Ganesh Garden Beach Cabanas

A calming place with stunning ocean’s view!

Reviewed By KasiaGonek

A calming place with an amazing view of the ocean. The hotel has a complex of beach houses by the ocean that are clean and regularly cleaned. There is a beautiful garden with swings- very atmospheric especially at night. The staff is very useful and friendly. The pool bar serves delicious food and drinks. The best of all the waiters is Aminda Roshan. He serves the best drinks I have ever tried. He has great knowledge about the island. He can take care of the customer. I sincerely recommend the hotel.

Star Light Cabanas & Restaurant

Great value, close to the beach

Reviewed By LJ B

Had a fantastic stay at these cabanas. The family members are great hosts and very kind. They make delicious rotti and curry for a very good price (much better value then elsewhere). Also they gave us nice fresh fruit plates with ananas, papaya and banana every morning when we asked. It is a much better stay than the overpriced cabanas directly at the beach itself, because you have access to the same beach and restaurants!

Deluxe Cottages,Tree Houses

A super cool experience, waking up with the sounds of nature!

Reviewed By RHIx2

We stayed in a tree house and had the most amazing experience of waking of up with nature. A super cool experience if you like nature and or are travelling with children. The tree houses are spacious and have nets to keep the monkeys out, mosquito nets over the beds and a safe to keep valuables locked away, but the whole are feels safe and well looked after. When you enter the gates you feel a little like you re entering Jurassic Park, it's brilliant. Lovely reception and restaurant area too! Definitely visit the Kataragama Temple complex whilst there, especially if you are lucky enough to be there for a full moon puja, one of our most favourite Sri Lankan experiences. LOVELY staff and owner, wish them all the best with this business! As of the political situation of Sri Lanka at the moment, we highly recommend that you ignore this and travel anyway! We travelled around for two weeks mid protests and petrol crisis and our trip was not in any way disrupted nor did we feel unsafe at any point in time. The protests are mainly near government buildings and are visited by families with kids, monks and students alike and does not target tourists who contribute so greatly to the Sri Lankan economy. Now more than ever, the Sri Lankan people needs us to visit so they can recover after the pandemic. Go and enjoy one of the most beautiful islands in the world which has so much to offer in terms of nature, culture, history, religious sites, smiley people and great food!

Eagles Nest Cabanas

Our cabanas are set in large grounds bordered by wetlands which between late November and early March are home to many visiting migratory birds. Many of our guest comment on the quiet, peaceful nature of the hotel grounds. The cabanas are two to three minutes walk from the beach and 4.2km from Tangalle town (10min in three-wheeler). It is an ideal location for those seeking a relaxing, quiet beach holiday and who are interested in wildlife. We have a comfortable saloon car and can do airport pick-ups, drops and tours. We have strong Wi-fi connection in our restaurant, provide a laundry service and room service.

A Little Slice of Paradise

Reviewed By humblefarmer

It's called Eagle's Nest, but to be fair, we did not see any eagles here. What we DID see were at least two dozen other species of birds that we could recognize from the handy home-made directory kept in the lovely restaurant at the place, and two dozen more about whom we kept wondering till the end of the trip. Right from Peacocks, Kites, and Seven Sisters to Herons, Kingfishers, wildfowl, Golden Orioles, and Egrets. We were woken up each morning by the sweet songs of birds, and slept each night after staring wondrously, and running behind, attempting to catch innumerable fireflies, which 'invaded' the complex as soon as it went dark. The only sound you hear throughout the day is that of birds, and cicadas at night. The rooms are basic, but have everything(we had taken the AC rooms, the AC worked just fine, without any voltage-related issues) you need, including hot water in the bathrooms. But you will anyway not be spending much time in the rooms, so why bother. You would either be at the seating area outside the rooms, looking at the greenery, and the birds on the water of the adjoining marshlands(and occasionally, trying to catch the sound of waves crashing on the nearby beach), or you would be staring at the sometimes azure, sometimes blue, and sometimes green waters of the Indian Ocean at the most spectacular and empty beach you will find anywhere. That's just a 5-7 minutes walk away. A slight detour, and you reach a small bridge on a pretty as a picture lagoon. Cross it, and you are on another shack, where the rocks tame the wild Ocean waves into submission, and you can swim(and get sunburnt, sigh) to your heart's content. But these are just places and locations, you could find them at many other destinations, right? But what you will never be able to find is the sweet and innocent smile of little Arosh, whose favourite dish is 'fruits', or the ever-smiling faces of Nimi's husband and brother-in-law(the trio run the place like a well-oiled machine, but in a lot more personal manner than a machine, of course), or the unfettered, unstoppable laughter of Nimi, when we pointed out to her that she had missed out on billing us for a couple of meals. Yup, it's that kind of place, you need to be careful about your math, else you just might end up paying less than you should :-) Yes, there are no shops or restaurants nearby. Yes, the place is far from the (very ordinary) town. Yes, the rooms are not fancy. Yes, there is no wifi in the rooms. But then, would you have the same concerns about paradise? P.S. I fell ill for a couple of days during our stay, and was worried that it was COVID. When we told Nimi about it, we were expecting her to freak out and get concerned about her guest house and her family. But she was only worried about my health, and made urgent phone calls at night to arrange for a COVID test for me first thing next morning. I was negative, thankfully, but will always remember the kindness of this family with all my heart. Thank you so much.

Yala Leopard Mobile Camp

A 5 star service

Reviewed By abboa2

My friend and I stayed at this a camp for 2 nights. The location was fantastic, we had wildlife right outside of our tent. Regular taxi’s are unable to travel to the camp because you are almost in Yala National park so you need a jeep to get to the camp. The accommodation will pick you up. Our taxi driver and the camp arranged to meet to just outside the camp so we were not waiting. The meals were amazing, so much food on offer that actually it was a bit too much and we were unable to eat it all. Service was fantastic, staff were very attentive. Wine and beer available. Dinner is outside, beside a fire and under the stars. We wanted to also visited Bundala National Park and this was provided at no extra cost - this may have been because we were staying for two nights so had two safaris included. We were also taken to a temple at no cost. The accommodation have a dog named Jack who we grew very fond of - I believe he is/was a street dog. He happily greets you when you enter the camp. After each journey outside the camp we were given a cold towel and refreshing drink on return. The tents are a little worn in places, and we couldn’t lock it but overall it was a great place to stay to visit Yala National Park. Towels and toiletries are provided and the private bathroom was huge. I think the accommodation is still suffering from a lack of tourism due to covid because the first night we were the only guests and were joined by other guests the second night.
