FABULOUS

Reviewed By smoothysa

We had a very long trip down from Kandy and arrived at Villa 46 mid afternoon, the staff welcomed us with a smile and a fresh ice cold drink. They quickly got our luggage into our upstairs room. The room is spacious and exquisitely decorated with sliding doors leading out onto the balcony. The pool and restaurant area leads onto a small stretch of lawn from where you can access the beach directly. The staff catered for our every need, always with a chat and a huge smile, seemed like nothing was too much to be asked! We requested a seafood platter for our final evening and with our breakfast they confirmed exactly what we wanted and it was one of the best meals of our trip! If you’re looking for a quiet, affordable luxury get away this is the place to go!

Amazing place to stay

Reviewed By judithsP2444GJ

Absolutely wonderful villa. We stayed for three nights in the suite with terrace. The owner is a great guy who was very welcoming and helpful with any requests. He speaks perfect english and german and can also help with arranging tours. The room was big and clean with great facilities including kettle, fridge and hairdryer. Everything is done at really high standard. The room was very quiet, all one can hear is the birds and squirrels. Breakfast was fabulous and the staff were friendly and happy. Another amazing thing about the villa is that wildlife (peacocks, monkeys, mongooses, …) can be watched right from the balcony. The pool is great too and the beach is only 5min away, although for surfing it’s another 15min walk up the beach. While there wasn’t a generator yet (for the frequent powercuts) when we stayed there, the owner has ordered one which should be in place by now.

Not one of the worst, but the worst place I have been to! Unless you like wasting money book another property.

Reviewed By samad909

Booking handler - Mr Sean Mohinudeen If the property owner is seeing this review we suggest taking strict action, to know why keep reading! TL;DR Not one of the worst, but the worst place I have been to! Unless you like wasting money book another property. All the discussion with the booking handler can be proved through WhatsApp screenshots. 1. There is barely any mobile reception (Carrier tested - Dialog, the largest carrier in Sri Lanka!) and the wifi offered is slower than dialup! 2. No functioning generator even though confirmation was given prior to the booking. 3. Only one person handling the property as the chef, cleaner etc. 4. The person handling the property who was also our chef, he didnt cater to our requirements and lied. 5. Was asked to check in late while being offered late check out, however we were forced to leave earlier than promised on the check out day. More details, While travelling to the property and being half way there we were asked to check in late if possible and would in return be given a late checkout (4 PM) on our day of departure. We agreed and killed about 2-3h idling around at the service center. On the day of checkout the booking handler called us and asked us to leave at 12 PM, after a lot of arguing we were able to convince him to give us time till 2 PM. Due to the long power cuts in Sri Lanka, before making the reservation we checked if there was a generator for basic needs (lights/fans) and were given the confirmation. After reaching the property the caretaker told us that the generator was not functioning. When we contacted the booking handler he said he will fix or replace the generator, but nothing was done throughout our stay. It is a shame that the properties next to us had power during the power cut! For a property of this size you need at least 2 people to maintain it, when we reached the property there was only one person who was in charge of everything including cooking, cleaning etc. After speaking to him we realized that he was the chef and there was no one else to help him around, we felt pretty bad for the chef because he had an issue with his leg and was limping. We had provided the menu we wanted cooked 2 days before checking in as it was a requirement. After checking in the chef had no idea what we wanted and we provided the menu to him, no biggie. We asked him to certain brands (halal meat) from a supermarket that was just 100 meters from the property. The chef left and when he returned he told that that brands we asked for not available at that supermarket and that he will have to travel to Galle by Tuk to get them and that would cost Rs 1500. We were in the holiday mood so we agreed without checking the supermarket next door ourselves. The chef returned from Galle with the meat, but it was brought in a polythene bag so we had no way of identifying if the meat was halal. The next day we visited the supermarket next to us and noticed that they had multiple different brands of halal meat available, we had taken the chef with us and you could see the guilt on his face about having lied. For one of the meals we had asked for a very simple local dish (egg hoppers), but the chef didnt know how to prepare it. Instead of asking us what to do about this, he bought food from outside about 3-4h before the meal and served it to us. This dish has to be served fresh or it doesnt taste good. Having your own chef doesnt make sense if this is the sort of service that is to be expected. On the second day of our stay we wanted our rooms cleaned, but keeping in mind that only one person was handling everything we were considerate and asked the person in charge to provide us with fresh sheets and towels so we could clean the room on our own, but they didnt have extra sheets or towels! Any decent property has a mobile signal booster when they know that mobile reception is bad or at the very least they offer decent wifi. There is barely any mobile reception (Carrier tested - Dialog) inside the property, it is so bad that you cannot even call let alone use mobile data. The wifi offered is slower than dialup!

Lovely, cozy and just perfect

Reviewed By elizabeth932018

Went there for a brief vacation with my friends and this place was perfect for us. since it has very large room space and dinning and lounge area it feels like home. Perfect if you want to relax and enjoy the vacation. Besides it's walking distance to train station and the main bus stop and located in the heart of the Hikkaduwa city. Walking distance to the beach and many other restaurants and shops. Home owner lady is very kind and helpful too. We were able to cook as it was a well equipped kitchen. I surely will go there again whenever I go to Sri Lanka again. That place is simply lovely and one will not regret staying there.

The cabana room is cosy and perfect for couples. The cleanliness is flawless. The outside space is very enjoyable with frangipani trees and facing the (road!) and the see. I highly recommend this place for futur travellers that I hope are comming for the tourism business ...
