This hotel must be the biggest building in Shimanto City, with 10 floors. It’s super easy to find - right next to the communications tower and close to the outdoor shopping mall. Inside it’s calm and quiet. The rooms are plenty spacious enough, with crisp sheets and thick towels. AC works great. Only complaint would be the small pillows, just one per person, but that’s standard here in Japan. The breakfast buffet was top notch with a blend of Japanese and western options.

Our hotel is surrounded by beautiful nature. Please enjoy the beautiful scenery of Shimanto River,Pacific Ocean, and fresh air.
Location is peaceful, close to ocean. Hotel itself looked fine, even artistic. However, the room was tired, dated, old. It appears to be 40 year old everything in the room. Decently maintained, but old. WiFi does not reach the room. Onsen was ok. Meals were ok, below average.

We strive to meet the needs of all our guests, and offer six types of rooms to choose from.Rooms are fully stocked with amenities for our guests’ convenience, and further items are available on request.Shimanto Sun River is located 8 minutes on foot from Nakamura Station, served by the Tosa Kuroshio JR Line, and is well-suited to tourists doing sightseeing in both the Shimanto and Ashizuri areas. There is also a souvenir shop next to the hotel, making it a convenient location whether you are traveling for business or sightseeing.
Pros: - spacious room - very comfortable bed for a business hotel - very clean and new - large free parking lot - right next to big souvenir shop and restaurant - great shampoo and conditioner bar to pick what you like Cons: - for the price you pay and what you get, I really don't have any bad things to say

Hotel in the middle of Shimanto river valley. Very nice staff, could organize transport from and to train station. In the evening they offer guided (only in Japanese) night star viewing by telescope, remember to reserve it at reception. We had Japanese style room which was really nice with beautiful view on the river. Hotel offer indoor nice onsen, but with view to mountains and Shimanto river. In village limited dining option, not open each day.

在四萬十川旁,離佐田沈下橋5分鐘車程,跟汽車的GPS由市區走過來挺危險的,走441路再經上崎神社去旅館比較安全。吃的不錯,室外風呂不怎樣,早上在附近走走挺舒服的。

The ryokan is located on the 2nd floor of a building on the edge of town. It is a good 15 minutes walk to town (although there's not much in town). However, it is only 5 minutes walk to a big supermarket where you can pick up breakfast (which is not offered at the ryokan). There's limited free parking space opposite the ryokan. The in-room wifi was strong. However, there's no hair dryer anywhere and no kettle in the room, you have to ask reception for water. The room was quite big and neat with a wash basin.

Shimanto River is serene. We stayed at Shimanto Gakusha, which was a guest house converted from an abandoned primary school. We stayed there for kayaking, which was a great experience for us. The water was clear and cool, and the kayaking tour was relaxing. The guide was very helpful, and he took photos for us along the way. In the evening, we had BBQ, which was also very good. However, people working there seem unable to speak English. You may need a Japanese friend to help with your booking. When we were there, the host used Google Translate to communicate with us, which was fine.

We stayed here in the spring and couldn't have had a better trip, the mixture of cherry blossoms, warm spring days, and sipping coffee while overlooking the river meeting the ocean were unforgettable. It's quiet and remote, which is probably exactly what you're looking for. It's a taste of true Japanese hospitality, with great food and even better people: Marcelo, who spoke great English, and got everything picture perfect for our stay, even recommending sites that only locals knew about, and Hiro, who cooked delicious food with fish caught right outside and even better chocolate cake. If you're looking to unplug from city life, and see the milky way while listening to cicadas, stay here. If you're looking to listen to wind rustle through bamboo leaves as wave crash along the shore, stay here. If you want to sit in your private onsen while overlooking the light show of the eel fishermen on the river at night, stay here. I'll be back, because I don't think I can stay away for long.
