We have just moved to this part of Switzerland and I thought it might be useful to someone to see some English language reviews of local attractions. The Horgen-Meilen ferry is not officially tourist attraction and more just an “ordinary” means of public transport. However, for visitors it’s definitely an enjoyable thing to do and a practical, inexpensive way to get to the other side of the lake. Simply walk or drive onto the ferry and the helpful staff direct you where to go. They will then come round during the journey to take payment, which is only CHF1.50 each way. The view and the refreshing lake breeze on the ferry ride is lovely, and both towns on either side, Horgen and Meilen, are nice places to visit. There are places to sit and enjoy the view with a coffee or ice cream on both sides. It’s not a full day out as it only takes a few minutes but as a means of transport it is certainly more of a novelty than driving or catching a train! There is also a nice playpark for children at the ferry port on the Horgen side.
