10 Top-Rated Condos in Salzburg, Austrian Alps

April 29, 2023 Osvaldo Hartline

It’s been 200 years or so since he lived here, but Mozart is still very much Salzburg’s favorite son. Visit the composer’s residence and birthplace, then explore the Altstadt (Old City), taking in the baroque architecture. If your musical tastes run more "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens" than "Requiem in D Minor," catch one of the many Sound of Music tours and follow in the footsteps of the Von Trapps.

Bad guest-relations policy

Let me first tell you the pluses and then explain why I still didn’t enjoy the stay. Pros: + Pretty clean (if you don’t check what’s under the bed) + Modern design, “fresh” building + Quiet + Democratic price + Free parking Cons: - Poor, average breakfast: 5 types of salami, 2 types of cheese, sliced watermelon as the only fruit, cheap machine coffee etc. Check the photos. - Tricky reservations department. I clearly wrote in the email that I would like to book the Eco-Suite WITH a balcony. Instead of this they booked the room without it and didn’t tell me. Ok, misunderstanding happens. BUT! - The receptionist refused to relocate us saying that she didn’t have free rooms with a balcony. Which was lies because all of them were free. We didn’t meet any single person on the floor during our stay and from the outside it was obviously seen. Once again, check the photos. She was probably just lazy to change the room for us. I should add that we stayed with a 7-months old baby, who goes to sleep at 8 p.m. So, instead of enjoying the evening at the balcony after our child fell asleep, we had to spend the evening in silence on our phones. So, it’s ok for a one-night stay but don’t expect special treatment. I wouldn’t come back to this hotel for another family trip with a baby.

Villa Salzburg

The villa in Salzburg Villa Salzburg is a grand building in the elegant Riedenburg district. The villa is just a 10 minute walk from Salzburg’s famous historic city centre where you’ll find the Salzburg Festspielhaus (Festival Hall) and many other cultural sights and attractions. It’s also easy to reach the other areas of the city in comfort via a short bus journey. Tradition meets design The villa was built in 1893 and has a long history. In 2015, the villa was completely renovated and expanded. At this time, a modern staircase with a glass front was added between the historic section and the new building. The holiday apartments also beautifully combine the historic architecture with modern and elegant design elements. The result is exclusive and luxurious designer apartments that offer an exceptional living environment. Rooftop terrace with a view Guests are welcome to use our partially landscaped, 70 m² rooftop terrace. The terrace offers views of Mönchsberg Mountain and the villas in the Riedenburg district. The rooftop terrace is equipped with comfortable lounge furniture, relaxing loungers and romantic lighting for wonderful evenings to end your day. Modern sustainability Villa Salzburg is a symbol of luxury holidays in Salzburg, as well as environmental awareness and sustainability. The renovation work in 2015 transformed the villa into a low-energy building that now generates the majority of its own power and heat with an 80 m² photovoltaic system. The building is a prime example of sustainable and environmentally conscious construction. Luxury holidays in the centre of Salzburg The unique location near the Neutor tunnel makes it possible for you to reach most attractions on foot. The bus stop is just a few metres from our building. There are also many cafes, bakeries and restaurants in the immediate vicinity of Villa Salzburg, as well as a supermarket, laundrette, hairdresser and much more.

Would Stay Here Again

Clean, comfortable, updated, well appointment, good parking, and easy walk to old town. No complaints at all. We would recommend, and would also stay here again if ever in Salzburg. Our digital code for the door did not work, so we needed to call an after hours number to get a new code when we arrived. So we recommend having that phone number handy.

Best Location in Salzburg Altstadt

Reviewed By SFbySail

We've stayed in Salzburg many times, and this is by far the best location. Step out the door and you are surrounded by old Salzburg. Cafes, restaurants, museums are all just steps away. Our studio was well equipped with everything we needed for a 4 night stay, including a Nespresso Coffee maker. Facilities were spotlessly clean, and the staff was welcoming. We did our own breakfast with provisions from nearby markets and a bakery.

Refused to issue voucher for 2021 because we couldn't leave Australia in 2020.

