Friendly people and great breakfast
Reviewed By Esther-in-MalaysiaThe staff at Don Chepe is very friendly! The breakfast contained papaya, soup, eggs any way you like and coffee/chocolate. This kept us going all day. The rooms are around a courtyard, which can be noisy. We had a very small room with a double bed. When placing our backpacks on the floor, there was hardly any space left to walk. There were no windows in the room, the only daylight came from some pigeon holes in the wall. These were not covered by mosquito nets or curtains. The bathroom was nice and clean. The shower was warm and had good pressure. The room also had a tv and a fan. Will I stay here again, yes but I would book a larger room for 2.

The hostel is owned and run by an Anglo-Colombian family on their small organic citrus farm with panoramic views. The environmental policy includes full recycling, solar shower, composting, eco-toilets, organic vegetable garden and mandarin orchard. Amenities include: Natural pool, Indian and vegetarian restaurant, campsite shop, roofed campfire area; converted bus with 100s of classic movies and board games, forest walks; mountain bike hire and country routes and hiking to nearby villages. We arrange tours for Rafting, paragliding, caving, downhill biking, canyoning and more! Easily accessible by bus from San Gil and Barichara, but far from any man roads.

Reviewed By O1404WCnicolascThe location is amazing. Gorgeous view of the valley. Good choice of accomodations (camping or rooms). You fall asleep peacefully with the sound of nature at night. The owners really make sure that everything goes smoothly from day one and make you feel at home. The food is delicious (Try the curry!) Their policy for recycling/sustainability really matched what I was looking for (composting toilet, naturally filtered swimming pool, reuse of plastic for construction...)

We have a great selection of board games, Netflix, lockers, kitchen, coffee etc but its the quality of the activities and free information that we give saving our guests money and helping them have the best possible experience that has made us so popular. With so much on offer in San Gil from so many companies of different standards we help you not waste time and get you on the water, in the air, on 2 wheels or underground with the best guides. Safety is huge or us and we wont recommend anything that I personally havent done myself.

The internet connection works great and evrything is clean. The staff is friendly and helpful with the activities. Also helpful booking the transportation like next bus connection and taxis to move around. Best of Macondo organizing Taco night where a Mexican chef will gring tacos and margaritas for dinner (so delicious) and tejo activity a local game that it's so much fun and to put together a few guests going out for enterteintment

In Traveler Hostel San Gil, we have rooms totally equipped with everything that you need to make your stay more confortable. Also we have a nice kitchen with all the utensils yo need to prepare the most amazing food that you can find in the main place market (just 3 blocks from the hostel). On second floor there is a special zone with hammocks, camping zone, BBQ and beer garden to share with friends and enjoy nigth activities. Traveler Hostel San Gil it´s the perfect place to relax while you are enjoying the extreme sports, hiking and nature of the place. We are located just 3 blocks from he Main Square Park, Bus Station ( to Barichara, Curíti, Villanueva), markets, restaurants and more. Come and share your experiences with us.

Reviewed By tkohl13This is a great hostel, with a fun and relaxing atmosphere. The rooftop common area was a great place to unwind at the end of the day, and the dorms were comfortable and spacious. The staff was very accomodating and friendly.

Reviewed By bylrgrlEverything was perfect! Location, service, environment, hosts, amenities and cleanliness. The hostel is located right in the main square, yet the rooms are quiet. The front desk ladies are EXTREMELY friendly and attentive to all the guests. Also very safe as the entrance and exit are monitored by cameras by the front desk staff. The hostel is open and spacious and has a balcony over looking the main square. There’s a pool, sauna (all working) hot water with good shower pressure and decent Wi-Fi. Highly recommend this hostel, even if you don’t generally prefer hostels.

The facilities are clean, the staff are always willing to help and tell you a piece of advice. I was a Couple of days but I took advantage of the recommendations. The hostel is worth staying.

El Dorado has been designed to meet the needs of the modern traveller, its location, 20 meters from San Gil's main square and entertainment centre allows guests to enjoy all the facilities that the town has to offer, in addition staff at the hostel are Colombian/British nationals who can speak Spanish and English fluently, helping travellers understand and connect more easily with the local environment. Most dorms are equipped with 3 or 4 beds the majority with semi double beds and semi orthopaedic mattresses for extra comfort, well decorated double bedrooms are also available; clean linen and towels are also provided free of charge. In addition, some dorms have private showers and toilets while the rest share numerous other WC facilities. All communal areas are very comfortable and relaxing; the lounge is equipped with Wi-Fi internet, communal computers, LCD, cable TV, DVD player. The Bar is located in the back of the hostel; in addition there are bikes could you rent, there is also a self catering kitchen that guests can make use of free of charge. The hostel also offers lessons in numerous fields, such as Spanish, English and salsa dancing. Kayaking and swimming lessons can also be arranged, bicycle and bike hire are also available at the hostel. The hostel have you own Extreme Sports company in San Gil to offer guests information, advice and booking services for the different activities that are available, such as, canyoning (the best one), horse riding, walks and many more, rafting, paraglading. All the activities listed are supervised by fully qualified guides and some include English Speaking guides. In addition we also offer advice on other tourist destinations around Colombia and South America.
Canyoning
Reviewed By Eleanor SWe didn't stay at this hostel but were recommended it for the canyoning which was great. Our guide Fabio was funny, made us feel very safe and was very encouraging. The canyoning itself was really fun, jumping, rappelling and climbing in and out the river. Pictures were also taken throughout which was an added bonus. Would recommend!

The worst place I ever stayed
Reviewed By K8560TGalexsI want to share with you that I stayed one night in this hotel and it was the worst decision I have made in my life, this "hotel" says that it has hot water, but it is a lie, it does not have hot water, for me to bathe they gave me a pot of warm water for me to bathe, the hotel's electrical system is weak, it does not have cable, but national and religious channels. They do not have bottles of water, not even to sell. If you want to sleep peacefully in the morning, this is not the place because it is next to a Catholic church where from 5 am the bell begins to ring, interrupting the sleep at that time. In my opinion one of the owners, Mrs. Alejandra is a liar for giving misleading and false information. That is why the hotel is empty. I do not recommend anyone to stay in this place

Staff is super friendly and has a great knowledge about what to do in the area concerning your preferences. Kitchen is very well equiped and we loved to have our breakfast on the wonderfull roof terrace looking over San Gil.
