JUST AN OK HOTEL BUT COULD DO BETTER

Reviewed By bob1323

Unlike the other hotels we stopped in during our tour of Sri Lanka, this hotel was not that welcoming when we arrived - it was a luke warm reception. After the normal check in we were taken over to our rooms, but just pointed where they were. The rooms are huge, bit like a suite but unfortunately dated and grubby - stained sofas etc., (and all on our tour found the same), things not working properly, just generally a bit shabby and run down. I had a problem with my room as the air con was not working and was 30 degrees (was cooler outside with the breeze). I contacted reception who sent an engineer over and he couldn't do anything and seemed to think that given time it would be ok, but as I pointed out it had not changed in an hour. He said give me 5 mins after I said I wanted another room - after 15 I got fed up and went back to reception and saw someone else - they did get another member of staff who accompanied me back and asked for 5 mins to get the room ready - took quite a bit longer as think they had to make up the room. It was better but the air con was still not working very well and had to rely on the fan in the room - the other rooms the people on the tour said they had similar problems. Meals were fine. It looks like it was a great place at one time but is showing its age and is in need of some TLC to get it back to what it was and proper functioning air con is a must.

One of a kind!

You feel so connected with nature here. On some mornings when I opened the doors of our bungalow, there was a donkey family right nearby our lounge deck and I would just sit there for a moment and watch them peacefully graze. The resorts location right next to a lagoon and the open sea is one of a kind and with all that space around your bungalow you can enjoy a lot of calm and privacy. And if you’re looking for some action, there is so much to see and do within or around the elements premises in addition to kitesurfing: an ox carriage ride to the nearby village, horseback riding on the beach or the dolphin watching tour, where my husband and son got to see schools of spinner dolphins jumping out of the water. The friendly and charming staff is from the surrounding villages and their good team spirit was noticeable to us every day. And the food! The chefs really went above and beyond with their creations, every breakfast and dinner felt like a surprise. It was always local and fresh and always wonderfully tasty. And one morning even with a twist from the oven: freshly baked chocolate croissants! There is so much heart put into this wonderful place, it really feels like home away from home!

Amazing beach retreat

Reviewed By Louise S

we stayed for two nights ,this was the first place we stayed on our two week tour of Sri Lanka. The tented bungalows are brilliant, equipped with efficient air-con and fabulous outdoor bathrooms. The food was amazing and really was some of the best we had on our whole trip. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we enjoyed chatting to the chef about his food. We did the dolphin trip and saw about 50 dolphins and the kids enjoyed the donut ride. The pool area was clean and plenty of fresh towels were provided. We enjoyed the covered seating areas, watching the sunsets with great cocktails! We all had massages with Lilli which were amazing and very reasonable. We will certainly return and would highly recommend a visit.

Went to see leopards, saw them, so 5-star!

Reviewed By FoodieOswestry

We were only there for two nights with a safari into the reserve the afternoon of arrival and a second the next morning and having had a similar experience in India were not expecting the Ritz style accommodation. The whole purpose of the visit was to see the wildlife and in particular, the leopards, so 5-star accommodation was not at the top of the priority list. Our driver was excellent as was the ‘spotter’, one of the chefs who was not needed at the time, and our wildlife expert was just that, very knowledgeable and with eyes like a hawk! We saw not one but three leopards on our first outing with one sitting quite quietly right out in the open as can be seen from the picture. Whilst this was the highlight there were too many other animals and birds to list them all. The tent we had was perfectly adequate, not 5-star but OK for a couple of nights, a living room, a separate bedroom and loo and shower all set in its own area reached by a path to it, and it alone. It was very humid in the tent but a large fan kept the bedroom at a reasonable temperature and my wife and I, on the first night, had the best night's sleep we had had since arriving in the country. Hot water was a luxury at times but as it was very hot and very humid, a tepid to cool shower was rather refreshing. The food was campfire style, actually from a barbecue, but served to the table, complete with a white tablecloth and napkins, which made one feel a bit like Rhodes of Rhodesia even if the meals were not the greatest we have ever had! I cannot speak to the value for money as the stay was simply part of a nearly month-long journey around Sri Lanka so I have no idea how much any one element cost.

