Annual trip to Jollyboys and the Zambezi river

My favourite place to stay. Air conditioned rooms are a game changer when its so hot and humid. Really nice hang out spots both inside, by the pool and out, solid kitchen set up and easy walking distance to town and close to Victoria Falls by car. The staff are incredible, some of the nicest people you will meet and really trustworthy. Many a time mine the staff have given myself or my mates our phones or wallets back after a messy night of too many mosi's. Cheers to everyone at Jollyboys for being so rad! Catch you again next year!

Best Value for the Money!!!

Reviewed By I973FMscottm

Having stayed at many Branded hotels in Lusaka....this place is by far the best value for the money! Its a family run boutique hotel, where the owners and staff are super friendly and always around to answer questions or or help with any needs. The rooms are very clean and comfortable, with little touches that make it seem as if your staying at a home rather than a hotel. Lush wide open spaces inside will make you feel like your in the country not the city.

A perfect 10/10 from me. Great room, great food, great setting and very delicious fresh food! Need to give special mention to the friendly staff who go out of their way to make you feel at home. I arrived late, well after the kitchen had closed but the staff still went and prepared a fresh meal for me, at midnight.

Stay somewhere else

We arrived in Lusaka after a 50 hour train ride from Dar es Salaam followed by a very uncomfortable 3 hour ride in a packed mini van. We had no idea how long the train would take as there doesn’t seem to be a standard arrival time, so we hadn’t booked a room. The first place we went was full, so our taxi driver suggested this place. We were utterly exhausted so just agreed. The receptionist was just ice cold and he room was only half finished being renovated. It smelt of paint, the tiling in the shower wasn’t finished and there were loose electrical wires hanging down in the shower where a light should have been. But hey there was a bed and that was all we cared about, what’s a little electrocution? My partner went out to the bar to have a beer and chill out a bit, but the bar staff was really rude to him for daring to ask for a drink and then couldn’t give him change from 50 Kwacha even though there was a bar full of people drinking. She made him get the 10 Kwacha for the beer and water from the money we paid for the room and told him he had to pay it back in the morning. The next morning while he was out trying to get change, some guy came knocking at our door looking for the 10 Kwacha. He said he had lent my partner the money for the beer and needed the cash back. I had no idea who he was and it made no sense. Turned out they took the 10 from this guy. Place is just weird.

If you are really backpacking in Zambia

If you just need a place to put you sleeping bag down on a bed, have a good shower and toilet facility, and feel secure in the city, this is the place. And its real cheap. But don't expect anything else. Yes, there are shops up the road to get snacks, taxi nearby. And they were awake when we arrived late at night. And they have free Wi-Fi. But don't expect anything more.

A disappointing stay

Reviewed By Emma A

We stayed one night in a double room with a shared bathroom. It seems they have not had any travelling guests for a while (since mid September), with most people staying there being volunteers, living there. This being the case, the bathrooms were not clean on arrival, and the kitchen was left stacked with plates from the night before when we went to get our complimentary breakfast- coffee/tea and bread. The bed was comfy and the room was adequate.

Disappointed

Reviewed By Doreen H

I stayed there for one night and I regretted it. The room had not been cleaned for a while I think. The bedding were dirty and stained and when I asked for clean ones, I was given another stained sheet and a dirty towel. I ended up using my wrapper as a bed sheet. The shower head fell on me when I tried to shower in the morning. The room was not worth the money. I stayed at a another lodge not far from there that was slightly cheaper but it was much better, it even had DSTV but I paid more at Kalulu and there was no tv in the room. The lady who was checking me out came with only a towel around her waist, which was very unprofessional. You really have a great place, you just need to pay attention to cleanliness of the place
