10 Top-Rated Bed and Breakfast Inns in Tangier, Tanger-Tetouan-Al Hoceima

May 2, 2023 Timmy Ribble

Located on the Strait of Gibraltar where Africa meets Europe, Tangier has long held strategic importance. Ruled through the centuries by waves of conquerors including Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Arabs and Portuguese, the city is more than two and a half millennia old, making it one of North Africa's most ancient. The medina, kasbah, bazaars and souks are among the country's most vibrant, and the beaches are excellent. In the last century, Tangier became a hot spot for the international jet set.

Very loud, poor service

Reviewed By lisadC8285UO

They messed up three times with my room. I have traveled to over 50 countries and never stayed in a place that messed up my reservation like this one. it literally says “balcony” in the reservation, which I paid extra for. Not only did it not have a balcony (a blatant lie), but they first took me to a (incorrect) room that had two twin beds. I researched so much for this trip with my bf - no way in hell I would’ve chosen a place with two twin beds. I told them they are wrong and they denied it. They then took me to a second incorrect room until they realized and admitted they took me to a second incorrect room. All this being said, I still have not been reimbursed whatsoever for paying more for a room with a balcony that didn’t exist. Lastly, I asked for a quiet room and was given I think the nosiest room on the property that directly faced the Medina on the first floor (heard men shouting all night outside - even on a Sunday night). wow, really regretted booking this place for our last night in Morocco…

Fantastic central location . We were welcomed by the lovely French owner , who offered us the traditional mint tea whilst explaining to us how to navigate around the local area and provided us a map. She recommended restaurants and booked the Hammam for myself . We booked 2 rooms which were both incredibly spacious , and a fantastic rain shower. Breakfast was a real delight ! Fresh fruits , feta and warm breads . My daughter had a fresh omelette with hot chocolate . Can not recommend this place highly enough . Welcoming , clean and traditional . Looking forward to returning.

Tranquil beauty and exceptionally kind hosts

I wish I could give 10 out of 5 stars for Maison de Tanger and its team. The experience that Marjolaine and Zakaria created for me and my husband during our first-ever visit (definitely won’t be our last, inshallah!) exceeded expectations in every way, despite the enthusiastic reviews that encouraged our reservation. If a room is available during your travel dates, don’t hesitate to book! Also, a hotel run by a team affiliated with Canadian music artists? Yeah, it’s just as cool and friendly as it sounds. You’ll be perfectly located within walking distance of the Kasbah, medina, and oceanfront, yet nestled into a blissfully quiet oasis replete with a lush garden, pool, and even a modernly equipped fitness center. Original artworks and endless books throughout the common areas set the tone for this cozy yet sophisticated boutique hotel. Each morning, you’ll be treated to a breakfast buffet featuring seasonal fruits and locally-made pastries, with eggs made to order. Hearing the morning birdsong while you enjoy your first meal of the day in the hotel’s sunroom or garden makes for a truly magical start to your days in Tangier! In the evenings, the shared roof terrace offers a perfect space for enjoying the sunset along with a glass of wine or mint tea. The rooms were well appointed with comfortable beds, strong water pressure, and fast WIFI. While the hotel’s website photos represent the rooms well, we were surprised at how much larger the garden and pool area were than we were expecting. There are so many common areas in which you can engage with other guests, or find a private nook in which to feel as if you’re the only person in the world. Hotel managers Marjolaine and Zakaria and their team are what make Maison de Tanger such an unforgettable experience. They are wonderfully warm and engaging hosts, who will make you feel like dear friends. They certainly did for me and my husband, whose birthday we were celebrating during our visit. They went above-and-beyond to create a magical stay, full of surprises. Thank you, Marjolaine and Zakaria, for your kindness. We look forward to seeing you next time (and we’ll explain the story behind the ‘fairy door’, too)!

