Corsica Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Corsica

December 11, 2017 Marianna Hollaway

Corsica is a laid-back French island, with a breezy vibe that’s part European weekend and part tropical honeymoon. The port city of Bastia flings its arms wide open to weary travelers disembarking from a long ferry trip. For a truly charming Corsican experience, catch a train through the mountains to the beach, passing by rustic villages and grazing cows along the way. Take a few hours or even a few weeks to explore the island’s famous walking trails, including the varsity-level GR 20.

We had dinner here on our last night in Corsica. When we placed our order, the server told us that they had a local power outage, but hoped that the power would come on soon. Odd, but we went with it. The power came on as we finished our salads and got our entrees with a small delay. The power then went on and off at least 5 times. We could see the lights in Olmeto up on the hill go on and off as well. It became almost a game.
The food was very good and the service was consistent. Aside from the power issues, the meal went off perfectly. At the end of the desserts, to make up for the power issues, they offered a post dinner drink. Nice touch.
I have to hand it to them that they kept it all moving despite the power difficulties.

We went there twice this Summer (after being there twice last Summer). The food is exquisite, the ambience very pleasant without being pretentious and annoying. The service was first-rate. We came there half-an-hour before our (rather late) reservation time and a super nice waitress rearranged the tables and let us sit on the sidewalk (not necessarily where the tables are normally arranged). But it was a perfect location, made the dinner even more pleasurable, and showed their flexibility. I had le loup de mer (the first time) and lamb the second and both were A+. Corsican cheese selection not to be missed.

This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who is a local and it also is ranked #1 for restaurants in Porticcio, so we decided to give it a shot. Maybe it is because we had high expectations, but we were not impressed. While the decor inside is fairly nice, the biggest issue is that it is located right on the main highway in what can only be described as a strip mall, so you hear cars passing by throughout your meal and it really feels like you are sitting next to a parking lot if you are outside. The wine menu is very limited and there is nothing high-end to choose from, the bread does not seem to be homemade/fresh (little pre-made dinner rolls), and the food is just ok. Fish soup was tasty, but our entrees seemed to be more about presentation than quality ingredients or preparation. The only upside, which is a big upside, is the owner is very friendly and the service was very attentive. However, I have no idea how this place made it to #1 on the Trip Advisor list.

Really cozy and nice place with down-to-earth food, delicately served by the very friendly staff. We had a Sandwich and a goat cheese Sandwich and home-made ice for dessert. The place is located with a great view over the Mountains and you sit in a small terrasse away from the street.

From Le Patron hanging out in the dining room, to Madame who opened with "Will you have an apero? No, ok, then will it be Rose or Red?" this is the Full Corsican experience. Fabulous plate of local charcuterie and homemade pate to start then Cannelloni stuffed with a local cheese for main to the homemade Raspberry Tiramisu for desert the food was absolutely spot on, and all clearly done in house.
Flacon of Rose, lunch above for 2, 3 plates of pasta for fussy kids (no problem at all) and coffee and change out of 50 Euros.
It's a bit off the beaten track, (and Trip advisor doesn't place it on the map due to the lack of accent in their location) but if you are passing you must stop!
And don't miss the little shop underneath where you can buy your Lonzo/.Pate etc to go!!!

The first thing to say is that this resteraunt is 15km from Saint Florent on the D81and NOT where tripadvisor location takes you!Secondly - this is a small roadside establishment and as such does not take cards.
The menu is simple but delicious - Chicken skewers, lamb cutlets, entrecote steak or cuts of boar cooked on an open wood fire(for this reason it is closed if the wind is high). Huge rustic (home grown) salads also available. The location is beautiful and the owner (chef) and waitress charming - both going out of their way to make us welcome and the food plentiful - 4 meaty lamb cutlets with proper thick cut chips with salad for me - the others had chicken and steak. Total bill for all 3 plus wine was 70 euros (again a reminder to take cash)
This is well recommended and worth the trip.

An excellent restaurant, hidden away in the foothills near Bastia. The concept is excellent quality farm food (the place is in fact a farm), using only local produce. Note that there is only a fixed menu available, and the portions are what I would call extremely generous ;-). Very friendly service as well.

U Tavanincu

"U TAVANINCU" is a traditionnal restaurant in a little village near from Bastia. You just have to climb the mountain's begining to take advantage of the view all in enjoying savour of fresh product and homemade ready-cooked dish. With the view, you're totally immersed in the middle of balance of nature between the mediteraneen sea and the Corsica's greenery. It would be better to reserve.

We found this restaurant while staying in nearby talasani - it is high in the Mountains with a Terrace affording spectacular views of the distant coastline and the isle of monte christo.
Food - well this was as good as the view. We had a shared octopus salad starter which was well presented and sufficient for two. It was tasty and well presented. Our mains were a local veal steak with a herb butter, it was first class and cooked well. The flavours were delicate and subtle. The other main was a homemade ribbon pasta with local charcuterie called lonzo and corpse mushrooms. Again very good.
Overall the food was as good as the view and if visiting this beautiful area make sure you visit this restaurant. Our only regret was that we were flying home and didn't get the chance to try another meal!
