If you are into hotspring, this is a must. It is so unique and is fun experience to enjoy hot springs and waves in front of you! The facilities are good for day trippers so I will also recommend that as there isn’t much to do at night, so just drive back. Quality is good. Tip: go in just before sunset

Our family (2yrs to 70yrs year old) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Super sincere staff, delicious food and well planned customised itinerary, made this the best family trip we’ve been. The suite had a great view and to top it off, there is a private onsen. Ski, eat & soak everyday- cannot get any better! Special shout out to Kenji San & Daisuke San, who made the experience memorable. We will be back soon

Great view, love the buffet!

Was there on a 3 day package tour which includes flight + room + round trip transportation provided by the hotel to and from Aomori airport with my family. It was a great deal since it is considered off-peak season in mid February. Pros: 1) great choice of western/japanese food-half buffet, half fixed meals included for breakfast and dinner 2) Shamisen (traditional Japanese three string guitar) mini concert at the lounge nightly 3) both ocean and mountain view with weather permitting 4) relaxing onsen spa 5) souvenir/mini mart shop near lobby area Cons: 1) harder to sightsee on your own without a rental car, though walkable (15-20 minutes) to the nearest station, Ajigasawa, on the famous Gono Line. We managed to sightsee on our own on the second day by going north to Goshogawara first to take the Tsugaru Line, then going south to Fukaura using the Gono Line, but you need to pre-plan and check the time table very carefully because the train services are very limited. Would help if the hotel provides more detailed information for sightseeing such as free shuttle services etc. to Ajigasawa station along with the time table for example visible signs in multiple languages in the lobby area, more info in the room voucher, or might as well make use of the 90 minute shuttle ride to the hotel and/or simply ask and give us suggestions when we check-in.

Awone Shirakami Jyuniko

Surprisingly good!

Reviewed By KI-NRT

Awone Shirakami Jyuniko far exceeded our (our somewhat low) expectations. We went in thinking it would provide very rustic and basic accommodations, minimal service and cafeteria-style food. How wrong we were! While it's by no means a top luxury wilderness resort, Awone Shirakami Jyuniko ticks all of the boxes when it comes to having a comfortable and relaxing stay in a somewhat remote area. The cabins are rustic, but are spacious (separate bedroom and living room, and even a loft that has another bed) and decently furnished and appointed. It's country-style but not run down like many remote lodges that we've stayed at (especially in the U.S.) All of the basic amenities are on offer (towels, soap, shampoo, toothbrush/toothpaste, etc.) so this is more than a basic Air B&B style property. Our cabin was very close to the reception building as well as the restaurant (Akashobin) - a 2-minute walk, so quite convenient. There's also a gift shop that sells basic necessities as well as snacks on-site. There's also the convenience factor where you can park your vehicle right in front of your cabin. While the service from the staff are not super proactive and anticipatory, it's really not needed at a place like this (you will have hopefully done your homework prior to visiting a place like this.) They check you in and then you won't see any staff unless you go to the restaurant or need something at the store. Rooms are cleaned, and towels are refreshed daily. The grounds are well maintained and is a pretty sight, with mountains surrounding the area, perfectly manicured grounds and brightly-colored flowers planted throughout the premises... however, it's not overdone in a way that makes you feel like you're at Disneyland. Restaurant Akashobin was an absolute delight. While it's not Michelin-star quality and the service is a tad on the rushed side, we actually like how they dished out all of the offerings, pretty much at once (think Korean restaurant in this regard.) We were in and out in less than 75 minutes, which is great when you want to get to bed early to get a head start on the morning's activities. The number of dishes rivaled that of decent ryokans, and the quality of the food - while not super fancy - was top notch. Plenty of variety, fresh seafood and a few unique dishes thrown in for good measure. Given where Awone is located, it's a remarkable feat. Breakfast was also an enjoyable and hearty affair. It's buffet style (don't worry - everyone is required to mask up and wear lodge-supplied gloves while at the buffet area) with plenty of choices.. it's really a pretty decent spread, with a mixture of Western and Japanese choices. Let's just say you won't walk away hungry or unsatisfied. If there's one major nit to pick, it has to do with the lack of internet access in the cabins. I am aware of the remoteness of Awone, but nowadays, WiFi (at least in my opinion) has really become a bare necessity like electricity and running water. The fact that lodges in far more remote places (Africa, Alaska, etc.) can offer connectivity - even if it's not lightning fast - means that where there's a will there's a way. Ultimately, if you want to be in close proximity to the Juniko Lakes area, this is far and away the best choice. It's not like you will have many properties to choose from. But given that it offers solid accommodations, decent food and great value, Awone Shirakami Juniko should satisfy all but the most jaded luxury traveler.

Nice old world style onsen

Reviewed By P_kun55

Very tranquil and traditional style onsen/hotel. Pleasant boat shaped rotemburos (outside onsen). Onsen was full of locals which is always a good sigm. Easy walk from the station. Funny thing about walking around Ajigasawa was the extraordinary number of barber shops. Maybe something in the water makes hair grow quicker here.

Fantastic winter cabin camping

Reviewed By jakstisrn

We stayed at these cabins for a three day ski trip to Aomori Springs Ski Resort. The cabins are about a five minute drive from the ski resort. These cabins are worth every penny. The is a sink, small fridge and freezer, microwave, stovetop and rice cooker provided. There are also dishes for four and pots and pans. The loft was much larger than we anticipated. Our kids loved it up there. Several thick sleeping pads, pillows, blankets and down comforters made it a very cozy place to relax. The downstairs bedroom had two comfy beds with pillows and down comforters. The down comforters were amazing. We stayed warm each night even in the cold and heavy snowfall. The heater in our cabin was on point and kept the whole cabin comfortable. Great place to stay.