Wish we stayed longer

Reviewed By mrszuhwiggins

My daughter and I stayed at Dar Sultan for one night in mid March. I wish we had been able to stay longer. We were picked up at the airport by Karim, who escorted us in the cab ride, and accompanied us to the front door of the Dar. We were then handed over to Nadia, one of the most gracious hostesses I have encountered. She showed us around the Dar, and then to our room (we were upgraded to a larger room) which opened on to a huge terrace. While we were admiring the beautiful view of the city from the terrace, Nadia was preparing some mint tea and yummy homemade sweets. She suggested a restaurant for dinner Le Saveur du Poisson which was out of this world. You pay a flat fee (20 USD) and they serve you four courses plus a juice - no menu, you just eat what is put in front of you. So fresh and seasoned impeccably. We did not know how to get there, so Karim accompanied us to and from the restaurant, while giving us a mini-tour of the medina along the way. We arrived back to the Dar stuffed, but sat out under the stars on the terrace and relaxed. Slept wonderfully, and woke up to Nadia's INSANE breakfast. Croissants, pancakes, jams, figs, olives, apple compote, muffins, yogurt, fruit, etc. And everything was homemade. So delicious. Nadia had also arranged for Karim to pick us up for a half day tour of the medina. Karim was like the unofficial mayor of Tangier - he seemed to know everyone. We hit all the highlights of the medina as Karim provided the history and fun facts in an engaging storytelling style. Before we knew it, it was time to head back to meet the driver that Jean Pierre had contracted for us. I was sad to be leaving so quickly as they all had made such a fabulous impression. You will not regret booking here.

Nice property, beautiful interior. The location is fine. Only the thing what was not good is the room was not well cleaned. The mirror in the bathroom was dirty, there was dust on the bed frame, spider webs in the closet. As well the staff doesnt speak english. Anyway we manage somehow with google translate. The breakfast and dinner was excellent. The owner is so friendly and helpful. I will recommended to my family and friends.

Lovely guest house, super staff

We stayed for a few nights in 2 of the suites, and they were fantastic. The rooms are quirkily decorated, full of personal touches, and character - this is NOT a bland chain hotel, so don't expect identical-kit rooms or perfection. Also, it's in the oldest part of Tangier and so none of the rooms are massive, and it's a bit of a warren, up and down stairs, but - again - that's part of the charm. Plus, the staff were really excellent - couldn't have been more helpful. They arranged for some clothes to be cleaned (there isn't a laundry service, but they help anyway), booked us into a lovely 2-person hammam at short notice, and took us to their related restaurant for dinner, which was about 4 minutes walk away. Special shout out to Nabile, who was so helpful. Breakfast was generous, and delicious (even offered on the morning we arrived, which is most unusual in my experience but very welcome after a Ryanair flight!). This is the Medina, meaning you can't always get an alcoholic drink, so it was lovely to be offered a drink in the evening. The location is great too. Highly recommended.

The most beautiful riad in the city center of Tangier with incredible views from its magical rooftop, along with 5-stars breakfasts and impeccable cleanness. But what I would like to highlight the most is the beyond-expectations attentions of Omar, the manager. Kind-hearted and always with a big smile, Omar is the living proof that Moroccans treat visitors like family. We went for a short trip to an exotic destination a bit worried about cultural shock and came back home with a friend.

I stayed at Dar Rif for 2 nights. It's a perfect stay as it's calm and quiet where I could relax myself after travelling for the whole day. Location is good as it's inside Medina, where I could go out for food / shopping easily. I stayed in a double room, which is clean and comfortable. The view from Terrace is such a breathtaking, where I could see the ocean from the rooftop! Staffs are super nice and friendly. They gave me quite a lot of advice about travel around Medina, Tanger and even other cities in Morocco. They were also very helpful to pick me up at the train station, carry my luggage to Dar Rif (otherwise I would get lost in Medina), and dropped me off at the train station on the last day. Many thanks to friendly Bachir and Rachid for lots of help and good advice.
