The Free State of Thuringia (English: /θəˈrɪndʒiə/; German: Freistaat Thüringen, pronounced [ˈfʁaɪʃtaːt ˈtyːʁɪŋən]) is a federal state in central Germany. It has an area of 16,171 square kilometres (6,244 sq mi) and 2.29 million inhabitants, making it the sixth smallest by area and the fifth smallest by population of Germany's sixteen states. Most of Thuringia is within the watershed of the Saale, a left tributary of the Elbe. The capital is Erfurt.

My wife and I visited here and took the German tour and I translated for her. The caves were beautiful and very cool. Good way to get out of the hot German summer!

The Park Cave consists of a system of tunnels beneath the Park on the Ilm which were originally excavated at the end of the 18th century for use as a beer brewery. Today the tunnels located twelve metres underground shed light on 200,000 years of geological and human history. A presentation room is available for events of all kinds.
