Short visit

The hotel is perfect for short stay in the town. Within the parking lot you can find a 7/11 shop, so easy to buy anything. They serve for breakfast not just Japanese dishes, but meal which fit to the Europeans. The room was well equipped and cleaned daily.

Nice Scenery

Reviewed By Bestlambert

The hotel was located in the center of a serene Onsen town. My families and I stayed here by the end of the autumn, so the scenery with maple leaves were awesome. It was also great to take a short walk around the town in the early morning. However, the Onsen of the hotel was relatively small. Besides, the outdoor one was literally just a small pond facing a bunch of trees. Personally I would prefer outdoor Onsen to have views. Having said that, the hotel was clean and cozy. The service was superb. I would definitely consider coming back.

Nice place, but a bit overpriced at $130 for single stay... it is high This place is more then 30 years old, but well kept. Rooms are clean and a great onsen, but the price it a bit too high. Should be not more then a $100 for a single stay.

Old yellow business hotel

Reviewed By Bob J

Stayed at the Select Inn for a couple of nights on a business trip to the area. The outside of the hotel is like a bright yellow beacon. The inside is a bit more dreary and it's evident that it has seen better days. The breakfast buffet in the basement was quite good. There is not a lot nearby, but it's very convenient for Nishi-Nasuno station.

I should have stayed at Kashiwaya Ryokan

Reviewed By Canmaninjapan

The title says it all, and two stars is being kind. The place should be shut down, unfortunately. Too little maintenance done and too much needed. On a one month road trip, this place was our only disappointment. Yes, the use of the private bath and the Cyress bath were nice...and yes, dinner was adequate inthe sense that they, the staff, tried to do what they could, but, yuck. Too old, like a pro athlete in their last year, it is time to retire. Shiobara has a lot of nice hot springs. The second night there we stayed at Kashiwaya Ryokan , a family run, older hot spring inn that had many private baths, excellent friendly service, and peaceful location. It wasn't fancy and some might call it "rough", but the place had an awesome ambiance and I will surely go again. I should have stayed there for both nights. Sorry.

Fantastic visit to the real Japan

Reviewed By SimonL2790

I have been to Japan more than 12 times and this is the best place. So I went with my parents, siblings and my son. In total 6 adults and 2 baby/toddler (ages 0-2). Part of the family got our own house 5 min walk from the hotel. (The house is also a part of the hotel). My parents stayed at the hotel. Everything was super nice and beautiful. This is the real japan experience, most of the other visitors are non-western. We really liked the food, probably the best authentic Japanese food that i have had on any of my trips, so that is a definite big plus. There is beautiful nature all around. The hot springs were also really nice. The hotel has two beautiful pools - one outside in a small garden. Again very Japanese (No showers in the room and men and women are separated). Since you are out in nature, it also means that it would probably be good to get a car if you want to go on day trips (maybe the hotel can arrange it, we rented a car by Nasushiobara Station). We spent one day just walking around the lakes and small bridges. My son collected a lot of rocks and we sat in their Japanese garden and had tea. The second day we went to a pottery shop and visited a childrens friendly farm. (The farm was really great for my 2 year old son. He rode a donkey and fed a cow) The third day we walked to the local gallery which is fantastic. (small but really great) and i heard there was a daily art walk, but we didn't go. We also drove to the Highland amusement part which was fantastic. A little old but really big and in the middle of nowhere in a forrest. Anyways the hotel is super nice. I would really recommend it above anything else that I have seen in Japan.

I stayed overnight with a group of 80 people, arriving at 7 pm. Week day night. The room is already assigned and we can go to our room right away without having to wait. The room's key was in the room. It was a j Japanese style. If you do not ask other wise the staff would come around 8-9 pm. to set up Futon and. Bed 4 U. But u can ask them to set up a bed on a standard box mattress. Air conditioning /or heater was new and control the room temp quiet perfect. It was -3 Celsius right now at 11 pm. There are typically, safe, fridge, hot/cold water tank in your room. It was old style hotel.,so don't expect bath room and toilet as usual-very small space toilet like u r sitting in a box. Dinner was really and I meant it . Fabulous, lots of variety to choose from. Free onsen / separate btwn /male /female, entertainment room ,,liberly.....very good indeed. Extensive range of food for dinner buffet.

Ghosts... Just kidding, seriously.

Reviewed By Higuma2017

When the wind blows strong against the windows on the top floor, one can certainly understand why there are so many ghost stories in Japan. The ceiling pops up as an earthquake, and the water piping whispers the words of a dozen witches. The sink drain keeps drumming on a paused motion, as if a Tengu is mischievously clapping sticks behind the shower curtain. But once you fall asleep you will wake up alive the next day, and find that this is a decent hotel, with spectacular light in the room and an almost decent breakfast (they don't serve nama-tamago, unfortunately).
