A Dream on Koh Samui

Reviewed By juergenz923

Only a good flight hour from the lively capital Bangkok and a 30 km long transfer, a unique dream world on the Gulf of Thailand awaits you. Away from the tourist hustle and bustle in the north of the island of Koh Samui, InterContinental operates a small hideaway here with less than 80 units (rooms, suites, villas). The entire hotel complex is scattered over a hill and enjoys a fantastic view of the islands of the Gulf of Thailand and the surrounding palm-covered island of Koh Samui. Due to the size of the hotel, individual service is almost guaranteed. Our longer stay at this resort was made very pleasant by a more than generous upgrade to a comfortable villa. This was furnished with everything you can expect from a luxury hotel today. The air conditioning also worked flawlessly. To the beach or to the main building you were brought on request with a buggy, which was extremely pleasant due to the hilly location of the hotel complex. Several villas of the complex also have their own small swimming pool. We had the choice between the main pool by the sea or one of the smaller pools scattered throughout the complex, which are available to every guest. Of particular note with all the pools is that the surrounding areas are provided with non-slip tiles, which greatly contributes to the safety of guests. It is particularly noteworthy that the hotel has provided many of the plants on the site with a small sign to familiarize themselves with the name of the trees and shrubs and other details. A great idea! The Club InterContinental, to which we had access, is set up in the open lobby with guaranteed panoramic views and also includes a smaller enclosed space, which is relatively poorly air-conditioned and therefore not particularly inviting. The range of food and drinks in the Club area was outstanding during our stay. Smaller hot dishes were also available. Breakfast was taken in the main restaurant below the Club InterContinental. The service was always very personal and accommodating. The level of food and drinks, their presentation and the wealth of variations corresponded to the high standards of the house. Overall, the guest at IC Koh Samui can expect a very individual service. Not only the friendliness and effectiveness of the entire staff of the house contributes to this, but also and above all the omnipresence of the General Manager Tibor Horvath, who personally exemplifies the high level of service. For this we would like to thank all the employees we met.

Literally Paradise

Stayed here for 4 nights as part of our honeymoon. We were looking for something quiet and relaxing and this was just perfect. Lovely big and clean rooms with a beautiful view. The pool is just like something out of a dream and the staff was so attentive and sweet. Only two minor downsides: internet was not very reliable and the restaurant and bat close quite early. But this was not enough to give it less than 5 stars, I mean you can always find something to complain about. So this was pretty much perfection.

