10 Top-Rated Villas in Honduras

May 2, 2023 Dorsey Hagwood

Laid-back, low-profile Honduras is one of Central America's largely unknown tourist destinations. A recent proliferation of domestic flights has opened up the Bay Islands and the major cities of La Ceiba, Tegucigalpa and San Pedro Sula. Buses, taxis and dug-out canoes provide other transport options. The Maya city of Copan is a UNESCO-designated heritage site with a ball court, an Acropolis and a Hieroglyphic Stairway. Other sights include El Cusuco National Cloud Forest Park, home to quetzal birds.

I really loved my experiences at Villas Pico Bonito! Even though it was a work retreat, I was able to enjoy a lot! The views at the lodge are lovely and it also has a very peaceful environment. Loved watching so many hummingbirds by the bar & restaurant. The rooms are very clean, I had the opportunity to stay at 2 different cabins and both were very clean, comfortable, and pretty, both with river view. The infinity pool is everything, I loved it! I also found the food delicious! It was a really nice and peaceful experience.

Good to stay if you only want to see the sunshine but not a luxury condo anymore

Reviewed By FamCantFu

Not a bad place to stay if you are looking after great sunshine’s views. The aftermaths and sunshines are incredible. The owner told me the day before to arrive that the building will have a major painting and maintenance jobs, however, we would appreciated that the owner had told us about the very bad condition of the condo. It is not a luxury condo anymore. The restrooms were rusty and with the tops broken. The pictures you are seeing is not that you will find. The TV turned on but didn’t showed any pictures only volumen, it didn’t has remote control neither. There was only one TV at the condo and didn’t work. The doors to the porch didn’t Locked up. Good WiFI connection at the condo. Security guard at the entrance and surveillance cameras. Roatan is a beautiful island to visit but you will need a taxi or rent a car.

For 13 years we have been travelling to Honduras visiting spots like Copan, Utila, Tegucigalpa, Comayagua, Trujillo, Roatan, always having Guanaja on our radar. This is the year we made it happen& we are so pleased we picked Guanaja Beach Hotel for our stay.! We arrived close to 35 minutes early on our flight with Lanhsa Air, we called Luis, who we had initially booked with, & within 10 minutes he appeared with our boat shuttle. He welcomed us & we were off! Upon docking we were handed cold coconuts brimming with water. The short walk to the hotel passing beautiful gardens was delightful! All the staff we encountered introduced themselves & let us know they were there to accommodate us & accommodate they did! From Andy the incredible chef to Dwayne the personable bartender- no one disappointed us in their customer service. We stayed in Villa del Rey-what an amazing spot! We had a beautiful king size bed equipped with a pretty mosquito net and our own private pool. Attention to detail was very well done & everything was clean, clean! We stayed 3 glorious days, food was fantastic, shared knowledge with pottery making was interesting and the informative & well planned tours were so much fun! We would highly recommend the Guanaja Beach Hotel to everyone and anyone looking for impeccable customer service. Thank you Luis, we shall return! Denise & Ole Canada

What a View

Reviewed By california_dreaming1

This was a wonderful property; spacious, great views, away from the crowds, and workable for us. The host was friendly, helpful, and so were all the guests at the villa. The ambience was great, as much privacy as one wanted with friendliness on tap. The nearby hotels were upscale but we didn't bother eating the one with the great reputation for dinner. We walked down the small road to the beach each day, and then along the beach to West Bay to snorkel. It was about a 30 - 35 minute walk. We crossed the access bridge without a problem. It is a high bridge so one has to be active and not be afraid of a little height (think high dive height). I appreciated all the excercise and the coral reef in West Bay was so worth it. The kitchen was very nice, with everything we needed to eat in each night (we did not rent a car). I advise stopping at the large supermarket near the airport upon arrival and buying everything one needs then since the smaller markets in West Bay and West End have limited supply and higher prices.

Stayed here during our visit to Tela and we are glad we did. The hotel is lovely and secure. There is some noise at night because it is within the town, as oppose to on the water front, but it is manageable. The breakfast was great - typical local style - as is the pool. AC/TV/etc... all functioning properly as well (AC a must).

Nightland Cabins at JadeSeahorse

Nightland sits on a hill beneath the caribbean sky, surrounded by old tamarind trees. Designed by an artist, the cabins reflect a unique architectural style inside and out. Gardens cascade down the hill toward the Jadeseahorse restaurant and Treetanic bar, an elevated ship's deck built between three huge mango trees. Utila welcomes you!

Great Location & People

Reviewed By AuntBug

We just got back from a 2 week stay at Oysterbed Lagoon. We stayed in a 2 bedroom/2 bathroom condo (1 bedroom has a King size bed and the other bedroom has 2 twin beds). I'm guessing it's about 1100 sq. ft. There is a lot of space. It may be the only handicap accessible place to stay on the island, so if that is a need for you, you found your place. You can tell these condos are set up for short term stays. They have the BASIC essentials (eg: plates, cups, pots, pans, coffee pot, blender, silverware, towels, bedding). There is a washer/dryer, which can help you cut down on the amount of luggage you bring! There is a pool, almost oceanfront, which is also a great item for those on vacation. We didn't use the a/c at all but it is there (and it is not central air, so you can individualize the temperature in each room) - between the ocean breeze and the ceiling fans there was no need. It even got a little chilly at night (it would of been nice to have a blanket for the bed). One recommendation for those of you looking for a place to stay - make sure you bring your DEET! The condo is built over mangroves. There are a lot of sand flies and no-see-um's. As long as there is a breeze there is no problem, but when the breeze goes away, the bugs come out. Overall, loved the place! The people who work here are the best. It was comfortable, close to town (but far enough away from the party people), and solidly built. Would definitely stay here again.
