Quite distant from the main street Italian/Swiss restaurants, we found O Caipira a very tasty change to the trout/pizza/fondue Monte Verde standard.
The Minas Cuisine dishes were very tasty served in large portions (soup, main course, desert).
We enjoyed the rustic pleasant atmosphere and the restaurant interior (though no heating was available)

Lots of sauce, huge meals, good polpetone, but with too much of everything in the plate. It could be more balanced. Also, the best wines could be better preserved in a cellar. Prices are a little over the top for wines specially, but the meals could have a better price even if it was to have a reduction on their portion sizes.

Good service, good food, quality ingredients. Compared with other restaurants we've been to, it really stands out. Deserves its #1 place (as of today).

Very good local beer featuring several options complemented with great German food. However, the outdoor environment and inattentive service do not favor couples. Consider it if you are in a group of friends.

The "rodizio" (all-you-can-eat) option is very good, the quality is good, the environment is nice, with candle lights and a fire place and the price is reasonable. A good experience.

We were in a large group, so the fact that they had a buffet helped. Very nice and competent service. The food is good and well priced. There was live music, which I don't usually like, but it was very good Brazilian music.

After a not very good experience in one of the fancier restuarants in Monte Verde, this place was a real tonic. Excellent service, very good pizza and good value: and a really nice family/locals feel to the place. Highly recommended.

We found the restaurant rather by accident as it is not located in the main street. This might be one of the reasons that they have to provide a better service as they cannot rely on walk-in customers.
Not being big fondue fans, we chose two types of pasta and were positively surprised. The pasta was home-made, fresh and delicious. The starter was pão de alho - with a lot of cheese, garlic and aioli served aside.
The service was perfect, the waiter even realized that we are Germans and poured the beer with a lot of froth :)

It’s almost impossible to resist having a slice of “cuca” cake (banana, apple and others). The smell of the cooking delicacy invades the corridor leading to the back of the place, full of small shops. Ask for a French Press coffee along with the cake or ginger biscuits. I bet you won’t manage to scape being lured by the sweet fragrance of the place.