Boho-Lux Beachfront Resort in Bophut

Reviewed By devdoowa

Hansar, Koh Samui is a 5-star beachfront resort with exceptional service minded staff, great food, boho-lux architectural design elements and an outstanding luxury spa. Service – The phrase that comes to mind when thinking back at the staff of Hansar is ‘super friendly’. From check-in to check-out every encounter with the staff members (namely Bob, Leo, Angel, and Ing) was so warm and friendly. Special thanks to Khun Ford who was truly exceptional. Our interactions evoked a feeling of nostalgia like visiting relatives after a long time away. They served a refreshing bottle of butterfly pea flower upon check-in which was lovely. The check-in process was fuss-free, smooth and efficient. Service at breakfast was also highly commendable. One particular staff noticed that a fly had sat on a slice of bread from the egg menu item just as she was about to serve the dish. She then looks at me and says, “Sorry I’m unable to service this because it doesn’t meet the standards.” This attention to detail was quite remarkable. Location – Being in the center of Bophut, we thoroughly enjoyed the freedom of being able to step-out of the resort and explore the unassuming streets of the Fisherman’s Village. Luckily, we were there on the weekend and could visit café’s, awesome nightlife vibes, and some shopping of local designers in unique boutique outlets along the quaint streets. We were literally located in the heart of town while returning to the calmness of our dreamy bohemian-themed abode. Accommodation – We stayed in their luxurious 75 sqm Seaview XL suite which featured a four-poster bed with romantic muslin drapes, a large stone bathtub, a dreamy king-sized bed and a large outdoor balcony. Our room number was #1302 on the third floor with unparalleled views of the main pool and sea. The highlight of the room was definitely the massive panoramic balcony with a very comfortable outdoor sofa bed. We enjoyed the airy breeze while listening to waves caressing the shoreline the mornings and evenings. This was also a perfect spot for some morning mediations to start the day. Other room features included a large LCD TV, high speed wifi, double sinks in the bathroom and a rain shower with consistent water temperature. Throughout the stay, the wifi signal was strong and stable. We were able to connect our android stick and enjoyed some Netflix shows with no issues. Spa – The “Luxsa” spa is a sanctuary for the senses. As we seated ourselves, they presented us with the various massage oil options which included 4 elements: earth, water, air and fire. They all had a unique scent which evoked various healing properties. Our 60-minute massage flew by. The masseuses were extremely professional and applied the right amount of pressure which made for an excellent treatment. It was so relaxing, I fell asleep even though I tried my level best to stay awake throughout the treatment. Prior to leaving, I noticed various certificates and accolades the Award-Wining Spa has won and wasn’t surprised. We were relaxed, rejuvenated and ready for our next adventure. Private Dining by the Beach – We opted for their private dining experience by the beach. The hotel staff decorated a wonderful table which was a perfect setting for a romantic, dreamy sunset celebratory dinner. Some of the food options included a pumpkin soup, tuna tartar, grilled seabass and mango sticky rice for dessert. Each dish was very well made and tasty. We especially enjoyed their grilled sea bass which was very fresh and the mango sticky rice! When in Thailand, the mango sticky rice is not to be missed. Breakfast – The H-Bistro Restaurant features large open doors (and windows) facing the beachfront making this venue a perfect spot to start the day. The buffet breakfast had a great variety of both international and local dishes. We appreciated their egg menu which shows some level of invention especially their Florentina eggs featuring perfectly poached eggs, a hollandaise sauce, brown bread, crab stick, avocado and prawn. Yum! Other facilities – A lot of our time was spent chilling by their large infinity saltwater pool which is located a few steps from the beach. We enjoyed a chilled coconut while relaxing on the sun day beds. The swimming pool also featured a sitting area and jacuzzi jets which was a perfect spot to unwind and relax. Moving between the pool and sea waters every few ours was a luxury given the close proximity to the beach. We also noticed that they had both table tennis and a pool table although we didn’t get to it because we were too busy relaxing. It was easy to lose track of time here. The Hansar Samui was able to combine both luxury and superior service within a beachfront setting in the heart of Bophut. The resort also masterfully balances its natural architectural design elements with a modern flair. This option presents good value for money and we cannot commend the team here more than enough for their genuine Thai hospitality. Thank you Khun Tee for truly making this a memorable stay and we will be back in the near future!

All resorts have the same problem. Beer and other drinks are pricier food too in pool area. Breakfast is limited version due Covid situation. Overall it is very quiet in Samui. Great Location

Reviewed By cwaddell27

I spent 4 days staying here while exploring Koh Tao. The location is good, with a beach on one side and some great snorkelling on the rocky side. You will likely need to rent a scooter to get around the island easily - which you can easily rent straight at the resort, starting at 250 Baht a day (just be aware the hill down is rather steep, but easily manageable). Some nice views from the room (could watch sunrise from my bed). And pickup/dropoff from the port was appreciated too. As others have said there are lots of hills/stairs, so probably not ideal if you aren't able to walk easily. Food was decent for the price, but a scooter ride into town for more food options wasn't too far. It did feel like it was in need of a refresh/minor renovations (which is understandable after likely a couple of years without many customers), but could see some renovations/construction already going on in places. I did notice not all rooms were in use, so are probably still getting back into fully operating again. But overall was a good stay and staff were friendly and helpful.

A hotel that must have been nice a few years ago - but not anymore…

Reviewed By LucieK79

Super cute hotel with nice bungalows, set in the jungle, friendly staff at the breakfast - BUT: the hotel suffered a lot during Covid and it seems that they haven‘t gotten back to the condition before, the wood was rotten at many places, our room was not clean (toilet brush must be 5 years old), the breakfast was the whole stay (9 nights) the same, the staff at reception desk was not very helpful, the fitness room (under construction) was moved to the yoga studio, super dirty room - no towels, no desinfection, a lot of dirt in the jungle setting (no gardener and facility manager is taking care), also there is construction going on at the beach which gives noice during the day, the beach is ok, but there are other more beautiful beaches around the island We know that Covid hit the whole place. But the hotel management (owner) could have done construction work during lockdown. But it seems that it was not done a thing. This is very sad because the hotel could be very nice. The setting is super cute and very authentic. But now a lot is rotten and nature is taking back. It used to be one of the best hotels on the island. Unfortunately we would not stay there another time :-( It breaks our hearts that the hotel is mismanaged so badly.
