About a week ago we rented a boat with Marea, and were accompanied by Stefano. He showed us around the beautiful Sardinian coast and shared really interesting facts, we felt we were in a great pair of safe hands and had an absolutely amazing day! This was definitely the highlight of our holidays in Sardinia (Which were amazing already generally speaking - what a beautiful island!). Thank you so much again and best wishes from Ireland and the Netherlands!

We had this beach recommended and it did not disappoint. There was something different to do every day. The water goes out waist deep for quite some way and our (just turned) 3 year old found this perfect for swimming. There are smooth granite rock Islands a short wade out from the beach which were perfect for a 3 year old to explore, she spent an entire morning here looking for crabs, 'opening a shop', eating a picnic etc. the sand is perfect sandcastle building sand and its also great for hunting small shells. There was another rock in the middle of the beach, just at the tide line which she clambered over and slid into the water and sang at the top of her lungs from (apologies to any people who had to listen, I think the sound of the sea mostly drowned out the noise!). A mix of rented sun loungers and take your own towel space, I would definitely recommend and will definitely return.

Fuorirotta Charter

An excellent day trip. Do not be lured by the cheaper similar alternatives which looked very crowded and did not include food. Even the self hire, which we briefly considered seemed to go along the same stretch of coast and use the same Beaches as the alternatives were not that different. The trip catered for a limited number ,30 and there was loads of room with the sun deck, Seating forward and aft and of course inside where we sat for lunch. The trip cost 60 euros and included nibbles mid morning with wine, an excellent three course lunch with wine and coffee and afternoon iced tea and bun. The staff spoke English and were charming and helpful. Very well organised to miss crowds and included three beach stops.. A trip to the Grotto of the Fig was available for those who wanted it. Others just had more time on the beach
Should not be missed if a boat day trip is on your itinerary, and if not , consider this one!,

We are a family of 4 staying in a local hotel in Arbatax. We were picked up and dropped off by minibus from our hotel and spent a lovely day motoring up the coast on Sergio's characterful and comfortable boat. We visited several really beautiful coves, the boat was able to either drop us directly onto the beach or we could swim from the boat in the clear waters. There were about 16 passengers, plenty of room and we were given a really very good lunch of seafood pasta followed by grilled fish all freshly cooked on the boat. There were salads, apperitifs, snacks of melon, cakes, unlimited cold water, prosecco and all included it cost 40 eu a person. Brilliant value. Sergio the skipper was witty, well organised and well informed (the "lectures" were in Italian and English) about the area. There was an optional visit to a grotto (8 eu adult, 4 eu child) which we enjoyed and the whole day was made very easy and was a great success. Highly recommended.

Reviewed By Beentheredunthat - London

This is a great sight to visit as you get to see 4 insights to ancient Sardinian life.
You can see a well excavated Nuraghe, a Domus de Janus tomb, a Tombe de Gigante and an ancient flour production centre.
The guides are very willing to show you around, but you get the best from this by pre-booking, especially if you need an english speaking guide, and by asking sensible questions.

We took a boat tour with Nuovo Consorzio Marittimo Ogliastra and were thoroughly impressed. For 42 euros we were treated to the best way to see the various coves, Beaches and caves that the eastern coast has to offer. We were out for over 8 hours and visited two of the nicest Beaches on the coast that are only really accessible by sea, Cala Luna and Cala Mariolu. We also saw the stunning caves at Grotta del Fico and Grotta del bue Marino, both of which cost an extra 8 euros per person each. They are two very different caves with stunning stalagmites and stalactites and guided tour were offered in various languages either by a live guide or audioguide. The boats were very spacious and had good outdoor and indoor Seating and had nice toilets on board. Information was provided in English as well as Italian. This is a first class day out from either Arbatax or Santa Maria Naveresse.

Il Golfetto / Cala Ginepro

Reviewed By chocdikrab - Frankfurt, Germany

we went to il golfetto and cala ginepro one hot and sunny early afternoon and at first we visited cala ginepro. the small bay consists of smaller and bigger stones...between middlehigh cliffs. no one was around and we had this place for us alone....also no sandy spaces were available and maybe this was the reason for the missing guests, what is clear in relation to all the beautiful Beaches in the near surrounding. cala ginepro is nice for snorkelers, but not for beachvisitors.
then we went to if golfetto which is nearby. both of the places are easy reachable by car, parking places are located....the full day parcing fee was 3 euro ...a nice price!
il golfetto consists of a few beachsections...no one longer than 100 meters...the beachsections have powdery and white sand and slope gently to the sea. perfect for families with small children. big flat granite stones are spreaded in the water, which offers every shade of green and blue. at the southend flat cliffs are located and snorkeling should be interessting at this area.
near the parking place a kiosk is located to buy some cold drinks, about the prices we cannot give any information.
we can recomment il golfetto very nuch. it was a perfect afternoon in the sinking sun with a lot of splashing fun. the atmosphere on the beach was quiet and relaxed. a perfect place to let dangle the soul. when we are in this area next time we will be there again.
the vegetation in the back of the beach is lush with maccia, bushes and some bigger trees, nevertheless parasols and a good sunprotection should be in the beachluggage.

We'd targeted Arbatax for some reason, as an overnight break during our journey from the Corsica ferry at Santa Teresa, to Cagliari. Perhaps as it was recommended in one travel guide.
In truth, the town was overtly industrial, with a little local charm around the small boat harbor and this red rock beach.
So this attraction gets 4 stars, and is a 'must see' if you do venture to Arbatax. I agree with other reviews about the unfinished/neglected look around the rocks, but it does seem that worthwhile investment and development is happening (perhaps too slowly) and in a year or two, it might be a lot better.
The most amazing thing is the vivid streaks of black and cream rocks within the red.

Guides and services for hiking in Baunei and the whole Sardinia: hikes to the famous Cala Goloritze or Cala Mariolu, Selvaggio Blu, shuttle service for hikers, environmental education for your kids...nature in Sardinia, at best!

Reviewed By ittybitatunc - New York City, New York

I was looking for a day hike on the Selvaggio Blu, one of the best hiking trails in the world (if not the entire world).
I wanted a tough climb down to the beautiful beach of Cala Biriola. I had the best time. My guide was a well educated woman who has studied many languages and is originally from Sardinia. We spoke about Sardinia being in one of the world's "Blue Zones" where the people live into their 100s. She and I emailed before the hike and I was originially going to be the only one on the guide - making it a little bit more expensive. She was able to find another traveller to join me, also a woman, and we had the best time the 3 of us. At the end of our hike, we had a few hours at the beach and then we took a boat from Explorando Supramonte back to Santa Maria Navarresse.
I will be back in Sardinia this summer and will be sure to do some hikes with them.
