Founded in the late 16th century as a trade route link between northwest Europe and the Black Sea, and modeled on Italian trading cities of the period, Zamosc is an exquisite example of a Renaissance town, complete with its original layouts and fortifications. The old city center is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its colorful Town Hall and Market Square are just two of the many lovely attractions here. Located in far southeast Poland, Zamosc is just 40 miles from the Ukrainian border.

The Town Hall in the Old Town of Zamosc is the centerpiece. It has a beautiful staircase creating a regal and stately monument. A climb to the top of stairs is worth the view as you gaze down upon the Old Town below. It is a must see when in Zamosc!

This is beautiful Renaissance city.
The masterpiece - imaginary, invented by Polish magnate and hetman Jan Zamojski and designed by Italian architect Bernardo Morando.
The absolutely unique thing - the whole city - walls, defence system, streets, tenements, town hall, market place, temples - Catholic and Orthodox churches, Synagogue, Palace and Akademia was designed by one person !
I think there isn't similar city in the world.
Wherefore the city is homogenous ... there are only few baroque modifications.
First you should go to the Arsenal Muzeum (and see the movie) , then you have to see Cathedral, Main Square, go to Morandówka for the very good dinner, and in the afternoon, take a look at underground of the Nadszaniec and Town Hall.
For me is the awesome place, which you must see, during the visit in Poland - like Gdańsk, Kraków, Wieliczka.

Zamość Old Market Square is the main square located in the oldest part of Zamość town, which is located in Southeast part of Poland and it is included in Unesco World Heritage List as example of Renaissence town in Central Europe. It is a very beautiful place, where there are some restaurants and a beautiful town hall.

Founded in 1580 by Jan Zamoyski, the Hetman (Head of the Army) of the Polish-Lithuania Commonwealth, Zamosc Starowka is one of the most beautiful Old town Squares in Poland.
The very wealthy Jan Zamoyski contracted the Italian architect, Bernardo Morando to design a city based on the Renaissance style of Padua,Italy, and I have to say he did a brilliant job of it.
The most prominent building is the Ratusz (Town Hall) on the North side of the square which is adjoined by beautiful Armenian Tenements, classic arcaded houses, various restaurants, Souvenir shops and other shops where you can spend many hours browsing or just sitting around the square admiring the buildings or stroll around the side streets discovering all the many other delightful sights of this wonderful City.

A former fortification for Zamosc turned into an SS interrogation and holding centre for a variety of unfortunates. A really moving place and well worth a visit though few seem to these days. Worth a visit just to remind us of what the Poles suffered under both the Germans and Russians.

This was a trip I was invited to join...wouldn't normally go to a zoo....it was cold, so maybe that's why there were so few animals around...and April...so not quite the "season". Go in Summer if you must.

Located 1 minute away from the central square, this a MUST visit. Beautifully restored after the ravages of the 2nd World War, the building remains as a memorial to a life that used to be. The exhibit included some historical documentation of the Jewish community.

If in Zamosc make sure you visit this Cathedral. Extremely impressive Renaissance interior, which has one of the most fantastic silver tabernacles for the host that I have ever seen. The interior is fairly simple which focuses attention on the very ornate altarpieces.

Very interesting museum, a lot of interesting exhibits from different historical periods, multiple monitors with films. Visiting the entire facility may take several hours, but I recommend visiting this place. The only inconvenience was the early closure, at summer 5 pm (winter - 4 pm).
