Would not recommend!

Reviewed By sarahmW5186NR

Throughout my backpacking trip in Cambodia I have stayed at various mad monkey hostels which I have highly recommend to other traveler's the standard has always been set very high. Unfortunately this hostel does not live up to its name, I understand this hostel is on a remote island and the amenities will be different from the one in Phnom Penh the city and Siem Reap. Once we arrived on Koh Rong Samloen we were left at the pier for nearly 2 hours as the hostel forgot to pick us up to take us on their boat to the island the hostel is on, we had called and was told 20 mins and they arrived nearly 1 hour and a half later. The rooms are extremely dated with holes in the walls which allowed an infestation of ants all over the room, huge lizards above the bed etc. We had to sleep with jumpers on as during the 3 days here we were woken up with what looked like bed bugs bites all over us and after to speaking with other guests they had the same marks on them! These were NOT mosquito bites! They do provide mosquito nets however they are ripped and have holes in them so defeats the purpose. Also the door from the outside doesn’t LOCK! i have never experienced this before after speaking with a guest who turned out to be volunteering here his words were “well every backpacker is in the same position we should all trust each other” that’s all good and well if they provide lockers inside the room which can fit your bag, again there isn’t! There is a tiny locker which can fit a passport in it, that’s it. The hostel has a policy where they take 0 responsibility for missing items etc however if they cannot provide a basic lock on the door I think they should be held accountable if anything went missing. Absolutely no security here what so ever. The prices for food and drink are extremely expensive (on par with UK prices for food) the food is good however extremely over priced. Once you are at this hostel you cannot leave unless you go via boat which goes 4 times a day, if you miss the boat back over which is at 4pm you are stranded on the other island so leaves you no option to pay the ridiculous prices for food as you feel stuck. The location itself is very beautiful, the beach is very clean so we spent our time at the beach and did enjoy our time there. Our biggest and main concern was the wrist band and not being able to pay anything in cash, we arrived and could choose how much we wanted to put on our wrist band which we knew would last our stay here.. the hostel was 60 dollars for the few night which left us with 40 dollars left to spend on food and soft drinks (we made the decision to not drink alcohol here as the prices were so high) so we knew this budget would be ok. It was also only for 2 days! We were over charged meals and promised refunds the next day.. the next day arrived the guy behind the bar “forgot” he promised us this and insinuated we were lying. When he finally remembered his words which were only (15 hours prior) he refunded us half of the meal and said he never over charged us everything when he intact did. After arguing and getting no where we let it slide as we had 2 people making us feel like liars. All of a sudden a few hours later when we went to order dinner we had no money left in the account.. we had taken note of every single thing we had purchased and worked out we should have had about 11 dollars left. Again after questioning we got no where so we made the decision to check our early and lose out on money because we simply did not trust the staff to put more money on our card. Other guests in the hostel felt they had money that went unaccounted for however as far as we were aware nobody got anywhere when questioned it. This could do with so much improvement and I’m sure it could be great. We have stayed in hostels in Cambodia for a fraction of the price of what this cost and the standard was way higher.

Great hostel in a building site

Reviewed By alexh11494

As many reviews have already stated, Sihanoukville is a total building site at the moment. I’m sure once it’s all finished it will look fantastic, however at the moment I feel for the local businesses. The hostel itself is lovely. Clean, modern, comfortable and spacious rooms. Excellent facilities particularly in toilet e.g hairdryer, hot showers, soaps, towels. Great food. Reasonable price. The staff are friendly and help with booking boat tickets. Overall would recommend coming here if you are on your way to Koh Rong or Koh Rong Salem.

SunBoo Beach Bungalows

Welcome to SunBoo Beach Bungalows! We've found paradise for you! On our exclusive private beach with its golden sand and turquoise blue sea, you'll find peace and relaxation amidst the unspoilt nature of Koh Rong Samloem. In our Bungalows you can listen to the sounds of the nearby jungle as you gradually fall asleep. Thanks to the secluded location of this remote, car-free island, this is an absolutely ideal retreat. Despite the quiet surroundings of SunBoo Beach Bungalows, the beach offers plenty of opportunities to be active. You can go diving, hiking, play beach volleyball or just watch the absolutely stunning sunsets. SunBoo Beach Bungalows is a tropical adventure playground for nature lovers. A comfortable home for flashpackers, couples & families.

Great vibe, great welcome!

We were staying at Saracen Bay and took the difficult hike to Sunset beach. The beach is amazing and has four bar/restaurants on. We walked the length of the beach and tried every one. The only one we were given a warm welcome in and had vegan options in was Sunboo. The people there were friendly, open to talking us through their menu and the options we could have as vegan and veggie. A marked difference between this place and the other places on the beach. I would highly recommend this place for the ambiance and the food.

Lazy Bones

ME SO LAZY

Reviewed By Pilsatorpimpf

My absolute favourite hostel so far! Great chill out area, beautiful green garden and good food. The beds are comfortable and the showers and toilets are clean. Especially recommended for a longer stay on the island, as you can escape the sand at Lazy Bones. Best of all is the atmosphere and the incredibly nice Lazy Bones crew, which I have taken into my heart. This is also the reason why we left after one week instead of staying two days. Thanks for everything! If I ever come back to the island we will stay here again

Awesome food & menu !!! We had so many meals here. Really cheap too for where we are.

Reviewed By Foodie999999999

We love Onederz. We didnt stay here but we came here most days for breakfast and lunch. Great menu, music and service. The breakfast is $3.75 for omlette, 2 x toast, fruit bowl and a small iced cofffee. It also has loads of other options. Lunch - I had tuna baguette which was delish!! We spent so many days eating here during our stay at Koh R. Samleom. The food is much cheaper here than the other resturants and the food is really really good! There is a huge bar area, and snooker table.too!!!

Firefly Guesthouse

A pearl in Koh Rong

Reviewed By Maps538383

We had a wonderful time at the Firefly Guesthouse at the end of the year (including a fantastic New Year's Eve watching fireworks from the deck!). The location is just unique: Prek Svay is a small fishing village in a remote are of Koh Rong, and the guesthouse is literally on the sea water. The views are amazing, and the place is beautifully decorated with natural elements such as wood from the beach, shells, wild flowers... The room was large and comfortable, without luxuries but again made with very good taste. Mr Hun and his wife were very kind to us, and their business is an example of socially and environmentally responsible enterprise (Hun has been involved in local efforts to reduce plastic pollution and to improve working opportunities in his community). They offer a short but tasty menu, and Hun went the extra mile and got us some coconuts directly from his palm tree! Totally recommended if you want to experience the island life in an authentic place outside of the main tourist circuit.

You can always hear and sometimes even see, what your neighbors are busy with; this is the furthest hostel on the island, the road up the hill is little muddy and steep. Has a nice bar/cafe, from where you could see the sunset.
