Amanohashidate ryokan

Great location - right by the revolving bridge at the start of the Amanohashidate sand bar and a 5 min walk from the train station. Staff didn’t speak English - but we communicated well enough. Rooms are big and have access to a very nice garden. The food was excellent. Top notch kaiseki cuisine.

Very average

We stayed here during a motorcycle trip through Japan. Although the staff was very friendly and the views from the rooms stunning, the place was very dated. The carpet in my rooms looked so filthy I was too scared to walk barefoot and to top it off my room was a smoking room, which I find deeply unpleasant. I would have changed, but I'm not even sure there are any non smoking rooms available (you'll find that some older hotels in Japan do not offer a non smoking option). The only good thing about it was that it had been raining all day and we could finally dry up and have a hot shower.

Beautiful Atmospheric Ryokan

Reviewed By Roger_S6502014

This is what a ryokan should be. Dark wood, clean tatami rooms, delicious and well-presented food and an onsen bath with good atmosphere. The staff were also welcoming. I could feel the 300 years of history that this location has as an inn. Once merchants stayed here, and you could feel a bit of that history in this neighborhood. My only complaint is that the futon was on the harder side which isn't great for side sleepers. The location is also in a walkable neighborhood with some old homes and there is a bus nearby to take you to Amanohashidate. There are even rental cycles if you wanted to just travel up the coast that way (it's really not far- 30 min. walk or so). The JR station is about a 12 min. walk away.

If you consider that it is a homestay, then it is a good choice.

Reviewed By David_ytyeung

它不是高級日式旅館,更像一個家庭經營的民宿。如果接受到這點,從地點,房間,食物,整體保養還是不錯的,價格也算合理。 It is not a Japanese style ryokan, but a family-owned homestay. If you accept this, and you will understand the minimal service, and with shared toilets and bathroom. The homestay is close to the main train station, about 3 min walk. The room and the common space are clean and tidy. The homestay serves dinner and breakfast. They are local family dishes. The time that I come is the crab season, and my dinner also has half piece of crab which is delicious, despite the basic room plan. The down side is that the room does not naturally warm keeping as the windows do not double glazed, although heating is provided in the room, which is sufficient for 3'c when I come. It is also quite noisy sometime without double glazed windows, mainly due to train as it is located next to the train track. Since the train runs nearly one every hour and the last train leaves at 11pm, it does not affect sleeping quality quite a lot.
