We are waiting for you at the welcome of your heartfelt welcome. (access) 1 hour by car from Fukuoka Airport, 5 minutes by car from Kyushu Shinkansen Shin Tamana station

Convenient location around 1 hour drive from Fukuoka Airport

We chose to stay at Satsuki Besso as it was closed to Fukuoka and because it stated that there is a family bath. However, we were disappointed to find out that we have to pay extra to book and use the family onsen even as hotel guest. As there were not a lot of other guests at the hotel, we decided to use the "public shared onsen" instead. The food at dinner was good. However, as we only arrived at the airport in mid afternoon and we could only take dinner at the last serving time at 19:00. There was only 1 piece of tofu left on side table when we got there and the staff did not refill the pot so not everyone in our family of 5 got to try the tofu. There was also no wifi in our room, although the signal is strong at the reception. Finally check out time is 10am but the onsen closed by 9am. It would have made more sense if the check out time and the onsen closure time were the same.

Excellent service in a lovely modern ryokan

Reviewed By garetjax72

Modern-styled ryokan located in Tamana, near Kumamoto. The setting is lovely, with a low building situated beside a beautifully manicured garden on a slope, that is nice to walk in in the evening or morning. Service is exceptional, with kaiseki-style dinner served in-room. Breakfast is served in a common room, however. The onsen water is quite hot (around 56 degrees Celsius), but the onsen setting itself is pleasant. Very good value for what we paid, and highly recommended. Note that the ryokan has an electric vehicle charging point at the entrance, which is a definite bonus.