Reviewed By Di4870

We live in Queensland Australia and we have never been to Austria before.  In October 2019, we booked a trip to Bavaria and Austria for August /September 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we can't leave Australia. Singapore Airlines and all the Munich/Bavarian Alps hotels have kindly provided vouchers so we can rebook for next year. The only hotel we booked in Austria, "Salzburg City Appartement Messe", has refused to issue a voucher to expire 31st December 2021. They have offered to rebook for dates limited to 2020 but they know we can't leave Australia in 2020.  They will not reconsider despite the fact we pre paid AUD $602 for 3 nights and they have not provided any service.     If your plans change, you can cancel free of charge until free cancellation expires." We have advised Salzburg City Appartement Messe that we can't travel in 2020 and need the voucher to expire on 31st December 2021 but they have not refused.   This is a fair and reasonable request given the Covid-19 pandemic is unprecedented in our lifetime and hotels dealing with tourists need to give special consideration due to these unforeseen life and death circumstances. It is also good public relations for their business and for Austrian tourism and the economy in the future but they have failed to make a fair adjustment in extraordinary circumstances. It is in their best interests to be reasonable.  We have not asked for a refund.  We simply want to change the dates of our booking, and have the cancellation fee waived, because of the Covid-19 pandemic.  We need a voucher so we can rebook the hotel when we have certainty about the dates of our Singapore Airlines flights.  Singapore Airlines has advised we must wait until mid October 2020 before we can rebook September 2021 flights.  We would also consider a full refund. Don't support hotels that are so unfair and unreasonable. Stay elsewhere. Be warned and learn from our mistake when we booked and prepaid Salzburg City Aparement Messe. A one night cancellation fee would be understandable but to take 3 nights payment for no service provision is unethical business practise.

Odd Unlikeable Hotel

Reviewed By Peter E

TripAdvisor usually provides a very good guide when you strip out the more extreme, emotional reviews at either end and take the median. I'm therefore genuinely perplexed at how many good or very good reviews for this hotel there are. I'm wondering if there is a whole other category of rooms (perhaps the apartments?) because my impressions as an experienced traveller really don't tally with many of them. I found it a distinctly odd, unlikeable and quite shabby place. POSITIVES: + There is serviceable free wifi (4 Mbps) throughout; although I note it is free to some guests, but to a student group staying they charged €3 for 24 hours per device, which seemed mean and petty + Good water pressure and plenty of hot water + A genuinely good (but not excellent) breakfast buffet with a decent spread of quality ingredients There the positives end. NEGATIVES: - The large building feels like a charmless office building. It's strange design with vast metal framed window areas will lead to huge overheating in summer. - The décor is of course subjective. Expect a strange, fussy, collection of eclectic modern pieces of furniture and "objects d'art" strewn randomly in the communal parts, which contrast with the office feel of the architecture. It's clear this is a family run and they've stamped their mark on it strongly. It might be your taste: it wasn't mine. - My room by contrast was shabby, worn, and hadn't be refitted in probably 25 years. Old floral carpet met furniture from the 90s and hideous pieces of soft furnishings. - Tiny shower-room. I'm slim and could barely fit into the shower. Old fittings (again at least 25 years old). One tiny tube of the cheapest shampoo/body wash provided as complimentaries - The location of the hotel is on the busy main southern route into Salzburg. It's a charmless area surrounded by grey modern buildings, offices and car dealerships. It is exactly 4km (1 hour) walk into the Domplatz. - There is no air conditioning in the rooms. If the hotel overheats as I suspect (and other reviews mention) this will lead to unbearably hot nights' sleep with noise from the road with open windows. - There was only one employee on reception, which led to a 10 minute wait on check in while she had a long phone-call. Another query resulted in a 10 minute wait. The staff at breakfast were surly and dictatorial, pointing fingers and barking orders in East European style. This of course isn't a comprehensive survey of all the staff employed here, and I note other reviews who say staff were friendly - but it was my impression of those I did encounter, and that's all I can go on. SUMMARY: All in all I find it quite comical that the hotel holds itself out as a 4 star standard. That might be the case by its own definition or however the city of Salzburg defines it, but to the international traveller expect a 2 star level of accommodation and provision of services. In fact, I've stayed in considerably higher quality refitted 2 star Ibis hotels and Motel Ones (with air conditioning and fresh modern rooms) which beat this hotel hands down on everything except breakfast. The price isn't even good value; the quality/performance ratio is poor for what they charge. It's sad when it's a family hotel you're reviewing and this is your conclusion, but in my experience the hotel is definitely best avoided.