Wonderful stay with beautiful surroundings, accommodation, hosts and food!

Absolutely perfect stay.. Our hosts Roshan and Madhu couldn't have been friendlier.. Nothing was too much trouble at all. I'm quite a plain eater and Madhu cooked our meal to suit this for me and my husband had Sri Lankan dishes for our evening meal.. The setting for dinner is very relaxing and enables you to just chill out and take it all in. Roshan explained to us about the safari the next day and what would happen etc.. We paid around £130 for a deluxe room.. Full Sri Lankan buffet Full days safari with guide and jeep to ourselves 6am until 6pm.. Breakfast and lunch packed up to take on the safari which was delicious.. Omelettes.. Rotti.. Sweet pancakes and then dhal and coconut sambal for breakfast and fresh grilled chicken breasts and vegetables for lunch. Plenty of water and drinks are provided also. The safari guide although he didn't speak much English we understood what he was saying and wanted us to do etc. It was a great adventure. Our room was very luxurious with a huge comfortable bed.. Nice powerful shower and TV too. Verandah looked out onto the huge gardens as in the pictures. The couple spoke to us in length after dinner which was lovely and a chance to find out some information about the country and do and don'ts! But equally nice to sit and talk to a lovely couple about life! We wouldn't hesitate to go back and stay if we were in the area again and I have no doubt that they would remember us as they are a very attentive couple. Thank you both for our wonderful stay.. I also have to mention our blue tooth connection in our car. We had tried for a few days to connect it up and Roshan managed to do it.. Took him about 30 minutes but he was determined and in the end sorted it!! Special thanks as we now have our music to travel around this beautiful island!

I planned to spend one week here, but ended up staying for two. The atmosphere is great and the staff is so friendly. The pool is a really nice feature and there are always the most incredible sunsets. There are lots of great birds here that can be spotted from inside the resort and also from kayaking around the lagoon. The food here is also sooo good (especially if you love seafood/ want traditional Sri Lankan food)! I highly recommend staying here next time you are in Sri Lanka :)

Best place to go in Sri Lanka

Reviewed By N3587ZBmiriamc

No words can describe this place properly. But I try it anyway. For us it was the best experience in whole Sri Lanka! My friend and I stayed there for 5 Days. Here you can have everything. Total relaxation just on the site (because there literally is everything you need, and if not they get it for you ;-)) or a lot of different tours which you can book with the hosts and go either by boat directly from the Jetty or by tuktuk directly from the property. There are tours to go through the mangroves by boat, a tour to watch dolphins (we've seen like hundreds), a tour to go to Wilpattu Nationalpark to do a safari, a beach tour, a Massage, Yoga on the property and so on... You really don't need to think about anything and you don't need to plan anything. Actually we had no plans when we came here and no idea what to do there but they got everything planned perfectly you just need to choose what you want to do one day ahead. Everything really was so comfortable we felt even better than at home. The rooms were perfectly clean and the interior nicely decorated. I loved the shower the most, cause you can look at the stars while showering <3. The hosts try to avoid garbage and especially plastics which made me very happy because I try to avoid plastics in my life too. And on top of all is the outstanding kitchen. The food there is amazing! We had the Sri Lankan dinner every day and it was something totally different each evening. So we could learn a lot about Sri Lankan cuisine. And if you like to drink a cocktail or something else, just ask for it they try to make it work. This place literally is Paradise! I can totally recommend it if you are looking for some quiet days or especially for honeymoon. You might think the prices are higher than at other places, but let you be told it is definitely worth it. You get much more than what you are paying for! This hospitality and kindness of the staff, the deep relaxation you get there and just the whole experience there in the middle of nowhere between the mangroves is a experience worth more than you can buy with money. I really hope to come back someday. Wish you all the best!
