Maya Chan Beach

Private beach resort for cruise ship passengers.

Maya Chan was an...interesting experience and I spent a long time deciding between a 4 and 5 rating. It is really not excellent, but maybe a 4.5? Several things beyond their control conspire against it, but the enthusiasm of the workers tipped me over into 5 range. First, the walk from the pier area is longer than I had imagined. It is an adventure to get out of the shops and entertainment area, but follow the directions and you will make it. You are headed toward the taxi area, if that helps. Keep going and go out of the pier area and keep walking. Men trying to sell their own tours were very nice and kept pointing us in the right direction. The check-in was easy when we finally got to the little shop and the taxi was adequate. The drive out was...interesting. The last miles of the 30 minute trek were the bumpiest I have been on since our adventure on the road to the zip lines in Monte Verde, Costa Rica. And that is saying something! Be prepared.
The people at Maya Chan were all very kind and attentive to us and we enjoyed the privacy of the palayas, the sand, the beach toys provided, the free wi-fi, the free-flowing drinks, and the delicious lunch. That being said, we could have used a bit less seaweed, less wind, warmer water, and no rain showers. But we were at a beach in March, so it was perfect!
Having done many of these "beach breaks," I find it very nice that payment is done before we arrive at the beach, the only extra charge is for a massage, and an optional tip is only collected as you leave for sharing by all employees. Much easier for all.

Maya, Lost Mayan Kingdom

In the midst of the Mayan jungle, find your adventure in the NEWEST Park in the Mexican Caribbean. Located in the sleepy fisherman village of Mahahual, Mayá, the Lost Mayan Kingdom, is a fun-filled day of zip lines, the thrill of the Kukulcan zip coaster, pools of natural water and the biggest water slides in Mexico!

We visited the Maya Lost Kingdom water park in Costa Maya in February 2018. We booked this excursion through our cruise ship, the Norwegian Pearl. It was actually $10 a person cheaper than booking directly with the park and we had free unlimited shuttle service to and from the pier. The park is only about five minutes from the pier. It's a great water park with multiple water slides of varying degrees of scariness! There is also three zip line courses. One is a roller coaster zip line that was a blast. All three courses end with you landing in a pool of water! An absolute blast of a day with a beautifully done park, great food and drink, very friendly and helpful staff. We will be back!!

Stayed there with my family, recently. We had an excellent time there. The waiter Sergio was very attentive and made sure we had everything we wanted. The guac that they make is great and massage is worth every penny. I highly recommend this place. It is a little way from the cruise port, but you get much more relaxed environment. There is a reef just outside the beach providing calm waters for your kids to play in. We had an awesome time there, I cannot recommend this place enough. The day we were there was a lot of seaweed but nothing that couldn't be dealt with.

Mahahual Beach

Reviewed By Kevin L - Pelham, New Hampshire, United States

When we were looking for some fun on this excursion, we decided to add some snorkeling to our beach adventure. Little did we know when we arrived that the wind would churn up the snorkeling area on this beautiful beach. We were advised at least 3x that the snorkeling would be rougher than normal due to the wind, current and waves. We stuck it out anyway. As a certified diver I will admit the snorkeling was meh as the silt was moving everywhere and sea life probably took a break during the rough morning/afternoon. We didn't see much but glad we gave it a go nonetheless. We settled in after fresh showers for our open bar, chairs on the beach and sun for the day. The bar was nice, bathrooms and pool we had access to. The nachos ordered from the connected restaurant were amazing. We ordered one with chicken and the other with beef and had a very nice snack. All in all a nice day. The street vendors were pushy but a firm "no thanks" was all that was needed. our guides for the trip did a good job and the transportation to and from the beach was short and uneventful. A nice option, assuming the snorkeling were better and it is.

Dolphin Discovery Costa Maya

My hubby and I were worried because of the negative reviews of this place, so much that I was considering cancelling our tour excursion booked through Royal Caribbean. SO glad we didn’t!
I am an animal lover, and immediately felt relieved that the staff here are dedicated to caring for, and protecting these beautiful mammals.
We did the dolphin encounter. Our trainer, Kevin, was absolutely incredible. He was entertaining, knowledgeable, great with the dolphin (Eros!), and great with us. Very funny, and an asset to their company.
We had a ton of time to pet and play with Eros. I thought we would get the chance to pet him once or twice, but our interactive session lasted a long time, and we got time to pet him several times, hugs, kisses (more than once!), and learned a great deal about dolphins.
Yes, the photos are expensive. But we ended up with Paula, who took so many beautiful photos, I paid the full price and went home with 3 photos printed, a CD of all our pics, and all the photos on my iPhone.
No complaints at all....truly one of the best experiences of my life!!!

Malecon

Reviewed By sunajocr - Chambly, Canada

we were shopping for a specific souvenir. we founded it but taught it was expensive. didn't say anything to the vendor and he already cut a third of the price. let me say, we buy souvenirs in each port we visit since we know that's their living but we can recognize a scam. going out of the place and the guy was half price... we waited at the cruise terminal and we had the same souvenir for a quarter of the price not bargained..