Sublime Salzburg

Reviewed By MattGG

1. Hosts were amazing communication was flawless. We had our transfers mucked up several times by travel companies. They changed our dates and were lovely about it. Checking in was so simple they sent you a door code which worked for the front door and apartment door. We arrived early in the am and were able to store our bags after 12 when the last people checked out. It was perfect. 2. The location was 10 min Australian walk to the centre of the old town (20 mins if your American). Mirabell gardens, the river and most of the main sights were within easy walking distance. It was far enough out of the main area though so it was quiet. If you were here at Xmas like us all the Xmas markets were easy to get to by walking. The only one you couldn’t walk to was the one at Schloss Hellbrunn which was a cab out of town. 3. The apartment was flawless. Spotlessly clean. Great bedrooms, bathrooms and lounge.. it is just as the pictures show . The appliances were all excellent quality and the heating kept us very cosy. I was walking around in shorts and tee shirt once home. The coffee machine was a Capsule machine which worked well. The closet at the end of the hall worked perfectly as a drying rack. We washed and put our clothes out on coat hangers and they were dry by morning. Perfect for a family. 4. Eating there were lots of great options throughout the old town 10-15min walk. Some of the ones we enjoyed were. A) Stiftskeller St Peter. Oldest restaurant in the world and more of a proper night out. We had a great dinner out. 4 of us 3 courses and a nice bottle of wine and it was about 270 euro. On the expensive side but I thought worth it. Similar quality to a one hat restaurant in Sydney and about that price. I would book though easy to do online. 15-20 min walk. B) Spagetti and Co in the main section of the old town Simple Italian trattoria food perfectly fine for a quick meal. 40 euro for four meals and a couple of big beers. 15 min walk. C) L’Osteria again Italian Trattoria style. Better quality than Spagetti and Co. amazing pizzas one between two would be fine. The pasta and gnocchi as So good. About 50-60 euro four meals and bottle of wine. 10 min walk at the beginning of the old town but on the same side of the river as the apartment. D) PitterKeller in the Imlauer Hotel ( 5 min walk ) from the apartment. We had Xmas eve there traditional Austrian fare schnitzels, beef pork as it was Xmas eve we had a set menu 49€ a head. Food was good we tried to go back but couldn’t get a table. E) Any of the Gasthaus restaurants you wouldn’t have any issue with you would get all the staples of goulash, schnitzels, dumplings, beef. Depending on what you eat and drink expect about 50-70€ for four for a decent meal and some beers or a bottle of wine. 5. Basic food shopping a) Spar supermarket just around the corner for all the basics. Bread, milk etc but better fresh food and wine further in town. b) turn left out of the apartment and 30 m up the rd there are a little set of green wooden huts, great bakery, deli and a pizza and Thai place. We did try the pizza or Thai so not sure, but the deli and bakery were great. c) Keep going across the rd from the green buildings and there is a cafe /konditeri called fingerloss. Great cakes and good coffee or a small breakfast. d) The Billa Corso supermarket was just over the river directly across from the bridge with the locks on it ( you can’t miss it ) good selection of food and wine in there better than the Spar near the apartment . 10-15 min walk. e) Bakeries everywhere endless pretzels everywhere couldn’t go wrong with any of them.

Not so impressed

I booked it because I really needed a parking spot directly on premises. When you book, it's not clear you get a parking spot, even though they advertise they have spots. Then they double book and people cannot park without blocking each other. Rrsukt: Day 1 someone parked on the spot on Foto and blocked 2 spots as really only fits 1 small car. Day 2 rental car got blocked completely and missed my flight... Otherwise nice design. But No breakfast. No elevator, so prepare to lift luggage 3 floors by yourself.

A trip that never happened

Reviewed By viktoriasali

First of all, let me emphasize that we would stay in these apartments for the sixth time. Everything was great, until this year. Rooms are very clean, modern, close to the old town and at a good price. The communication was flawless until now. Unfortunately, due to Austrian lockdown, we had to postpone our trip. So we canceled our tickets, got our money back from the airline and then our adventure began with that accommodation. As we talked normally about the lockdown, from that moment they are invisible. They never answered to any of my messages, I sent messages to all emails that I have . they are disappeared and they kept my deposit. However, I tried to find them on the phone, a woman answered me and told me that when the employees return to work they will notify me. Of course, nothing happened, even when their quarantine ended and everything is normal in tourism as well. I contacted all the competent services and everyone told me that I have no obligation to pay cancellations and of course they should not have kept my money. Also, to emphasize that I just wanted to change the dates and pay the difference, not to get my money back. And I told them via mails many times. Of course, I do not recommend it. After five years of staying in their apartments, they are completely unreliable and I lost 330 € Finally, I would like to inform you that all the other hotels answered me in case we stay to their accomodations, even if they were in lockdown conditions.
