Clean stylish hostel with buzzing bar downstairs

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We were in one of the individual rooms, 'Paul', would definitely recommend as you have a comfy platform bed with views out over the rooftops when you wake up. Double glazing astonishingly good - barely heard the traffic. Shared toilets and bathrooms are thoughtfully decorated and kept impressively clean. Chilled little lounge area with free coffee and tea facilities is great if you're working remotely. Bar downstairs was rammed on a Saturday night with young crowd, cheap drinks and excellent music. Our room was on the sixth floor so it didn't disturb us. Only observation would be that soundproofing of the door was not great, as is the case in most hostels to be fair, so if you get people making noise on the floor itself within the corridor that might disturb you. Not really an issue for us most nights though.

Very central

Reviewed By Globaltraveller410

The location was excellent and our room (double en-suite) was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious and luxurious - certainly better than many more expensive hotels we have stayed in. We were at the front and generally it was not too noisy at night. However on one night there was rather a lot of noise outside, which seemed to be people who were residents. When we raised it with staff the following morning they thought it was a group who were due to leave. The following night was quieter. Unfortunately wifi/internet access was unavailable for the whole of our stay. Overall we were still very pleased with our stay and staff were always cheerful and helpful

Great Value for Money

Travelled as a Choir on Tour and used this Youth Hostel as a base for Lemgo and Hamlyn. Very welcoming and all rooms we had were en suite. Cleaned daily. Bedding provided was clean and easy to put on. The Breakfast was one of the best continental ones I have seen. Massive selection, even for the most fussy of eaters! Plenty of coffee, tea (including herbal) hot chocolate and fruit juices. Lots of cheese and ham and fresh bread rolls. The packed lunches/teas were also very healthy. The reception had items to purchase and a soft drinks machine. Beer was also available at 1.5 euro per bottle. Outside there is plenty of space to kick a ball, swings, slide, table tennis and activity play area. Parking for many cars and even a coach space. Tucked away up a hill on the edge of Detmold with lovely autumnal colours. Very peaceful and quiet. I would recommend for families, groups. I would certainly say if I needed to stay again I would have no hesitation in booking this facility.

We didn't make our sheets, so they locked us out of our room and cancelled the room keys

Reviewed By deos16

Was recently here on a trip to Cologne, the hostel is in a central position so we thought it would be a good place to stay. One of the main qualms I had with this hotel is the staff and their behaviour. The first full day we spent at the hotel, we went out for a visit to the surrounding area. While we were out they came into our room. We had not put our bedsheets on our beds as we had got their late the night before. To retaliate to this, with no warning, they cancelled our key cards hence we could not get back into the room. After complaining to the hotel, they arrogantly moaned at us then gave us only 1 new card. They had locked out multiple rooms, I am not even sure if this is legal. However, the rooms where overall nice. The food, both in the morning yet especially in the evening, was not nice. It was largely very bland. There were many school trips in the hotel that made a large amount of noise until late into the evening.
