Beautiful boutique hotel

Reviewed By 150harys

Casa Coson is a very quiet and romantic boutique hotel. They have only a few rooms, so it is not crowded there. The beach and the garden are really beautiful. Staff is very friendly and the restaurant on the premises is also very good. Just be aware that the restaurant is closed on mondays.

Nope, never again

First of all everyone should know this place is not on the beach as some have stated. The attached picture is the view from the rooftop terrace I reserved the balcony room and when I checked in was told I couldn’t have it. The room I was given was windowless, the wifi is non existent and the sheets felt like they hadn’t been washed in weeks. I made the mistake of asking for extra towels and was told “no only two towels per day.” Even though the reason I needed the extra towels was to clean up the water on the floor from their faulty shower. The pool is the size of an oversized jacuzzi and the rooftop terrace was always full of trash. I stayed there one night of my five night reservation and changed hotels. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of this hotel.

Nice room, bad location

Reviewed By Eszter_10

Our experience in this hotel was not the most pleasant one. It was not that much because of the hotel, than due to the location. We spent here one night, because our flight was delayed, but we felt lucky that we did not have to spend the whole vacation here. We expected the place to be directly on the beach, but it was not right there. The beach was within reasonable distance (about 5 minutes walk), but you have to walk along noisy and dirty streets. Streets where you do not want to walk alone as a woman. The beach was also not so nice, not the sort of beach where you can relax and enjoy the view. If you want to relax, be close to nature and find some peace during your vacation, you should rather opt for a resort. Now the good part: the room was ok, clean and well equipped. The bedsheets and towels were also clean. The girls at the reception were nice and flexible, they even offered us the possibility to have a view at first on our room and make the payment afterwards, because they were willing to change our rooms if we wanted so. But the place is rather noisy, it was difficult to get a good sleep. If you want to be close to nightlife, and do not like too quite places, then this hotel might be a good fit for you.

A very different Dominican experience

Reviewed By Adcastiv

First of all, be aware this is neither the typical geography nor the typical weather of the Dominican Republic. This place is not about the Caribbean heat, sun and beaches. My wife and I were tired of the beach, since in the two previous months we had been in resorts in Punta Cana and Puerto Plata. So, for this occasion we decided something more in touch with Mother Nature. We chose three places in the Jarabacoa area and started calling them. Out of the three chosen places, Rancho Tierra Alta was the only one to respond our phone call. And it was providential! We didn’t take our car because the area is full of high hills and the road is not the safest. We took a Caribe Tours bus to Jarabacoa (350.00 Dominican pesos each) and then a taxi to the place (500 Dominican pesos). To me, the place was like a dream, like being in one of those films where people stay at a log cabin in the forest. Now, the deal is choosing the superior room. The others are ok, but this one doesn’t compare to nothing else. It is spacious, with a balcony, a king size bed, and a twin size bed in a corner, a sofa, bathroom and a big closet (that should had been cleaned more often, although we didn’t need it). There is also a Tv set and Wi Fi. The areas of this place (meaning the entrance, the living room, the dining room, the superior bedroom, etc) are decorated with such a good taste that being anywhere makes you fill nice, peaceful, and comfortable. Now, sitting at the balcony of the superior room, having some wine while eating a chocolate bar hand made by the women of Puerto Plata, (you can only get those at Nacional supermarket) and contemplating the view of the surrounding forest with lots of tall pine trees swinging in the breeze, and the far away lights of the city down in the valley … that’s something! I just couldn’t help thinking that’s the kind of place some famous novelists and composers used to retire to write their masterpieces. The service people were great, very nice and discrete. We ate their food and it had good taste.

Worse hotel, dirty, no water in room, no room service, reception unpolite,

Reviewed By fcapellan2016

We reserved our room for one night, the next day, in the morning, we told reception, that we were going to stay for another day, they said ok, everything was set for us to stay, we started our journey around the town, and they called us that they gave our room to another guest, to go back and pick up our stuff, we had to suspend our trip to go back to the Hotel. also, beds were not clean, room service none, at night there was no water in the room, we had to keep calling reception, stuff was very unprofessional, we spoke to reception a few times, and nobody really care, reception kept saying that the Hotel owner gave our room to another guest and there was nothing they can do, this was the only hotel that look like the perfect place to stay, but if you check carefully you will find dirty bed sheet, they tell you that the room was clean, yes with the same bed sheet from the last guest before you, hair all over the bed.

extraordinary hosts, problematic location

Reviewed By Ann M

Noemi and Jonathan have crafted an unusual retreat on a steep, jungly hillside. They are remarkably kind and thoughtful people who can hold their own in sophisticated circles worldwide. The food ranges from passable to distinguished and is served with a smile. ..The place is blissfully quiet. But for me there were significant negatives: it's a very steep walk or drive down to the main road and 2 1/2 miles to the nearest beach, which is a very nice one, Cala Lima. As someone who came to the DR for the beaches, it was just too far. There is also very little walking possible on the property itself: everything is stairs and terraces. Finally the rooms them selves are open to sounds both from other rooms and the environment. The grounds were a little too well lit at night for restfulness but I understand the need for safety given all the stairs. I am glad I visited this unusual place and met Noemi and Jonathan, but after three nights it was time to go to stay by the beach. Extra thanks to the hosts for arranging my airport pick up by a terrific driver, Amaury Mancebo.

We’d never been to the Dominican Republic before so didn’t know what to expect. We stayed a few nights in Punta Cana, which was nice, but going to Barahona and saying at Oasi with Antonio and his team exceeded all our expectations. What an amazing location, with beautiful scenery and beautiful people. Antonio was simply fabulous and catered to all of our needs. The staff were attentive at all times and the cocktails were incredible. We will 100% be returning, Antonio and his team have treated us like family, and we can’t wait to see them all again in such wonderful place, you have our hearts. Nicola xxxx
