Typical riad in the city center

When my dad and I arrived in Fes we were welcomed by Abdou who took us to the riad. His sister and mother are living in the riad and were very kind. Our room was nice but the towels and toilet paper were missing upon arrival and we had to ask them for it. The riad is located in a quiet little alley. However, there can be noise coming from the other rooms. The address given on booking.com and TripAdvisor is not correct and you should surely communicate with Abdou through WhatsApp. The breakfast was very nice and included eggs, muffins, homemade donuts and some type of salty pancakes, bread, cream cheese, olives, yoghurt, grapefruit or peach jam, green tea with fresh mint and coffee.

Dar Elbalia

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE

Reviewed By Mariana9900

When we arrived, the owner was smoking hashish while arguing with former guests who warned us that he had stolen some of their belongings. I was taken aback by the owner’s cheeky deeds and words, as he did not hesitate to resort to violence to kick out a female guest. There was no breakfast whatsoever on the second day as he had purposedly cut power so that we had no hot water to take a shower while we had paid for it; later on, he refused to proceed to the reimbursement of the breakfast. He took advantage of us being a large group to cheat on the number of beds available, as we learned upon arrival that double beds were meant to sleep 3, which is ridiculous considering the amount of money we paid for the place. Regarding the riad itself, it was absolutely humid and cold as there were no window in bedrooms/bathrooms, and walls were moldy. All in all, this place is super expensive for what it is and I’d stay away from such a disrespectful owner. DO NOT RECOMMEND.

Palais Bahia Fes

In the heart of the largest medina of all Morocco, Unesco Heritage, you find Riad Palais Bahia Fes, a luxury, stylish and comfortable Maison d' Hôte with Italian management. Palais Bahia is located in the most secret, genuine and picturesque area of Fes, called Arcife. The place dates back to 1700 when the ladies of Pasha used to occupy this building as their living court. Nowadays the place retains its architectural treasures intact. Palais Bahia offers one of the most stunning and breathtaking views of the Medina of Fes.

Calm amidst the chaos that is the Fes Medina

Reviewed By jsgiguere

Riad chosen because wanted something that's nice but inside the medina. Room: While the outside of the riad may look just like another building, once you walk through you're presented with a really nice courtyard with chairs and fountain, and to one side is the pool and bar area (and also where breakfast is). Believe there are about 10 rooms here in total. Very high ceiling and lots of space inside the room. Bed is clean and comfortable and there's no shortage of space to spread out your stuff. Shower water pressure is very good and all creature comfort items are there. Full marks. Location: As the riad is inside the medina, staff will tell you to get dropped off at the "Fez Parking Site for SAUL Students" (on Google Maps) and a staff member will meet you and walk you in (took about 10min). From the riad, you are about 10min walk to Place R'cif, one of the big open squares. Add another 5-10min to Chouara Tannery or Al Attarine Madrasa (so about 15-20min total from riad). To go from the riad all the way west to the Blue Gate (note: the second half of this journey will be uphill) is about 30-45min depending on how crowded it is. Incidentally the main bus station (Gare Routière Principale) is just 10min walk away from Blue Gate if you're coming in by bus - probably best to take a petit taxi to go around the medina to the other side and walk into the riad instead of through the medina... But in any case, no complaints about the location. Intangibles: Staffs went out of their way to help! From ensuring we were properly picked up initially, being able to get picked up after coming back from a late dinner, and all the smiles and greetings whenever possible, they made us feel like we were part of them, even if only for a few days.

Kasabah Senhaji

Very sympathetic when I became ill

Reviewed By Waterlooman2017

Moulay Idriss is a very traditional hillside small town, there are no conventional western style hotels. we wanted to stay somewhere near the Volubilis Roman town site and this fitted the bill. We had planned to stay two nights. We received a warm welcome and offered traditional mint tea. Our room was satisfactory, but the place was generally very cluttered. Unfortunately I caught a dose of the local version of Dehli belly, whether or not it was the result of eating something here I dont know. The food we ate was very good. We had to stay an additional night because of my illness. They were very understanding and helpful. Would I stay here again? Probably not, but you could do worse.
