sunset group since 2003 and have never regretted it. We look forward to spending more time in paradise in the next several years!! Especially in our retirement! Hope you will read this and give Hacienda Tres Rios or Fisherman’s a week to find your own slice of paradise!! By the way- speaking of slices, the resort has a brick oven pizzeria!! - Raymond and Janet VW

Oceania Villas

Good but could be Better

Reviewed By Jimmy9

We recently spent a few days in one of the Oceania Villas and had a great time. That said, there are a few things they could improve to make it a five star experience, mainly on the customer service side of things. Pros- Location- the villas are on a quiet stretch of road on the way to Club Seaborne with an absolutely beautiful view of Ensenada Honda/Fuldoza Bay from the deck. I loved sitting on the deck in the morning enjoying a cup of coffee and the view, as well as late afternoon after returning home from one of Culebra's gorgeous beaches and enjoying a glass of wine or beer. The Villa- The Villa itself was well equipped, clean and well appointed. There was nothing shabby about the place and we really enjoyed our time there. Use of Club Seaborne- since Oceania Villas is owned and managed by Club Seaborne, we were able to go there for breakfast, use the pool and hammocks, and their kayaks and paddleboards, which was a really nice perk. Cons- Customer service was lacking. The Oceania Villas/ Club Seaborne website promised %15 off our flights to and from the island on VAL if we book through them. I had to email them repeatedly (well over 5 times) over a month's time before they actually booked our flights and when they did there was no discount. We were told they would be in touch as the dates of our visit approached to provide info and see if there was anything we needed, they never contacted us. As part of the online booking process you are asked if you would like the villa stocked with water, fruit, beer and wine for your arrival- I paid in excess of $100 to do this and when we arrived nothing was in the villa, I had to go to Club Seaborne and show them my invoice before they delivered things and even then they arrived the day before we left, so some of it we couldn't enjoy. The Shower- the largest shower in the villa did not work- no hot water and the drain was clogged, we all used the smaller one during our stay. The Master Bedroom Bed- it's like a slab of granite, not comfortable, they could use a serious upgrade on the mattress. Again, these are not major issues and we really did enjoy our time in our villa and look forward to returning. But by addressing these issues they could take it from a four to a five star experience.

I reserved this place, it looks great. A member of my party passed away, a dear family member. Jose the owner had over 1 month notice and we only held the reservation for a week. He charged us over $2,000 even with proof of obituary - I do not endorse businesses that treat other people this way.

Hotel Lucia Beach Villas

HOTEL LUCIA BEACH review Yabucoa 00767, Puerto Rico

Reviewed By ibgyahoo

We stayed at this hotel from July 19 through July 27, 2017. The hotel is located two steps from Lucia beach. We came to this hotel in hopes of having a beach where we could swim. The beach is unusable, as the bank is covered by seaweed, which is 10’-15’ wide and 2’-3’ deep. The water is dirtier than a sewer and was most likely never checked for viruses. In 8 days, we only saw one person go into the water. It is not safe to go in this pigwash. We had two full size beds, a refrigerator, a microwave, a coffee maker without coffee or tea, and disposable cups with a note saying that these cups are not disposable and a suggestion to use them and leave them behind. We were only given a tiny closet to hang our clothes. There was a television set, but the channel selection is very poor; there was no sport or movie channels, but merely local broadcast channels. The hotel provides one hand towel for two people and two slightly larger towels as bath towels, as well as a floor towel. There were no beach, pool, or fitness room towels. There is a laundry facility. The service is nice. At the front desk, some of the people are very polite and did everything they were asked, whereas some were more official and less accommodating. There is a large shower space. The water pressure is very low and when two people in different units are taking a shower at the same time the water barely comes out. The WiFi works well. The pool is large and nice. There is a fitness room with a running treadmill, which was not working for most of the time, and two stationary bicycles, only one of which worked. There is also a power stand and a bench. There are some free weights. No towels or water were provided. We had an included breakfast. There is a breakfast menu with a few selections, but you may have only one selection. For anything additional there is a price indicated in menu. The hotel also has an AI plan. We had a rental car and once at a restaurant I parked the car too close to a parking curb. The right side of the bottom of the front bumper had a deep scratch. I had everything insured, but I didn’t want to deal with the car rental company. I came to the auto paint store. I had a mazda mirage in gray. I didn’t want to paint it myself, so I asked for a mechanic who could do it. They sent me to a nearby place that does bodywork. The scratch affected a curved silver trim on front bumper. The mechanic checked the scratch and gave me a price. I offered him less, thinking that he would only cover the scratch. He accepted a slightly higher price than I offered. The next morning, I brought my car and the mechanic drove me back to the hotel in his car. He doesn’t speak English and I do not speak Spanish, so he put his phone on translation and told me that he would call me when it was done. Close to the end of the day, he came over to pick me up. When we came to the body shop I was shocked with the work he did. The car looked better than new. He did the silver trim that looked better than a new car. I was ashamed that I had offered a lower price. I want to pay him his original price, but he refused to take the money and took only the price we agreed on. He did a masterpiece. I appreciated the look of this work until I dropped the car at rental dealer. If any of you are in Yabucoa, PR and need car bodywork done, I would suggest this guy; his name and address: Anibal (Taller Cano Niby), Carr 901 km 2.7 Bo Juan Martin, phone: 787-310-0803. I would not stay at this hotel next time because of my unpleasant experience.

Discovery Inn At 681 Ocean Drive

Right in the Middle of Where You Want to Be

Reviewed By AliBug

This inn is located right off the road in the middle of Arecibo and easy access to see all the local attractions. Honestly, I selected this inn based on the ocean waves crashing onto the back porch of the room. It's incredibly beautiful! You can see both the sunset and sunrise over the ocean right there. The room was extremely comfortable. My husband and I being of a certain age were concerned about the room being cool enough during the night. It was nice and chilly. There was a little kitchenette in the room as well which made it very convenient. We stayed here for two nights and everything was perfect. I highly recommend staying here when visited Arecibo.
