Staff is awesome

Laura and Catalina from reception and Quique from the bar (the Venezuelan guy) were just extremely friendly and welcoming, thank you so much. On the downside, Even though the hostel is very nice, the rooms were cramped and as it is a huge place and most guests weren’t very friendly, I didn’t like the vibe being a solo traveler

Something special :)

For our 4-night stay in Medellin we decided to spend 2 nights in Poblado and 2 nights a bit more quiet south of Medellin, in the Secret Buddha in Estrella. After staying in a few hostels in Colombia, we expected something else. The Secret Buddha is more like a bed&breakfast, you stay in the house with the owner Mariano, his little boy and help Cece (lovely lady). The house and garden are amazing, all designed/built by Mariano himself. Mariano is very welcoming and hospitable, made us feel at home right away. The room was medium clean. Expect to be in a house, not a hotel or (fancy) hostel. We upgraded our room but misinderstood the costs. In the end our stay turned out to be quite expensive, also because we had to pay for our laundry. The description of the hostel says a washing machine is available and Mariano told us the first night that this service was included. We had quite a bit of laundry, so thought it was reasonable to pay something, but we had to pay 90.000 COP for it, which made the total 570.000 COP for two nights (50.000 COP extra per night for the other room) Wouldn't have want to miss the experience of our stay here, but I am not sure if it's something for everyone. (Not if: you value perfect cleanliness, you want to party in medellin -taxi around 50.000 COP-, you feel uncomfortable being in someone's house, you travel on a budget). All in all a nice, special experience :)

Good hostel

Reviewed By chuchilla

Overall the hostel is good. Was a nice breakfast, a big terrace, the reception is friendly and helpful and the location is ok. Seems like there are many long term guests staying here, my room was small and messy with stuff everywhere. The kitchen needs a clean/update and I couldn't get hot water for the shower in the morning. But these are small things. for a one night stay, it's safe and can be recommended. It's definitely good value for the price.

Very noisy hostel. Manager has a bad attitude problem to guests.

Reviewed By chiris1234

Building work next to hostel is extremely noisy 8am throughout day. You cannot enjoy the terrace.. plus breakfast you have to make yourself. Streets on main road are also very noisy meaning dorms are noisy when you open for fresh air. Unfortunately the Manager was very unfriendly to me when i left and made it clear she was happy that i leave. How rude after i even pay for a meal she is invited to when i first arrive!. She said it was because of water in bathroom floor afer showering. This was a fault of bad design. Not me. I never exoerinced this bad attitude from Hostel Owner from any other hostels in my past 30 or so years of travel. In fact i was so shocked by her bad attitude towards me as a guest who made good effort to make friends with staff and guests, that i needed to write this review.
